Why not keep Stokes over Maybin? You’re rebuilding not trying to make the playoffs. Plus maybin needed a job, who knows maybe his agent even contacted Avila bc nobody else wanted him
Maybin sucks bro. Avila has no idea what he’s doing. Strokes most likely sucks too, hit .230 in AAA last year, but he’s young, and at least has more potential than Maybin.
If they're willing to drop Stokes over even bringing him to a 60 person camp, I think that says all that's necessary about what they make of his prospects. I don't think Maybin is the guy who bumped Stokes. Seems more likely he got bumped for Bonifacio (minor league deal), Hill (also on 40 man) and Demeritte (who they either think more highly of or don't want to be embarrassed by dumping him a year after trading for him).
Going to assume the rest of the league is going to be unhappy with that Tork contract. There goes the precedent of a #1 pick never getting slot. Happy for him and glad Ilitch paid him, though. There was no reason not to, and they still went over slot to sign at least 3 guys.
I know some people liked Martin but a lot of scouts and experts are calling Tork the best hitting prospect in quite a long time so I have no issue with him getting a nice signing bonus. Baseball America already has him a top 15 prospect so they think highly of him as well. Im excited about him and Greene. I was down on the Tigers rebuild just a few months ago due to lack of hitters in minor leagues, but this has given me much more optimism
Jared Kelley got $3M to sign with the White Sox. Cole Wilcox got $3.3M to sign with San Diego. Will be interesting to follow their careers compared to Dingler in Detroit. I'd personally rather have Dingler for slot than either of those pitchers for $1.5M-ish over slot.
Yes, but we could have done some other stuff to fit them in. We could have saved some money with Tork if we really wanted/needed to. We could have saved some money with a really low bonus guy or two later in the draft. I'm happy we did it this way, though, even if we maybe could have taken a bigger swing in round 3.
still a substantial step below other teams, but they’re all basically loto tickets. Less than. 5% of these guys will make the show.
Most teams are only dumping one minor league team. We're dumping two, and we've made zero minor league releases to this point in 2020 that I'm aware of (perhaps I'm way off on that, though). We don't need numbers to fill minor league rosters.
Everyone is dropping one short season team, I believe, which for us would be Connecticut. We've also had multiple rookie ball teams in the GCL recently, and I'm assuming that will no longer be the case. We also have multiple teams in the DR, for that matter, and I'm not sure if we'll continue to do that.
I imagine the Orioles will have toughest schedule in the league. I think we are fighting for the 2nd pick this year.
I would expect Manfred to come up with some kind of special case draft order over just going off 2020 record if that's what you're going for.
I’m not following...why wouldn’t he use this year’s record if they play 60 games?even if he does some weighted average thing, we’d be in good shape.
Probably right. I just think Manfred is going to get some anger from owners if the top of the draft order is the same again, and I think he'll have the authority to change it without PA approval. I'm kind of expecting some kind of lottery system for a year, but that might just be my pessimism.
Fuck them not playing exclusively during the day. Don’t they know I’m working from home indefinitely?
Considering the only money rolling in is coming from the regional sports contracts (and playoff FOX/Turner deals), there was no chance of a bunch of afternoon games.
Avila's going to make sure all the prospects get it so he has a reason to hold them back and juice the prospect rankings next winter.
The only way we wins games is due to prospects playing IMO so if that’s the case of them being held back then I’m all for it to get the first pick
