Kimbrel got squeezed on ball four. It was a clear strike. Then a bloop and a passed ball. Unlucky turn of events. Cubs still struggling to get runners in two less than two out in scoring position. They should’ve scored more in the 6th and 7th to put the game out of reach. Almora is a disaster at the plate and doesn’t belong on a big league roster. Martinez should help against lefties.
Please stop trying to rationalize how awful he is. Dude was one of if not the best in the game for years, and now he’s fucking trash that doesn’t belong on a major league roster.
No question he has struggled but he’s pitching better recently and it’s like people just wait in the cut to dunk on his first hiccup in weeks. He’s probably not ready to close out game yet as he’s still working his way back. But again it’s a double header and you used Jeffries in game 1.
Q to the IL. Adbert to the rotation. I wasn’t one of these guys who hated the Q trade at the time but you really can’t argue how awful that worked out now.
Ross had such a shit night managing the club last night. Just awful bull pen call after bull pen call. He’s allowed to make errors let’s hope he corrects them and doesn’t repeat it.
I don't listen to Chicago radio anymore so I don't hear all the local commentary, but I feel like hiring Ross the intent was to rekindle the happy fun time like Joe's first couple years. Most of the decision tree for in game is probably mapped out by the front office.
Sure the team needed a new voice and he's provided that. Whatever map led them to not using its top 3 RP all fully rested in place of a soft tossing MR guy who has struggled all year for the 8th in a 1 run game... or sticking with a LHP to face a RHB with your closer waiting to come into the game... That map sucked. At the end of the day he's the manager and the all criticism still falls on his shoulders for in game management
I don't really understand why Souza and Maybin got the starts against a righty. Shouldn't we be saving them for games against lefties when Schwarber and Heyward struggle so much.
I haven’t seen the probables coming up but if we don’t face a lefty they probably looked at best matches and days of rest needed.
His performance this year is definitely making it a lot easier to accept that he won't resign with us. It's just a shame we couldn't trade him this offseason to get something valuable for him.
One of the least clutch players per Fangraphs in the past four years. Check this threads history. Idiots have been caping for him forever. He sucks
Speaking of sucking. Alec Mills sucks. He got way too much of a big head after his first couple good starts. We need Quintana healthy by the playoffs because we need to run with a four man rotation of Darvish, Hendricks, Lester, and Quintana.
good lord the hot takes... 1) No a 17 game run of games isn't enough for me to be ok with seeing Kris Bryant walk 2) Kris Bryant posted the 9th best WAR and has a wRC+ of 140 the past 4 years... But he sucks. OK clown.
This... No clue why they are fucking around. Its beyond annoying. I think we know what we have in Mills. He's not Kyle... time to move on
He’s turned into the Ace we haven’t had since Jake. Just been an amazing turnaround for this guy. He’s been a pure joy to watch pitch every time he takes the mound.
Thanks for the memories Jon. He needs to be done. We can also stop wasting starts on Rea to see what we have in Abbott at any moment
That slider/curve pitch he's added this season is filthy. His stuff has never been an issue... controlling it has. But I agree he's shown enough to slot into a rotation spot next year and he's going to be needed out the pen in the playoffs. That stuff will play late in games.
We won the division and the bats have woken up. Hopefully they can keep it rolling into the playoffs.
Marquez was so nervous. Not sure if you can count on him in the playoffs but goodness his fastball is electric and easy.
I hate it. The twins won their division and just got eliminated by a team that finished the year under .500.
