Brolin is Halleck Momoa is Duncan Issac is Leto Bautista is Rabban Bardem is Stilgar the rest of the listed cast is amazing, I’m beyond excited for this
Momoa as Duncan fighting off hordes of Sardauker while Paul and Jessica escape to the ornothopter is going to look cool af.
Messiah is fucking great. Children is pretty good but imo you can feel it start to slide off the rails.
Yes. Dune Messiah is book 2. Children of Dune is the third book. God Emperor is 4th, which is sitting on my night stand but i have not opened it yet
Messiah is fantastic and thought it was a fitting end to the series. Children was mediocre. God emperor is nuts and I stopped after that
The later books were better on second reading for me, including Chapterhouse. I also read Hunters and Sandworms, but just one time. They are ok, but you can tell Frank Herbert isn’t the author.
That day was yesterday. Thought it was just ok but I’m not the biggest sci fi/fantasy guy AIOLICOCK now I see where you got that avatar message you were rocking for a while. I was like “...where have I read that?”
It's not for everybody. In fact, structurally speaking, it's not what you would traditionally consider a "good story". It's kind of anticlimactic. But, I love it. Every time I read it, I discover new things.
It’s hard for me to get past the cheesiness of another plot where some kid happens to be “the one” and totally dominates all the adults around him mentally and physically, as well as all the “you will address me as my lady!” etc. I recognize this book was landmark though and prob helped to establish some things I’m considering cliche 50 years later
Yeah, I mean you gotta remember this book did that way before Harry Potter or Star Wars(George Lucas stole a shit ton of ideas from Herbert) or LOTR or any of that shit. Also, Paul isn't really like a good guy. Which I think separates him from those other tropes.
I first tried to read it in the late 70's when I was 11 or 12 and quit pretty quickly because I couldn't get the Star Trek TOS Friday's Child costumes out of my head while reading about Arrakis Oh look, a Fremen is threatening Lady Jessica with a crysknife while a Harkonnen cowers behind the boulder
He annoyed me the whole book for some reason. At the end if Fenring got him I wasn’t gonna be mad. I did want him to beat Feyd-Rautha though. Would have been very anticlimactic had he killed Paul
I don't think you're supposed to like him exactly. Herbert's whole thesis was basically "leaders are bad".
I like how he kopped the galactic emperor’s daughter for himself. But said he was never gonna fuck her and keep banging his tribal desert chick
Low key, one of the best things about Dune is it's a fucking quote factory. Two of my favorites: "The mind can go either direction under stress—toward positive or toward negative: on or off. Think of it as a spectrum whose extremes are unconsciousness at the negative end and hyperconsciousness at the positive end. The way the mind will lean under stress is strongly influenced by training.” And "There is no escape—we pay for the violence of our ancestors." As a white American from the south, I think about this second one all the time.
Played the board game tonight. Pretty fun, if a little overrated. I would recommend playing it, but not buying it. There are definitely much better sci fi games out there.
There was a very short trailer played before my screening of Tenet. Not sure how many theaters are showing it, but hopefully the one tomorrow is a little more substantial
