We probably paid some absurd amount of R&D on the top to get to that unit cost was my point. An actual 733k would be a steal given how we typically work.
They paid that much to DHS, however DHS paid a lot more and are selling it at that price because they don’t need them but continue to order them so that they can keep the jobs in the factory that builds them.
dont they buy most of those from the military after they no longer them, its basically a way to further pad up the military budget iirc (as if the pentagon doesnt have waaaaaay to much money already)
were these purchased by the local departments or given to them by the military? Local police shouldn’t have vehicles like this but purchasing them brings up an entirely different issue. The next post in that thread says the Tallahassee police spent $17 million on a plane. unlike the tweet you posted, I find that extremely hard to believe and it makes me question the info in general. Ending the us government/military from buying too much shit and giving it to local law enforcement is something that can be fixed. If local law enforcement is buying this expensive shit on their own, it would seem like a harder problem to fix.
Yeah I was wondering about that too, I thought the whole point of 1033 was that local PDs didn't have to spend beaucoup bucks to get this stuff.
This is a weird cognitive dissonance because on one hand it's a horrifying dystopian landscape being painted here that seems like it shouldn't be possible but on the other hand it's like "yeah, that's not even remotely implausible knowing what we know".
(That's theoretically exactly 5 years of course but others are saying they've seen years like 2008 at times) Also lol @ the training requirements which all these goons definitely totally have met
Not to detract from the thread - but the police pullback in Hollywood has been a complete disaster. There was basically a "Fast and Furious" situation going on at Hollywood and Highland with no police presence and a 17 year old girl was shot and killed, the video is terrible. I don't know how to spoiler anything so I won't post it. https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/202...ltercation-erupts-during-illegal-street-race/
Rational people: We have too many cops. Maybe we have a few less cops and spend that money on things that will prevent crime long term. Cops: Oh really? Well fuck you we aren't do shit and we don't care if people die bc of it. Don't call us for help! Let's see how you like that! But still pay me.
haha. Of all places to try to get away with that lie - Seattle has quite a few mountain bikers, you're going to get called out immediately.

How is this going to end any other way than violence? Protesters are going to start showing up prepared to defend themselves against aggression at a certain point.
Indiana cops use K9 to rip a guy's throat out. That is not sensationalist take, that is exactly what happened. Yeah the dude's being combative, he was suspected of hitting multiple people, whatever. Notice how they tell him "stop fighting the dog". Guy is alive, but was in a medically induced coma for 6 days. https://www.jconline.com/story/news...s-investigated-k-9-attack-suspect/5481294002/
That’s pretty rough. They went to the dog way too early, in my opinion. Idk if there was racism involved, though, like the article claims... “A police dog mauled Richard Bailey Jr.’s neck for 30 seconds, puncturing his trachea, cutting his carotid artery, damaging the tissue in his neck, injuring his shoulder and breaking his finger while police handcuffed him.” Your take is a little sensationalist, as well. In my opinion. Glad the guy is alive.
Fair. I suppose they didn't "use" the K9 with the intent of almost killing him, and I guess the dog only did its best to rip the guy's throat out instead of actually doing it.
