Brother in law picked up a WLW from the vault and my MWND came in the mail last week so we got together for a tasting. His dad contributed the 10 year ORVW. Not a bad night.
It’s actually a 2018 (125.7 proof vs 128 proof on the 2019 release). Was bought through the ABC vault. I forget exactly what he paid for it but believe you get everything at (or close to) MSRP. Somebody with vault access can check me on the exact details of how that program works.
I know the Vault well :) I was asking if you liked that the best? ive tasted the 18 WLW and did not like it very much, actually.
Ah, apologies... It was my favorite of the three but the ORVW was a really close second. The WLW had bolder flavors upfront but not as long a finish as the ORVW. We had just opened the bottle so will have to report back when it has had some time to mellow out. I also may have been subconsciously biased because I had had the other two before so wasn’t as new of an experience for me.
My Michigan peeps. Any good recs for liquor stores to check out in Ann Arbor or the Detroit and metro area?
Just did a full review of this one. Damn, it is really good. I’m not typically a big rye guy, but this is one of those that could easily pass as a high-rye bourbon. Super complex, really smooth for its proof, definitely my favorite new rye of the year so far.
Plus they mixed in 13yr Canadian rye, Tennessee rye and even a little from Poland. I don’t know how long they’ll continue to be able to get their hands on quality whiskey, but Joe is an absolute master at blending.
Smoke Wagon? What a shitty name for a bourbon, I said. Distilled in Nevada? Getouttahere, I said. Gotta be some local sheisters trying to cash in on the bourbon craze, I said. I’m not even going to try that shit, I said. - - - user xec living in Vegas 2017. Dammit I wish I could try Smoke Wagon, I say. - - - user xec living near Salt Lake City, 2020.
I was in Vegas in February and was offered Smoke Wagon in this liquor store I went to. I’d never heard of it so I figured they were just trying to push some local crap on me
Need help from the thread. Been a while since I’ve bought a bottle. Here is the list from my local shop...pick me out something in the sub $150 category. I will reward you with a like, unlike the post, and then re-like it. https://www.misterwrightfinewines.c...ory=40,37,38,98,109,170&type=l&s1=s3806249013
Harsh but fair Good news I spend a lot of money at Astor on wine...why not bourbon. Appreciate your help https://www.astorwines.com/SpiritsS...ed&searchtype=Contains&term=&cat=2&style=2_32
i think they have cheaper prices in store than online so suggest you go in person. focus on their store picks.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for $65 and a Padron Anniversario for $8, put the remaining cash in your pocket.
