I watched it and the thing they showed that excited me the most was for a 3 year old game. That Obsidian RPG looked like it could be interesting but I'm guessing that is a ways off. Plus I'm kind of down on them after that half assed Outer Worlds game.
Destiny 2 I'm assuming? Agreed about Avowed. Stalker 2 will be good too, couple other ones I could see playing
I own at least one of the Stalker games, haven't gotten around to them, but I know they are good. Will be interesting to see how they compare to Metro
Xbox’s big play is the value prop of game pass, and it’s incredible to be honest. As a dad with limited time/focus it’s nice to browse through a collection of games and be able to download/ try something. Assuming their first party studios get their shit together, which I think they’re doing, that value prop gets even stronger. Do they ever get in Sony’s neighborhood for exclusives? Doubtful, but I don’t think it matters be cause it seems that Microsoft is more focused on building a gaming ecosystem, and I think there’s a place for both systems to be successful.
I read an article about how the console wars might be dead because none of the three big console makers are trying to do the same thing
Correct, and from their perspective they don’t care if you play on pc or console. I like the things both systems have to offer, but they’re doing very different things right now, which I frankly prefer as opposed to having two systems doing the same thing and getting a minimally different experience or value prop from the other. I think this is good for gaming.
Xbox isn't trying to sell consoles (well they are, but they aren't stupid and they know they're losing to Sony) they're trying to sell GamePasses.
Unfortunately what gives me pause with Halo Infinite is that 343 is ass. I love all the campaigns, but 4 and 5 were shit multiplayer. But this is a discussion for the xbox thread.
while the console makers may have this line of thinking...the consumer absolutely doesn't. They are still the same thing at the core. Last generation proved that. XB1 tried to be your entertainment center and that didn't change the perception of Xbox from a category standpoint.
With the advent of smart TV's, why would anyone need to buy an Xbox to be their entertainment center? I can stream or watch anything I want on my TV without spending an extra $600
This is wrong. The console war is for the finite resources of our time, focus, and money. It will never end, but the manufacturers are going with different approaches to gain an edge in the battle.
I haven’t used an actual computer for hardly anything other than work for probably 4-5 years. consoles are also generally much much less expensive than a high end gaming computer. I don’t really get this argument against Xbox, again, I don’t think Microsoft cares where you play they just want you paying for services like game pass.
Well yeah but that's just the entertainment industry in general. The point is that they seem to be defining success differently. Xbox is explicitly not prioritizing moving new units.
i didnt say buy a high end pc because thats absolutely not what an xbox is. but you can get a quality gaming laptop for 700 which is far more flexible than an xbox for 500.
I mean I could certainly be in the minority, but I don’t use any kind of computer outside of work aside from a tablet or phone, except for rare occasions. If you tell me I can pay $500 for something I’ll use for 7 years vs $700 that I’ll likely have to replace sooner than that and use for largely similar functions (speaking for me personally), I’ll probably just stick with the Xbox.
Because I’ve had an Xbox and a PlayStation for 7 years? My experiences with laptops have been considerably more varied...
I have a 2018 model TCL with the Roku framework in the living room with the PS4. I’ve never thought to use the PS4 for any streaming. My XBO is in the bedroom on a ~8 year old Samsung LED (still looks great so not time to replace just yet) that is technically a smart TV but they have long since stopped supporting and the apps were trash to begin with. I’m glad the Xbox has such strong streaming capabilities because that’s the lion’s share of its work in my house these days.
For most people buying a single SKU is way easier than trying to figure out what gaming PC to get. And the benefits to PC aren't high enough to warrant that extra work and $ for a vast, vast majority of people. The form factor of the console (and ongoing software/firmware updates) is way easier for most people. Don't ever understand why PC people don't really accept this. And I get why the PC stuff is appealing and more flexible but that's not what most people want/need.
I use all three, and i don’t even game that much. gotta have it all. But I can’t stand shooters on controllers, I need Xbox for fifa, and PlayStation for the exclusives.
I very rarely do... but I’ve owned many laptops in my life. Don’t know what you’re trying to get at here.
My newest interview, with Pierre Leclerc, founder of 6 Eyes Studio, the maker of Fell Seal : Arbiter's Mark. Really great look at some of the behind the scenes stuff you don't typically see in interviews, like publishing, Kickstarter campaigns, etc.
I platinumed Ghost of Tusushima already and I’m probably gonna wait a week and do it all over again. Loved the game.
