This is going to be an interesting Father’s Day. My dad is near the end of the road with his battle with cancer. My parents are meeting with hospice to talk about quality of life. As my dad’s condition was getting worse, my father-in-law was diagnosed with leukemia in May. He has spent the last month in the hospital while being treated. We don’t have confirmation but it sounds like it may be in remission because a discharge nurse reached out to him yesterday. My wife is 8 months pregnant so at this point I’m just hoping my dad stays around long enough to meet his grandson. Our pregnancy has some medical issues so I’m hoping we can avoid the NICU to get him out quickly to meet people. I’m so sick of 2020 but typing this was therapeutic.
Delayed update. She passed in hospice the morning of Mother's Day. Took about 2 weeks for a full decline. Think she had just gone into the hospital when I posted this on 4/22 and she never left. Was in hospice for about 5 days.
Wife underwent phase two of her NSM today. Able to go direct to implant which is what the Dr’s hoped for with waiting to do this after the lumpectomy in January. Good day. Still in recovery can’t wait to get back to see her
Fuck 2020 and fuck cancer She's devasted and I don't know how to help This on top of my aunt's now lung cancer diagnosis
Sorry to hear that man. Cancer sucks and trust me I know. Feel free to DM if you need to chat with someone who's been through the grinder.
Brother in law is still down at about 110 lbs. Had, until recently, had all his hair but now it's gone. "Chemo rash" everywhere. Still doing chemo, oxycontin and weed weren't cutting it for the pain so now he's on methadone. (Big tumor on his right femur, we're waiting for a fracture.) Next month will be a year since diagnosis. Not sure I'd want to live that long watching what he's gone through. I go back and forth with some time being a blessing no matter how hard: time to get stuff in order, say things you need to, etc. Or is a massive heart attack a blessing? 30 seconds and it's over?
Wife just cleared 3 weeks post bilateral mastectomy. Were able to go direct to implant which was great for her. Drains out last week and now having what appears to be some fluid collection that Dr may have to drain at Tuesday’s post op.
My mom had lung cancer a few years ago. Smoker of 30+ years. Fortunately, they caught it early and were able to remove a portion of her lobe and a bunch of lymph nodes. All of her scans have come back clean ever since. Here’s hoping the best for your family!
My dad is near the end of the road. He has been in hospice since June. I missed going over there last weekend because our newborn had surgery and we were at the hospital. When I visited this weekend he was noticeably weaker and his skin was yellowish indicating jaundice because it is causing liver failure. In summary, fuck cancer and 2020.
Sorry for everyone dealing with this awful disease. My mom has had it in breast, lung, and now brain. Shit sucks
Brother in law is going in tomorrow morning to have a rod implanted in his right femur to try to protect against spontaneous fracture. Big tumor on the bone, eating through it and causing a great deal of pain. Also, it'll be day 5 for radiation at that site, and two spots on ribs where they meet the spine. It's an hour and a half each way to/from the hospital, we've driven to every appointment but two since diagnosis last September.
Hospital sent him home from surgery and radiation. No discharge plan, no home situation assessment, nothing. Took 45 minutes to get him into bed from car. Still hasn't sat up, never mind stand or walk. Hasn't eaten, wearing depends because he's pissing himself. Can't feel it... PC doc on thursday said "see how he's doing tomorrow..."
Hope things work out man. If it makes you feel better I went through a lot of those symptoms and I'm better. It can and will, you all just have to be positive and there for him.
Fuck Cancer. Took my dad about 7 yrs ago and tried to take my mom earlier this yr. Sis in law has breast cancer now and friends dad just passed from cancer in lungs. Sad time and sorry about this. God bless all and God speed for a recovery for your loved ones.
