Anthony Castro and Beau Borrows were also sent down. Good they got rid of Mercer. He had zero future with this team.
Pirates lineup is garbage too. One of those fan sites had an article today saying they should trying trade the Yankees for Frazier and Andujar, using Boyd as the primary piece. At this point don't think they could even get those 2 failed prospects, let alone a legit one for him.
Neither of those guys are good. Not sure I’d do that, but doubt we could do much better for him on open market.
they aren't but neither is Boyd. But would you rather chance on them or have another JD Martinez type haul?
That home run call was brutal. I’m pretty sure they’re calling the game from the Fox Sports studios, but they’ve been awful.
Thats probably being generous with the way he's pitching. If they weren't trying to salvage some trade value, he'd be in the bullpen
I pulled up the game cast and that pitch was right down the middle that the ump called a ball. May be worst call in history.
Catcher got crossed up. Only thing I can think of is ump didn't actually see the ball and thought it was in dirt based on catchers movement
We wouldn't get both Andujar and Frazier, but Andujar isn't really a failed prospect. He was a good hitter as a rookie, had major shoulder surgery at the start of last season, and lost his job to a better defender at 3B. Not sure what his value is currently, but he'd be a legit return for someone if they moved him. We probably love him, too, because he has no plate discipline and that seems to be our thing.
Big game for the Fighting Avilas. Franchise cornerstone Dawel Lugo with a late go ahead RBI, and obvious Rule 5 steal Victor Reyes with a 2-5, 4 run, 1 SB performance Vinegar Strokes
Boyd has an ERA over 6.00 since June 1st 2019, and has a career ERA of over 5.00. Outside of that nice 10 game stretch to open last season, he’s a borderline #5 starter on a contending team.
Boyd was still striking out 11+ guys per 9 for most of that stretch last year (including 14.4 in July and 12.7 in June). We clearly should have traded him last year for whatever his value may have been and we'll almost certainly never get the chance to get that kind of return again. Avila is dumb for that. I don't think the version of Boyd we've seen to this point is the same as the one from last year, though, and I think it's reasonable to acknowledge that some pitchers weren't going to come out of the gates in this abbreviated season firing on all cylinders. Some have, but a number of others haven't.
I like his chances of not giving up 6 runs better when he's striking out 12 guys per 9 instead of 8 like he is this year.
I saw Norris got moved to the pen. Norris is only on this team bc he was one of the two center pieces and the trade with the blue jays is looking not so good either.
