Nick Walker was such a better from a visual standpoint. I was in the second row and making eye contact with that menacing gaze was just nuts. I didn’t listen to the soundtrack before seeing it live. Hearing Lin as Hamilton was startling. The Hamilton I saw was an understudy and had a lower and very smooth voice.
I mean I’m sure it’s bc of not seeing it live, did you see both? I thought Burr particularly was a lot worse. Washington & King George not as good.
He's incredible but the one that stands out the most to me in Goldsberry. She's just next level talented.
Lafayette Jefferson Mulligan Laurens Washington King George Burr Hamilton Angelica Eliza the rest. Don’t @ me.
Yes plus he’s kind of a whiny bitch and he became pretty unlikable with the angelica and Reynolds business.
Not even sure if nasaly is the correct word, but he's the weakest of the main singers Eliza is the best....soooo good
Just finished. I saw it live on tour in ft Lauderdale before listening to the soundtrack. Just some other observations as to really what isn't captured just by listening. Groff's performance is can't miss. Hilarious and perfect expressions. Ramos as Laurens just delivers way more fun on stage. The director did great focusing on Diggs in the right ways. I wish I could see more wide shots as an option to see more of the complete stage at times. I didn't realize it was going to be a performance with an audience. I assumed it was a closed performance specifically for the taping. So for that night were there obstructed views from cameras?? I'm not familiar with the actual filming of this.
The physical comedy of Mr. Hercules Mulligan is great. He also nails the subtleties of Madison. France.
And what's the deal with the ending? I'd seem a few things about it over the years but never read any of it bc I didn't want to ruin it. What was she screaming at?
Amazing. I’m a Leslie fanboy boy but Soo stole the live show for me (and my wife). Her looks and delivery we next level compared to what we got in Chicago and my expectations. Goldsberry was as amazing as I expected. It lived up to the hype and then some for me. I’m setting the over / under and watching it 20 times before the end of the year. Two disappointments / subtleties that they left off. I’m going to say on purpose because they wanted to keep it special to the live performance maybe? 1) Groff’s scepter hand work when he pulls it out. His slow motion placing and hand tapping while he’s delivering is amazing and didn’t make the movie because they zoomed in. His face work is key, but that moment they needed to show the body. 2) When Madison comes on and says “I wrote it” Jefferson and Adams are facing away, they act surprised like it is a mistake in the musical. They cut that. Some small camera work complaints as well but overall we’re so lucky to be alive right now and get to watch that and 1.5 years early.
I had only listened to the soundtrack version and Leslie Odom's talking voice is much different than the album version, was a bit jarring but overall the whole experience was great to watch
Joseph Morales was our Ham at the Tampa show we saw, and he was very good. It’s hard to knock Lin, but it’s obvious that he’s one of the weaker singers among the original cast. Our seats in Tampa were pretty far back, so it was nice to see facial expressions and non verbal cues that we couldn’t see live. Agreed that some of the shots in the movie should have been wider, but it was still incredible.
It was amazing. Pretty crazy something that was built up for so long now was actually able to exceed what I expected. Now I need to see it live.
First time seeing it and it was just jaw dropping. Like an explosion of talent on that stage. Lived up to all the hype. Will be watching again soon.
I echo this never listened to any of it and came away thinking it easily met all the hype I was weary of how bad the film production would be bc that almost has never translated well but this crew did an amazing job of making you feel like you were there
Has anyone released streaming numbers yet? Gotta think the Disney pr team jumps on that. Also a lot of people have theorized that streaming would undercut sales or whatever. If you released the 4k DVD right now I'd pay something like $75 without blinking even with the Disney+ access. Only makes me want it more...not less. I'd also love the feature of skipping to particular songs
Absolutely incredible. Been listening to the soundtrack for years now and it still surpassed my expectations.
I’ve been going to broadway shows since I was old enough since my dad was in several, and I’m pretty partial to some of the ones he was in but this was one of the best I’ve seen. Definitely met the hype. Agreed on Lins voice not matching the rest of the cast, the two main schuyler sisters were fantastic, I thought Washington was great too
We watched it tonight and my wife said she wishes Lin cast someone else. The person who played him in Tampa was a much better singer. I thought it was awesome though. Very impressed with the movie quality.
So, I finally watched the whole thing today. By way of background, my son is a HUGE fan of Hamilton. His favorite figure from the War of Independence is Lafayette. Mine too, after Washington. Personally, I’ve never been a Hamilton fan. He’s been on my radar for decades and always came across as an asshole whom no one liked ( I’m not sure that Washington actually liked him....although he certainly respected him). As far as the Disney+ film... Holy Shit! The first half was a total upper. The second half was ... not. And I describe it that way so as to not spoiler the thing.
Have seen it 3X live and obviously listened to the soundtrack a million times, as others have said, so nice to see the performance and changes to the songs by the actors vs pure studio singing. I knew going in Lin Manuel was the weakest singer in the cast, but his value is obviously as owner/GM. We got to see Cervantes in Chicago so I agree it would have been cool to see more talent in that role with the rest of the all star cast. Daveed fantastic, as was Odom. Schuyler sisters were all great, Phillipa is just effortlessly singing, and Angelica is such a boss. also Groff was incredible as expected.
My wife “That’s the guy from Mind Hunter?” With that voice Broadway is where he should be all the time.
Having seen it in Chicago, I think the male ensemble from that cast were better overall (especially Cervantes as mentioned previously). Only clear edge to original cast on that end is Daveed (yes, including Odom, our Burr was ridiculously good). I much prefer the female NYC side however, they are all awesome.
I thought along with Cervantes in Chicago that Karen Olivia as Angelica was incredible. I don’t know that I’d say she’s better than Goldsberry (because she’s that amazing) but she was the person I was most blown away by. Not shocking; she’s a Tony winner and she was in “In The Heights”
Oh yeah both Angelica’s were great, slight edge to NYC. I thought Eliza was big advantage to NYC though
I’d agree with that. I was more impressed with Peggy/Maria than Eliza. Don’t remember who it was but she had some nice credits to her name as well. Did you have Joshua Henry as your Burr? He was already gone for the national tour when I went
Wat? You’d pay $75 for something you can already watch with a subscription you’re already paying for?
Satisfied is something I can't get out of my head. I mean to have the balls to attempt to play with time in a live play and then have it perfectly choreographed while one of the most impressive singers I've seen just crushes it is just insane.
