I'm alright with moving on from BB at this point. We still don't have a half court set offense which is killing us. Obviously talented enough to make the playoffs and win a series or two but not going to get the job done over a long tough series where the calls start to disappear. Also, Ben is going to continue to be a liability in those same situations where teams can collapse and play great D because they know he won't shoot. He has to start taking 5 or so mid range jumpers a game.
How we are we not 10-2 based on brute force alone? These guys should be able to head out on the court uncoached and beat teams like the Magic and Thunder. Brand needs to cut ties with Brown yesterday or all this is going to fall back on him.
It’s frustrating to watch. I realize today’s nba is different than the past, but I’d love to see some numbers on double digit runs. Swear we seem to give up at least three double digit lopsided runs a game. That should happen like on the back side of a back to back home/away split, or on a road trip out west. Not every fucking night. They’re so undisciplined.
Tonight’s all coaching. I know there’s many more nights just happened to flip at half on the semi game. Such a joke.
Should have kept JJ Redick or have money to another quality guard/wing instead of throwing 100+ million at Al Horford just to ultimately make him a stretch four sixth man.
Should’ve never given Horford or Harris the money they are making. I get the Harris extension but not worth it. Should have invested in a wing and some bench depth
At least Harris is an under 30, All-Star quality forward (yes I know he's never been named an All-Star, but one could argue he should have been at some point) that is still in his prime. Horford is already 34 and on the hook for $25+ million at 35 and 36 and at least 14.5 million at 37 as the last year is only partially guaranteed.
If Ben was managed properly none of this would matter. I agree with you on Horford and I wouldn’t argue against Tobias either way. If it was up to me I’d probably roll the dice on JJ for another year and still be in a position to take on a max contract that has real impact. Tobias is probably the least impact you can buy for the money. Still an asset but all of this is conjecture until there’s a real system in place. That’s not happening until Brown is gone.
I believe they would have been better off keeping RoCo (especially in light of what he has done as a 4/5 in Houston now), Saric, and Redick than the moves they made to get Jimmy Butler (and ultimately Josh Richardson) and Al Horford. Saric and Covington combined make over $10 million less this year. Saric comes off the payroll after this year, and RoCo is locked up for under #13 million a year over the next two seasons. Convince me I'm wrong.
I’ve watched a lot of 6ers this year on league pass, bc my neighbor is a fan. Brown, aside from a questionable “system”, seems to be a mediocre in game coach. Warren was unconscious but the 6ers have capable individual defenders. It was like watching this team see a zone defense for the first time ever when the Heat did it to them during the regular season.
I don’t care but that’s not to be dismissive of your point. They have the core in Joel and Ben. My point is that Ben should be a top 5 player in the league. He has the physical make up and athleticism but he’s not properly coached, mentored or managed. I believe it was you that looked up his shot selection this past season. Everything is within a few feet of the basket and all of it is weak shit minus uncontested dunks. If he either developed a jumper from 5-6 feet from the basket or drew contact on his drives it’s game over. It’s really remarkable how productive he’s been given his self imposed limitations of not shooting or drawing contact. As a result all teams do is collapse the lane and let him run around the perimeter or do one of his famous drive into the lane, jump up in the air and randomly spot someone mid way to pass to. It’s never a good pass because, well, that’s not how you run a fucking offense. That said if he realizes his potential it doesn’t matter if he has Saric, Covington, JJ, Tobias, Al or anyone else on the team. To your overarching point, it’s always better to have less invested in the NBA. The side pieces are easy to acquire if you know what you’re doing. That’s especially true when you have talented players that others want to play with. There was also this sense to go for it with those moves. This team was a barren wasteland for years with nothing substantial on the payroll so it was really just kind of house money at the time. I had no issue with the Harris or Butler deals.
I didn't watch the game but one of my NBA media follows says Simmons was guarding him for much of the game. Is that not true?
They got wiped off the floor by Boston with Saric, Covington and Redick and were a bounce from a game 7 OT with Butler and Tobias against the champs. It’s starts and ends with Simmons.
Felt like warren was killing them in transition with relatively open shots. We turned on the other during some of it so not sure.
Basically, a theme for the 6ers is getting surprised by something and not reacting until maybe the last 2 minutes of a game once it’s too late.
Playing Charlotte and Orlando helps immensely but they already have a half court offense. It’s absolutely lovely, balls move around, open looks and guys who can somewhat shoot. If Doc can unlock Ben to shoot some sort of mid range shot and the ability to go to the hoop strong, we will be tough to beat in the playoffs. But yeah with you, I haven’t missed much of them this season. edit: Tobias is absolutely huge for this team. He already knows what doc wants and help implement the offense. We’re absolutely getting value out of him under Doc.
I don’t think he needs a point total to make the team click. He needs to be aggressive and use his big ass body and freak athleticism to get the other team in foul trouble. He gets a few bigs in trouble and Embiid will run rampant.
