Well our plan has grown a lot and we're now in the process of putting about 12 acres under contract to act us our production space. Its Florida so 60% we're going to work on more funky natural stuff with some of the newer hybrids that are coming out and the other 40% will be imported grapes/juice from west coast and Europe. This allows us to work in all 3 tiers so also gonna be setting up a distributorship. Our test batches of vermouth have been wonderful so excited to really push for a new American style vermouth we can move.

    Tasting room early rendering.

we have a pretty insane "Hour of Power" at 1pm Napa time during the marathon: TONS of VERY high-end Napa Cabernet and more from a two-time 100-point winemaker from a particularly special source...you'll be able to figure it out once it gets rolling. Don't miss!

I have bought three cases. 2 cabs and 1 cab franc. Have tasted all three. All three were very good. The price points are ridiculously low considering where he sources the wine. My only complaint is the packaging. I was surprised that I did not have any broken bottles during shipment. Packaging sucks. Pretty much nothing but cardboard.

Come join. Land we're targeting is currently an organic blueberry farm but most of that would be phased out for other fruits.

AGGRESSIVE TAKE. But Napa Merlot's are better so I'll semi-allow it.

Agree. I’ve been pretty happy with my haul today. Flux Red blend, Kaiken Mai Malbec, Tuscan red, a Central Coast pinot, and a Ken Wright pinot.

I'm not implying that I can't enjoy a Napa Cab-- I just find them severely overrated. I rarely reach for one on the shelf or on the menu, a few dishes aside.

A top Napa Cab is mind blowing imo. Second tier and lower end aren’t worth the price.

Yeah but at the top tier price point you can find some transcendent wines from Burgundy or Bordeaux as well imo and often with more complexity

edit: with the admission that I'm new to the game and an unwashed rube

I’m not a huge Burgundy fan. Now Bordeaux’s to me resemble top flight Napa cab in depth and complexity. I’m talking 150-350 bottles. Not Screaming Eagle.

best big cab I've had was a 2003 spottswoode and it was really incredible, but not something I'll go way out of my way to do again

I feel the opposite actually. Right now, the wines being made in the $40-70 range in Napa offer better value than they have in my career at least. The wines $120+ are just...really unappealing to me more often than not, and I taste a lot of them for work. Screaming Eagle, I kid you not, is one of the least pleasant drinking experiences that I've ever had.

Forman's Chateau la Grande Roche, Smith-Madrone, Lail Blueprint, Matthiasson, entry level Robert Craig even...these are all under $70, cellar worthy, and offer a shit ton of pleasure in any drinking window.

Opened up a 2012 CVNE Imperial Reserva last night and drank over the course of 4 hours in the decanter. It's a fucking fire hazard...all you taste is oak and alcohol. I know this is a baby and I've got a 2010 Imperial Gran Reserva in the cellar still but damn was this a let down. Fruit couldn't even come out to play on the final pour.

I hear you. Luckily I can pick up at the winery, so saved $50 on shipping. I usually get an allocation of the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs for our platform, so held off on going too crazy. I've got a pallet of their Gamay Noir en route to our warehouse which is god damned delicious.

    About last night:

2008 Billecart-Salmon Extra Brut -- I've been tasting through a lot of 08s recently and this is, by far, the most disappointing. The price is right, around $80, but much more pleasure in the Veuve vintage brut, Gimonnet Fleuron, and Charles Heidsieck.

2016 ArPePe Rosso di Valtellina -- I won't act like this bottling is some profound, enlightening experience. But fuck me this wine is delicious. Really gained some texture and weight with about an hour and half of air but just about the idea mid-week stunner.

ArPePe is so fucking good. Great pricing for Barolo level Nebbiolo.
