I use the vivioactive 4. Good for running. But not that great for hiking. I’ll be getting a new one in the next year probably
was gonna put off my run until 9:30 or 10 AM. Looked at my phone and it was gonna be near 90 at 10 AM. So I ran at 6:30 AM. Not a great morning runner, but this heat this week in Denver is forcing my hand.
no imo it’s as close to flying or being in heaven on earth as I have ever felt. One my favorite things to do.
I’m in IL. We’re just stuck in a heat wave. I saw that Sunday our high was projected at 79 and thought I might need a sweatshirt that evening.
not to be that person, but global warming is probably going to make summer running a bitch in most states going forward. But yes, it appears certain areas of the country are in a heat wave right now.
Anecdotal I know but when I moved into my current place about 10 years ago I mentioned it didn’t have AC. It wouldn’t get hot enough for it to bother me. Over the last couple years it’s gotten hotter and hotter to the point that it’s almost impossible to run during the day.
Just ran 13.4 miles over the weekend training for my spartan beast later in the year. I’ve never gone that far before. Whenever I do anything over 5 miles I get blisters on the tips of my toes. Do you think that’s she related to being to small and tight?
I have a different shoes I wear depending on the training/distance I’m doing. I only get the blisters with the brooks so I’m assuming it’s those. Just not sure if it’s the size or that type of shoe.
Thinking of ordering some Hoka Clifton 6s. Is the comfort really worth the godawful design and aesthetic?
Seriously. He has that brand, no idea on the actual shoe type itself. He's used them for about five years and run in 5+ marathons and a bunch of half marathons.
Good to know. They aren’t the best looking shoe and look Dad(ish), so I thought you were being funny.
Ran at lunch Wednesday then after dinner my knee started hurting pretty bad. Wednesday I BioFreeze'd and iced last night, it doesn't feel perfect but nothing like Wednesday night. Plan to ice tonight, now the debate is run tomorrow or no? I obviously super want to and fighting not running today.
As someone who has had chronic knee pain that has hampered my running for years, I recently started taking collagen peptides and it’s helped my joints tremendously.
I've been fortunate to avoid pain, but I've definitely noticed increasing stiffness in one of my knees recently. I've decided it's just a matter of lacking strength (at least I'm going to tell myself that until it becomes an actual pain situation.) As a result I'm trying to integrate this into my habits: https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20841814/6-exercises-that-keep-your-knees-healthy/
well I'd already been wanting to try this https://www.vikingwaffles.com/collections/shop/products/viking-butter-with-collagen
Damn those waffles look delicious. I use collagen powder and add it to my gallon of water before bed. It’s completely odorless and tasteless so I just consume it with my water intake.
Did 4 miles during lunch today and I wanted to die afterwards. The heat, the humidity, the hills. Fuck HHH.
Not sure I can keep running 6 days a week in this heat :/ think it’s time to start making the move to cycle’n 3 times a week
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again despite how unpopular it may be. I can’t imagine that running 6 times per week is good for your body. If there’s science to refute what I’m saying, I’d love to see it.
Got 5 miles in today. First run in a month or so where it didn’t feel like I was trying to breath in soup. I noticed I’m sitting more and for longer peiods now that we work from home. My hips are super duper tight - I need to spend more time rolling and stretching.
Been really pleased with what straight leg lateral and bent knee lateral swings have been doing for opening my hips before going out.
Pace PR (8:22 over 4mi) today, distance PR (6mi in 57:50) on Tues and weekly total of 16.75. I never thought I’d enjoy running but since April, i haven’t been able to stop. For the first couple weeks, i was going daily about 3.5mi, but after reading this thread and listening to my body, backed it off to every other day, with some short back-to-backs from time to time. Usually i do right at 4mi eod. Like many others, I’ve turned my commute/morning work prep into my jog and, besides the physical benefits, it’s really helped with my mental well being. Such an amazing stress relief. I’ve only been doing this since mid April and really hope i can keep it up. So far, at 39, my body feels surprisingly good and it seems to get easier each run. Tl:dr-Old man started jogging and is pleased with his progress.
Did ten today after doing 14 last week for my long run. Humidity was “only” 80% today whereas last week it was 90%+. Amazing how big of a difference that makes. Got 16 and 17 over the next two weekends. Hoping for a random cool front dropping it around 65-70. If not I might get up and start before the sun rises.
I had never been a morning person but basically forced it upon myself at the end of May because I wanted to train much better than I ever have before. Usually up at 5:45 on Saturday morning but I am guessing I’ll be running by that time moving forward, rather than by 7:00, which is what I’ve done most weekends as of late.
I’m looking forward to fall runs after the amount I’ve run this summer. I’m prepared for it to feel much, much easier as it cools down.
Been away from the thread for awhile... just bought the Clifton 6’s from rei on sale. I’m pretty pumped to try them out. Running about 30-35 a week pace bw 6:40-7:30. Heat in Atlanta has been brutal and training for nothing everything is canceled. Hoping the Atl thanksgiving races will be great
Ran in my Clifton 6’s yesterday (7miles) - they were fantastic, plenty of room in the toe box and they seem to correct any sort of pronation for me. My left calf is a little sore this morning but other wise they felt great. Rei has them for 100$ which was worth the try for me. outside of that has anyone in here tried the Wim Hof breathing exercises? Im going to give a shot because a guy I run with has raced about, it has really helped him running in the heat
I ended up going with the Hoka Rincons. They should be here tomorrow, and I’m excited to see how they feel.
I’ve asked this in other threads, so figured I would ask here too. Do you all know of a good pull-up progression training program? I suck at pull-ups.
