ugafish how long does an average person have the virus before they test positive? When I had an exposure, I was told to wait 5 days before getting tested.

How long until those who have the virus are contagious?

The people you are talking to don’t like it when their pathetic strategy of insults and moral grandstanding gets exposed for what it is.

That’s why a cycle of testing every 3-4 days is very important. With that, The window for transmission is reduced, but folks like you want a guarantee, which just doesn’t exist.

I meant more along the lines of do they think the city is just gonna let them travel in to play of community spread is still so bad the grounds are closed? It's not like there's gonna be an influx of money for the city when fans won't be coming. Why open to let them play with no financial incentive?

Of course TX is lead by a moron so I wouldn't put it past wheels trying to force Dallas to let them play and probably even allow fans.

If I had to put money on it, this is the fundamental difference between big ten/pac12 and sec/ACC right now.

it’s not necessarily about guarantees but one group is comfortable with the lag and another is not.

    It's way worse than that.

SEC medical officials told players that teams WOULD have outbreaks and positive cases on every single team. Doctors are essentially guaranteeing the opposite of what's needed to play.

Ideally, every conference cancels their season except for SWAC and MEAC so millions of racists have to tune in and support historically black colleges.

I've seen tons of people mention college towns need CFB to survive economically. Well if any of these programs allow fans at games, you are going to see an influx of visitors to these small towns at a time when people in both the home and away communities should be sheltering in place as much as possible. So hooray your bars, hotels and restaurants make a little money (that the government should simply be providing them in these times) in the short term. But in the long term, that's gonna make shit continue to spiral out of control and make the economic toll worse down the road

I am pretty confident Vandy is ultimately going to vote against playing, and I am just about certain they will not allow fans if they do move forward with a plan to play. In the scenario where they play without fans, that won't stop thousands of LSU fans from taking over the downtown bars, which are largely responsible for the continued outbreak in Nashville and greater Middle TN

it would be really really nice if these big state schools could just accept that yes this year sucks and the financial and emotional toll is really tough but they need to focus on protecting the communities of which they are a part. Failing to do so is going to keep those numbers going up and up and result in winter and spring sports facing a similar fate as last year. And will continue to keep those small towns from being able to safely reopen any time in the near future

    FUCK

I mean that tweet is incredible

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Texas as a state has been averaging over 7,000 new cases a week for like 6 weeks now????

and A&M wants to play football down there???

LOL any SEC president who allows their team to play a game in TX should be charged with attempted manslaughter IMO

lol hiring freezes, layoffs and furloughs and cuts to programs across campus are fine but spending a war chest to keep football running in a pandemic is okay

Yeah, most of the buzz this morning seems to be that this is all posturing and football isn’t happening anywhere. My guess is the B12 or ACC let it ride a few weeks before pulling the plug.

Feels like football will go okay for a bit, the Clay Travises of the world will pound their chests, the wheels will inevitably fall off, they’ll move the goal posts again.

Same thing that happened March through May this year. Time is a flat circle.

One of the most interesting parts of becoming an adult is realizing how dumb the people in decision making positions truly are. Especially when profitability taints their ability to make those decisions, which is always.

I think they've been posturing for a while now. I think canceling the season has been a forgone conclusion for at least a month, probably longer, and everything that has happened since has been an exercise in dodging blame and appeasing stakeholders.

Yep. When the business model is ~8% tuition increases each year and paying HCs orders of magnitude more than they're really worth, it's hard to turn off that spigot.

Finals run through mid-late December at Michigan (can’t speak to other schools or whether that will be altered this year). I took a final on Dec. 21 my sophomore year. So under a scheduling model like that (practice late Fall semester to start playing early winter semester) wouldn’t be that much of a break from the normal protocol.

i'm also not someone who thinks what goes on in your average off-season is as important as most people beyond just recuperating. there's a lot of nonsense in the spring.

3 months of rest and recuperation prior to fall camp, maybe start the season mid-sept

I feel like this is a big issue. How are you going to turn around and have a normal fall 2021 season if the season is wrapping up, say, Memorial Day? That's asinine.

I don't think there will spring football but a workable solution for the Big Ten could be a shortened 6-game, division-only schedule in the spring practice window. Division winners play a title game. Maybe if the Pac-12 goes have a "Rose Bowl' between the conference winners. Start early/mid-March and wrap up at the latest on May 1st. Gives roughly three months between the end of that and the start of fall camp.
