I don't listen to music while running but if I did I would probably rely on lots of Protomartyr, Nots, Preoccupations, Ex Hex, Oh Sees, Sheer Mag, Bully, Parquet Courts, Omni, The Courtneys, Pile, Institute, White Reaper, etc.

some recent Parquet Courts stuff might not fit the bill but most of their stuff would

Whoa. Country Westerns is awesome

I'm not a big country fan so wasn't sure if I would like based on the name. Reminds me a little bit of the vibe from the Ryan Adams 1989 album

And basketball games or really crowded football games. There's not enough being done to educate young people about the dangers of hearing loss or inner ear disorders IMO. Especially as everyone is seemingly wearing Air Pods all the time

I never know what to expect from various forms of cottons. Like does 100% ringspun cotton shrink? Going back 15-20 years or so I've purchased a number of medium shirts that ended up shrinking and became unwearable and so many larges that didn't shrink like I had expected and also became unwearable. Love those tri-blends as a result, because they're soft as shit and I know a medium is what I actually wear

bought a shirt. Also went on the King Gizzard and Bully merch stores and bought shirts. Nice link there

it's honestly been surprising that there aren't more stories like this that have leaked. this is unfortunately super super common in the scene (and everywhere else) because it's super easy for these idolized musicians to prey on young girls. it really is surprising to me that stories about some of the NY indie labels haven't leaked out yet

Is it common for smaller labels like this to not have contracts with their artists? With Burger announcing they were shutting down, the head guy told Pitchfork he hated lawyers so they didn’t have to worry about contracts going forward because they never signed any.

it’s very very difficult to do things DIY. distribution and press alone can make having a label worthwhile

less important now from a traditional standpoint, but getting a record pressed is still very expensive and most people can’t afford to do it themselves. but getting content added to streaming services, using label connections to get featured in prominent playlists or as a featured artist, helping navigate the royalty market with ASCAP and BMI, radio, etc is why labels still have a place

    from March of this year:

So far in 2020, total vinyl album sales stand at 4.88 million (up 42.2% year-to-date). Further, vinyl album sales comprise 22.6% of all albums sold in 2020, and 33% of all physical albums sold.

I've been reading a lot of old musician bios and there's so much talk about labels and I just skim over it. Atlantic this, CBS this, it's just names to me. Guess the business side just isn't very interesting to me, though it seems marginalized today (or at least changed from the giant corporate structures of old). I'm the generation that quit paying for music in the early 00s

industries always change and that includes music. it’s becoming more common for labels to be a little less hands off during the recording (at least in terms of smaller labels) but they still have a place because they can be a big help in guiding the other processes. It’s easier now than it ever had been to go DIY, but it’s still extremely difficult

I’ve really been getting into the Waterfall II lately and saw you’ve posted about them a few times. I’ve heard some other tunes of theirs that I enjoy, such as Lay low, Gideon, What a wonderful man, Wordless chorus, etc. What albums should I listen to first?
