It’s just a decent card. Berchelt in the main is fun as hell but he’s in against a nobody. Decent co-main as well. I’m gonna watch for however long I can stay up for.

ESPN, 11:00 pm ET, Miguel Berchelt vs Eleazar Valenzuela, Omar Aguilar vs Dante Jardon.

Another Zanfer card from TV Azteca studios in Mexico City, another main event mismatch between a world champion and a club fighter. Berchelt is one of the best fighters in the sport, the top guy at 130, and this is just a 135-pound stay-busy for him. Plans are in motion for him to face Oscar Valdez later this year. Aguilar-Jardon is a better matchup, a 21-year-old prospect against a 32-year-old veteran who never quite broke through and was found out a couple divisions ago as far as potentially being a top fighter. But a step up for Aguilar on paper.

The most interesting fight on the card is junior welterweight prospect Omar Aguilar putting his undefeated record on the line against Dante “Crazy” Jardon, a battle-tested veteran at age 32 who is really a natural 130-pounder and unsuccessfully challenged for a world title in that division back in 2013.

This is a damn good card.

    Thursday, July 2
ESPN, 8:00 pm ET, Jose Pedraza vs Mikkel LesPierre, Adan Gonzales vs Robeisy Ramirez II.

Pedraza-LesPierre is rescheduled from a couple weeks ago, after LesPierre’s manager tested positive for COVID-19. But things are good to go now (for now). More interesting, really, is Ramirez going for revenge against Gonzales, the battler who upset the two-time Olympic gold medalist in Ramirez’s pro debut last year.

Pedraza, 31, is a former titleholder at 130 and 135 looking to chase another belt at 140. His run at the new weight got off to a bad start last September, dropping a decision to Jose Zepeda, but he’s determined to make this work. LesPierre has one notable fight in his career, a title challenge against Maurice Hooker last year that ended in a shutout loss. Tonight’s fight is a catchweight bout technically at welterweight.

The co-feature is a lightweight bout between unbeaten Albert Bell, really a 130 prospect but it’s another catchweight, and Mark Bernaldez, and we also have a notable rematch between two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez and the man who beat him in his pro debut last year, Adan Gonzales, plus a one-week turnaround from heavyweight project Kingsley Ibeh and junior welterweight prospect Elvis Rodriguez also in action.

    Here's what we've got tonight.

ESPN, 8:00 pm ET, Jose Zepeda vs Kendo Castaneda, Andy Vences vs Luis Alberto Lopez.
Zepeda, a top 10 guy at 140, was supposed to fight Ivan Baranchyk on this night, but Baranchyk has a reportedly minor injury; there was initially hope that it would be rescheduled for later in July, but instead Zepeda is keeping this date and facing Kendo Castaneda, a Texas fighter who has headlined some Roy Jones-promoted shows on UFC Fight Pass. He lost on Telemundo to Yomar Alamo earlier this year. He’s not a bad fighter or anything, but will rightly be a big underdog. As a short notice opponent, he’s a decent get.

Zepeda, 31, is a southpaw who lost a very competitive title fight with Jose Ramirez in Feb. 2019, and returned last September to score a strong win over Jose Pedraza.
    • Jose Zepeda (31-2, 25 KO) vs Kendo Castaneda (17-1, 8 KO), catchweight (144), 10 rounds
    • Andy Vences (23-1-1, 12 KO) vs Luis Alberto Lopez (20-2, 11 KO), junior lightweights, 10 rounds
    • Andres Cortes (12-0, 7 KO) vs Alejandro Salinas (10-3, 9 KO), lightweights, 8 rounds
    • Genaro Gamez (9-1, 6 KO) vs Reymond Yanong (11-5-1, 9 KO), welterweights, 8 rounds
    • Eric Puente (2-0, 0 KO) vs Diego Elizondo (2-1-2, 0 KO), lightweights, 4 rounds
    • Gabriel Muratalla (3-0, 3 KO) vs Sergio Lopez (4-5-3, 0 KO), bantamweights, 4 rounds
