Goodrum has a positive war defensively this year so far. If he figures out the bat and continues to play good defense I’m not sure how the tigers don’t lock him up long term as everyday SS
I was 100% on board with throwing in the towel on Jeimer in the first 7-10 days of the season. If he can continue this type of hitting the rest of the way and we can get any kind of consistency from one or two of the Paredes, Castro, Reyes, Niko group (and the young pitchers stay healthy), that's a successful 2020 season.
Next year’s rotation? Decent rotation. Obviously Mize and Skubal will have some growing pains, but good enough to compete. Ilitch needs to start spending some cash. Gardenhire won’t be back. Fire Avila. Start spending some money under new GM. 1. Turnbull 2. Boyd 3. Mize 4. Skubal 5. Some guy
Bro Avila and Gardy are going nowhere after this season but back in 2021. If anything this coaching staff seems to be putting strategy over gut. I can’t root for Detroit sports to lose anymore. Enjoy the winning.
Highly unlikely Gardy is back, as his contract is up. He’s a loser manager, and was only brought in to get us through this tough stretch. We will hire somebody else, to take us over the hump.
I'd guess between Wentz/Manning/Faedo one would be ready to at least make a shot at 5th rotation spot. Or have Norris there until one is ready
Fulmer is going to be in that mix, but I'm expecting they add at least one vet who takes up a spot because that's what we've done to this point. Avila isn't going anywhere. The kids he drafted are going to have to be busts next year before he gets fired, whether we like it or not. Not sure on Gardenhire. My guess is that will depend on how they finish the season. If they stay anywhere near competitive, I would guess he'll be back unless he wants to retire.
Today reminds me of a Tigers' moment from my youth when we were atrocious but were close to finally finishing a season at .500 for the first time in a decade. Todd Jones got a save and gave the "1 more" gesture because we were only one game under .500 in late September. Of course they didn't, and that streak went on until we made the WS in 06. Only one game under .500 in late August, guys.
Speculation I saw was that it’s likely a good prospect. Didn’t the Tigers just have Rosenthal and cut him?
Lol. Yep they did. They got some. 24 year old CF for him. Actually looking at his stats, he’d probably be our best outfielder right now.
He's a rookie making his third start and going up against one of the better line-ups in the league. Don't think we need to jump to the injury conclusion yet.
