Holy fuck at that last montage. The eyes were definitely getting misty. Never a flashy show, but just solid throughout. Great series.
Also, it was great to see Andre one last time in the finale and see the way he was celebrated on both sides. Still a gut punch to realize that the kid would go on to die in the War of 1812.
Underappreciated show Antagonists were cartoonish at times but I guess that’s what you get for Brits from American perspective
I can't find the scene, but one of my favorite Andre scenes with Simcoe is when Andre turns his back to him and then the camera catches him giving Simcoe side-eye. It was a subtle movement by the actor but communicated all of the disdain he had for a savage like Simcoe.
Finished binging this last night. Great show. I think they did a great job with staying pretty historically accurate but when they strayed, it wasn't cartoonish. Hope that makes sense. Very few times did I think the story or dialogue was very bad. Only one episode was terrible. That was the Washington mental breakdown episode. Simcoe is an all time bad guy. Loved his politeness contrasted with how evil he was. Andre was a great character as well. Was hoping we'd see Nathanael Greene when they started dropping his name, but I'll take Anthony Wayne's screen time. Only real complaint was it did feel rushed last few episodes. Liked the last scene of Arnold with King George with the pistol. Arnold is all time bitch made cuck
Just spotted Ben Tallmadge on Homeland as a CIA member. Interesting how he played the head of intelligence during the revolution and present day intelligence officer at the same time.
I assume you mean Homeland, so yes. Turn, also yes. I like homeland better season 3. It’s on Hulu as well.
Almost done with season 4. This is a top tier elite level show. Doesn't get nearly enough credit in the mainstream.
shit there’s so many I remember watching Black Sails at the same time Vikings Frontier is good for pre colonial Canadian/British shit Knightfall for crusades although got slow in S2 Wolf Hall (nice short series about Henry 8 but really Cromwell) if you’ve already seen Tudors The last kingdom Versailles The last czars
Can concur on a lot of these. I never finished Versailles. Worth it? Last Kingdom, Vikings, and Knightfall are all excellent. If I need a colonial fix, I usually throw on Last of the Mohicans or The Patriot.
first season was pretty good but didn’t lick it back up I would also highly recommend euro shit Deutchsland series and Babylon Berlin
I watched several seasons of Vikings but consider it a middle tier show and no where near as good as Turn
some ppl don't care about reviews or ratings but I find rotten tomato to be pretty consistent with what i consider to be a good show. If it's high 80s into 90s then I typically like it. If it's lower 80s or below then I typically don't think it is very good. The only show on that list that is in the 90s is The Last Kingdom. Babylon Berlin is a 95. Turn is a 91. The last czars is in the 50s.
Not the same era, but the Americans is a current day turn if you haven't seen it. I have read that poldark something that people who finished turn go to, but I haven't tried it yet
I enjoyed Poldark quite a lot. I’m not done with it but it’s probably even more of a slow burn than Turn was at times. I think it’s not for some people but I enjoy it burning a few eps every few weeks.
I almost started it but then saw a few things that made it sound like a fabio-esque romance. Is that the case?
There is a fairly heavy element of romance but at the same time it plays a pivotal role in character development. I wouldn’t say Fabio. I’d compare it more to Turn in that regard. It’s def no Hallmark crap. The protagonist just happens to be well liked by the ladies but I enjoy it for what it is and have tempered expectations. The time period and circumstances of that era are what drew me to it.
