pray for me. we have had our eskie puppy for 3 nights and he goes fucking insane in his crate. he has been screaming/howling/crying/whining/biting the metal for the last half hour after i got up to let him out. i keep waiting for even a moment of quiet to praise him, but he has been full on psycho mode all 3 days and nights. we started giving him his meals in the open crate this morning and he would go in and eat without problem, but he loses his mind as soon as you close the door. we have a fitted cover for the crate but he doesnt seem to care.

i'm thinking of trying one of those soothing heartbeat sound solutions. it has to be hard to be away from his mom/litter mates. he goes nuts whether he can see us or not, so not sure how helpful putting the crate in our bedroom would be. we're just reminding ourselves he's only an 8 week old pup and will get better. relying on earplugs tonight and reading through this thread to feel everyone else's pain.

Im not the person to ask. My husky I slept on the ground (until he fell asleep) next to his crate one night and he was fine after that. He had no issues with his crate. He slept there until we trusted him to have free reign at night. He now sleeps wherever he wants throughout the house and causes no issues.

But when we got our lab mix, man she was fucking fiesty as a puppy. She climbed out of dog barriers in our kitchen when we left her alone, barked and cried non stop in a crate. I even tried the laying next to her method until she fell asleep but that didn't work. Wife left town for work like her 3rd night in the house and I was starting a trial the next day and just caved and let her sleep in the bed because I needed sleep. 4 years later that girl still sleeps in our bed. She runs our household haha, although she isn't crazy anymore at least (except when someone walks in front of our house, see post last page).

Yes I would try one of the toys with the heartbeat, the brand we use is Snuggle Puppy, it has worked wonders for cats and dogs alike. If that doesn't work, try a white noise machine, we've had success with that as well.

Any time we have a foster, I sleep in our foster room (my theater room) with them for at least a few days to help them get comfortable and allow the family to sleep, most of them are fine as long as someone is there, but yeah if you are trying to get some distance it can be pretty rough.

Only suggestion I have would be to immediately try and distract the dog and when she stops barking reward her with a treat. One of my labs barks like that, which wasn't horrible in a house but now that I'm back in an apartment I had to train her a little better. Whenever she'd see something and start to get wound up I'd immediately make her come to me and pet her until she calmed down. Now she will just growl or whine once or twice and run over to me instead of barking like a psycho.

I think we will try something like this. I have the heartbeat sound from youtube playing right now as he is in his pen next to me and he is going in and out of sleep (because he didnt sleep all night) and quiet play. I'm fine with some sleepless nights, he is essentially a newborn after all, but we get freaked out that he is hurting himself with how nuts he is in the crate biting at the bars.

Looking at about $4500 for Sabo's surgery. Getting a CT scan now but pretty sure it'll be done next week.

Shitty but I suppose it could always be worse.

Nah and I’ve never really thought about it tbh. Though I’m sure it’d obviously save me some money right now.

Oh well. The scan showed no issues with the lymph nodes and it was all isolated to a very small area along the upper gum line. So overall it was pretty good news.

My boxer of 12.5 years had a little cough, took him to the vet followed by internal specialist vet (oncologist). He has 3 tumors in his right lung. One 6 CM diameter. They haven’t spread outside the lung and his organ function tests were great. I don’t know what to do. Sorry it’s not exactly a question, I’m a bit of a mess.

Just hug him as much as you can. Do what you guys like to do together and hope for the best...maybe a little steak once in a while.

He might be fine for a while. Enjoy to the fullest, dogs live in the present. Make sure you do the same when you are with him.

Thank you. We found out Friday there were tumors. Monday we did the oncologist appointment. His functionality is at an average to high level. He’s been my silver lining/rock through all the fucked up hands I was dealt the past 8 years. Sorry I’m just bitching and ranting now.

I’m afraid Lily may have cancer. She had a bump I noticed a few months ago and I took her to the vet. They said to keep an eye on it and if it grows to bring her back. It’s grown a bit. Her hair is also falling out in huge clumps

My puppy was like this. The solution that worked for me was a strict routine of him in his crate at 8:00 which was in my room right next to my bed. I covered the 3 sides of his crate with a blanket that didn’t face me or my bed. Then, I got a pillow, blanket, and a book and laid down next to him until he fell asleep. When he would whine, I would pet him through the cage and comfort him telling him it was okay and he was a good boy. Usually did this for 3 or so hours every night and within a week he was fine. Only time whines is when he hears me waking up in the AM and wants his breakfast.

One of the rescues that we foster with just picked up this fighter. His name is Oxford and he has “Wobbler’s Syndrome” (in layman’s terms, he’s got spinal cord impingement.) It’s pretty uncommon, but even more so outside of larger breeds.

    EA42C6E4-E539-4C7B-96EB-48C9CB821FD7.jpeg

Check out his video below (I don’t have a Facebook account, so not sure if this link will work or if there’s a better way to link it.) **I suppose I should warn you that the video is really tough to watch**

I’m in a unique situation to interface with veterinarians and Orthopaedic surgeons to get this guy a decompression surgery. There are obviously costs, even with the physicians doing their part for free, so please use the donate link on his Facebook page and toss in $20.

We actually had a golden with something very similar a couple years back, it's hard to watch for sure. Glad there is surgery possible for yours. We ended up working with a Golden rescue and got ours the best therapy available, all that, ended up being terminal for her but really hoping it's different for Oxford.

the dog compromised with us. we moved the crate into our bedroom at night so he can still see my wife, and in return he stopped being an asshole. he's pretty much slept quietly the past few nights. as soon as he decided to stop fighting it, he realized he kind of loves the crate. we move it around the house throughout the course of the day and he willingly goes in to take a nap on his own. its crazy the progress that is made the first week as he learns the house rules and we learn more about his personality.
