I went 49/41 last week and lipped out a birdie on 18 to break 90. Front nine I felt uncomfortable doing just about everything and then played pretty much light out in the back. Had a triple and a double back to back and played the other 7 +1. Such a wonderful, terrible, frustrating ass game.
88 today. Was a weird round as I don't recall hitting any really good shots nor hitting any really bad shots. 3 putted 18 for a par, that was lots of fun.
I know that feeling. I shot a 46/43 on Tuesday with birdie, birdie on 1 & 2 and par, par, birdie on 16-18. I was striking the ball really well, but I didn’t make a putt past 5’ all day.
Had an 88 which is pretty decent for me. Weirdest thing was the greens were relatively soft but super quick. Never seen anything like it. This was at the Ferris State course which has produced like 50% of the club pros in Michigan (or so it feels) so I have to assume they have some interesting stuff going on there but this was crazy.
I’ve been 45/38 my last 3 rounds in a row. Nothing good happens until I’m 7 over through 5 holes and then the lights go on. 2-4 on my course are hard as fuck and are currently taking up 98.9% of the real estate in my head. I’m double-bogey-double mentally before I hit the tee shot on 2. Water everywhere.
This is me but one of the holes in the middle is an easy par 5 that I should be putting down birdie every time, yet my head is cheddar due to tough ass holes before and after. Fucking sucks, man.
I’ve been walking 18 there at least once a week since COVID. $15 after 3 and you can play as much as you want
Played the first day of our Member-Guest today. Got run through in our first match, 3-7. Had an 18 handicap shoot a gross 40, net 35. And because his partner is a 3 handicap, he is only getting 10 more strokes than his partner as that’s the max spread. He should’ve shot a net 31. I shot a gross 40 and my partner shot gross 41. Won the second match 7-3. I shot a 38. Third match got stopped by rain with two holes remaining. In the thick of our flight, but we need a good day tomorrow to win our flight. Most likely we will be 4 points back with two matches left.
Thanks man. We’re also in the top 8 or so in the calcutta. Top 3 pays for each day. And there’s $30K available each day to be split up. A lot to play for.
How was the Calcutta? I fly out tomorrow for a member-guest, we led after day 1 last year but couldn’t hold on. Look forward to getting revenge on some of our day 2 opponents from last year,
My member/guest was originally scheduled for this weekend but has been postponed until September. I'm not upset about it as I'm making no birdies right now. Hit 14 greens today, 1 birdie and 2 bogeys. If I could get the tee ball and putter to catch up with the irons, I'm going to shoot a number
So when people say their handicap, what should they rely on? My index is 11.1, but if I say I'm an 11 handicap it would give off the absolute worst impression. I typically shoot between 13-17 over par from the tees I play.
Played 27 holes today. Shot 39-41-40. First 18 (shot an 80 with a double on 18. was our Saturday league for $25 per person and I got paired with a guy with a huge handicap and I figured out why. Extra nine I played against two guy who shot 74-73 today for $50 a person and they gave me one stroke. I shot a 40 and they both shot a 41. I’m so burnt and drank a case of beer out there. Skins game tomorrow
Okay, but maybe I'm in the minority. That makes me sound way better than I am. I guess if you use ghin it evens out when you play other courses but I feel very uncomfortable declaring myself am 11 handicap.
First time I’ve ever seen it done this way. I’ve always been in calcuttas where you bid/buy your own team. They paired our team with another two-man team and it’s based on most points by combined two-man teams. So, my team has pulled 10 points so far and our other team has pulled 10. And we’re both looking like we’re going to pull 5-6 points each. So, we’d finish “day 1” with 32 points. Payout is 50/30/20% for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
GHIN index and course handicap are different. I normally say what my index is, but that is usually adjusted by a stroke or two more for most of the courses around me. So, I’m an 8 index but, depending on the course and tees we’re playing, I’m a 9 or 10 handicap.
Let me clarify. Length is not my problem. I'm above average length (no homo) but I can go through stretches where I blow the fuck up. Regardless of the tees my scores don't vary because of them. I feel like my handicap benefits me from back tees but fucks me from closer ones if that makes sense
Idk...it makes you sound like an 11 hcp which you are. I mean the point of it is to have a standard methodology that can compare similar golfers based on the index. You're an 11 that typically shoots between 85-89 you said. At my course that would be more typical of a ~9 index but your course/tees must have a lower course rating.
Played there once a few years ago. I remember being surprised at how short it was Edit: There’s a really short par 5 on the front. I’m not particularly a long ball hitter, but I’m pretty sure I hit a 7 iron into the green on my second shot
