Tell me more about this Bill Thomas Willett. Are these store picks? Bill Thomas is my dads name so if these are somewhat common I'd be interested in one.... but if they're purple tops I probably can't afford it haha
Bill Thomas is the OG of Willett sourcing on the east coast. He owns a couple of bars in DC (most known for Jack Rose) and has been buying barrels from them since they made their comeback. My understanding is he selects and names pretty much all of the purple top barrels that make their way to the east coast. I occasionally get my hands on one because my friend knows him pretty well and my girlfriend works in the restaurant industry. I’ve only met him a couple of times, so I have no access myself.
I'm surprised by how hard they are to find on the east coast. I've only seen it in one store in Georgia and it looks like a distributor (Savannah Distributing) did a barrel pick (#4806) and spread the bottles out.
That is super cool! Willett is the one distillery I'm not super familiar with so that is super interesting. Thanks for the info sir!
I want to rescind my previous comments about Boone County small batch. Now that I've come back to it, I really do like it at $43. It's sweet with mild oak notes. I was biased against this because I didn't want to like a fancy label on yet another MGP sourced product, but it's good bourbon flat out.
I dig it. Never had the previous iteration but I like the new single barrel version. Super drinkable for 107 proof.

Got to sit and have a few drinks with this dude Wednesday. He's the global Brand Ambassador for Heaven Hill. Good dude. http://www.whiskeyprof.com/
Today: (2) Weller 12s (3) Rebel Yell store picks (Rebellion Yell "It's not a Trap") (1) Smoke Wagon uncut unfiltered (now owned by Detlef Schrempf) (1) Elijah Craig Toasted (1) Knob Creek 14.5 year store pick (Slob Creek #3)
Bourbons are so hard to come by up here, I wish I could taste some of what you guys have. The bite always gets me a bit though, i will admit that I prefer scotch right now.
I think I sort of understand the Dickel hate. It’s def a different flavor than most distilleries. I don’t necessarily dislike it but it’s a change up.
I didn’t like michters toasted at all, but I don’t move michters generally speaking either. If I remember right I poured like two glasses of a bottle of michters toasted and sent the rest to Buzz because he loves it.
Went to see if the bigger store has toasted barrel in yet. They didnt but they did have a 10 year single barrel store pick of Elijah Craig for $3 less than the normal small batch. Still no barrel proof in stock though.
Wife got a bottle of Michter's for her birthday from a coworker. She'll be lucky if she gets a sip of it.
It has been a long two weeks since I had a day off. Got ahead on MBA work and house duties so I could get loose tonight. Not a perfectly composed NYGator pic but you get the idea. Not photographed was the rack of ribs in the smokehouse that I just singlehandedly demolished. Cheers Patrick Swayze
Well that just looks and sounds amazing BrickTamland . Starting the night off with a Russel's Reserve store pick.
