I miss living and visiting LV. Stupid COVID ruined my latest plans.

I went over the 4th, as Cosmo comped me a wraparound suite and a couple of adjoining rooms. It was kinda cool, easy to walk around, everyone seemed nicer and more respectful, and I was impressed with the efforts to keep safe. Treated my friends to an amazing meal in the tasting room at Guy Savoy and had a lot of wine and cigars at Cosmo. Pools were great and had a relatively low-key cabana at Marquee on the 4th.

A weird and different experience for sure, but still a good time.

Well, this one hits home. Both Sage and Five50 Pizza at Aria are permanently closed. Sage was a Top 5 Vegas dining experience for me, and had the best cocktail program in town. Five50 Pizza was wonderful for hitting up weeknight football after work, and pizza was 1/2 price after 9:00 pm on Thursdays. Chefs Shawn McClain and Richard Camarota were terrific to work with.

That sucks. I wonder what becomes of the Five50 space. Edit: didn’t read the whole article.

We were going to do sage last time we stayed at Aria and chose Lemongrass that night instead.

Looks like it’s still pizza, just MGM operating it through Moneyline brand, their sportsbook offshoot

Yep. Probably still good, but I have a hard time believing it is Five50 level.

Lemongrass was/is also excellent. Not quite Sage level because the bar was a bit less. Wonderful Thai cuisine. Terrific GM. The Chef is excellent. He had a hard job. The kitchen was very cramped and it was always HOT because of the wok burners. The cook staff was mostly native Chinese cooks who spoke 2 different dialects and Hispanic cooks from different countries. Maybe one or two spoke English. The Chef did a very good job making it work.

I was just thinking about doing that, but idk if it’s worth it for a working trip where you can’t do much. $50-75 fb per day doesn’t go that far for 2.

Has anyone been this month? Curious as to how lame it is right now (as expected)? I’ve got the antibodies and have been wanting to make a run, but bars/drinking is my thing.

The linked article says occupancy Yates at the opened resorts are about 30% during the week and 50% on weekends. Many properties remain closed.

Right after I posted that someone texted me back. Apparently most places are open and bars are Semi-open but they make you purchase a food item. Atmosphere is relaxed. People are happy to have you he said. I see some talk here:

I imagine there are deals galore and that service is great. Do these make up for the reduction of the typical Vegas vibe? That’s up to the individual visitor. I did have friends go to Mayfair Supper Club at Bellagio last weekend and they had a great time.

Instead of self-serve they now have servers behind the buffet line? I can see that working there. It wouldn’t be feasible at the neighborhood Chinese buffet.

Table service, is what I was told by one person. You order via the menu and get 3-4 choices at time.

I love the shoe sole (and real soul) melting days in Vegas. When the AC hits at the next casino then it’s time to get drunk and lose money.

It’s in front of the strat? You’re still north of circus circus. Few people are going to get to enjoy it.

I assume you’ve done all of those areas. What are the spots to hit north of the Wynn but south of downtown, and west of the highway?

    Rio
    Sahara
    Strat
    Circus circus

Are the names I remember from my last trip. Not that I’m interested in CC.

There is a lot of revitalization if the arts district, and surrounding areas between the north strip and dtlv. Food, bars, arts, shopping. There is a barrier at Sahara that is kind of the point of no return. If you head past it, very high likelihood you’re going to at least keep going into those areas and around Fremont.

last trip I did Delano. Had nice view of raiders stadium, highway (I assume it’s i15). I Walked entire strip until Caesars on west side and palazzo on east side. Then we drove to downtown for an afternoon.

Guess I’m saying as a tourist based on the looks of it, I don’t immediately see the appeal of non- Caesars, LVS, MGM properties just from doing that drive from Delano/MB to Fremont. I think fremonts cool to get weird and change of pace. I’m curious what I’m missing out on if anything with the Rio, Sahara’s of the world.
