Redzone alone is huge. Had been signing up for Sling the past couple seasons just for redzone.

NFL Network and Red Zone sealed the deal, I canceled Hulu Live last night. The subscription ends in 2 weeks and I will sign back up to YTTV before the first NFL game.

rumours from above are now official.

$10.99/mo, available today w/ 7 day free trial.

Notice how, besides the NFL, there were no mentions of leagues/conferences/competitions or even teams that this package will cover only vanilla terms like "motorsports, soccer, and college athletics"

I'm going to look at what CFB conferences/games and what soccer leagues are included before making a decision. I do not care for motorsports, horse racing and will hardly ever turn on NFL RedZone.

Either way, this is a good day for YTTV and opens the door for more and better add ons, and eventually, I think a la carte. As a Texas alumni in Texas, I don't have the Longhorn Network, and cannot get it as-is right now with YTTV. It will be canned soon enough, but I'd still like to be able to watch our baseball games, tennis, re-airs of old fball games, etc.

I think this is YTTV setting up for when all these RSN deals expire. Now they can move those to a special tier so they don’t have to hike prices for everyone.

I just don't think a la carte is something that most consumers care about.

People hate cable because of the extra fees, contracts, and price increases (unless accompanied by more channels). But in my experience, people really like having a bunch of channels to choose from.

In the context of YTTV, one of its selling points on their site and ITT is that it has so many channels, that you can watch basically anything you could want to watch on it. And they've continued to grow, adding more and more channels, even while almost doubling their price.

If I had ala carte I’d have less than 15 channels, maybe 10.

yep, the main reason why I’ll never go back to cable/satellite is all of their bullshit fees & equipment charges that adds like $50 to your bill

I agree - the average cable consumer is not thinking of the potential ramifications of the industry moving into a rather developed a la carte pricing model, so I'm not disagreeing with you there. Ditto on fees, equipment charges etc.

But I do mean that power users (which I would argue tends to be sports viewers) desire more control over what they get (and don't get) with their cable package.

We already have some control by being able to reorder channel guides and hide channels, some add on packages, etc but truly only paying for the channels you want is the holy grail for me. Cable networks don't want that because they have so much bloat they add on to the core service.

This article reports that $20/month from the average cable bill can be attributed to sports. Imagine only paying $20/month for a cable package that had sports only? I think that would be of interest to many on this site. Even if the $ figure was off by half ($40/month) that is still way under the current $65/mo for YTTV.

Here are some trustworthy sources if you want to dive into this further:
https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/12/if-you-dont-watch-sports-tv-is-a-huge-rip-off-so-how-do-we-fix-it/265814/#:~:text=About $30 are the programming,$5 per household per month.
    https://www.businessinsider.com/cable-satellite-tv-sub-fees-espn-networks-2017-3

And to tease it out further, not only are we seeing media companies vertically integrate their own rights (see Disney > Disney bundle, AT&T > HBO Max) but sports rights holders are already testing the waters with a la carte. See ESPN+ (for only $6/month). Same with CBS All Access, and Peacock.

    I hope it continues, tbf.

I completely understand wanting to have the sports package, but NFL RedZone is readily streamable for free on various sites. Also, typically great quality.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it does as well. Over the last year or so I've just come to believe that people value ease of use and options over paying strictly for what they want to watch.

I also think people won't like the answer to the question of what happens to individual channel prices (including espn+, cbs all access, etc.) when the cost stops being shared by 80 million households. And that a la carte also creates other issues around fragmentation and app availability across platforms.

This sort of thing is nice for my own purposes but one of the biggest reasons I wanted legit sports channels was people coming over to watch games. Streaming sites are less than ideal for that.

Oh for sure. I was just pointing this out primarily for people interested in RedZone only. I do understand the hassle of having something streaming off a site and wanting to change channels or do something different when you have friends over. Not having to show them how to do that, hassle/mess with switching between inputs etc.

So I haven't done it yet but something I've considered is grabbing an Fire TV Recast. Gives you DVR with your locals with no monthly fee and it integrates its guide with any streaming services you may have. May snag when it goes on sale next, especially when sports largely come back.

Make sure you all go and edit your live guide if you have a custom one enabled. It didn’t have NFL Network enabled. It was hidden on mine. I have all the regular sports channels grouped right after my locals so it might only be for custom guides.

Not sure anyone cares but maybe there is a random that might. If you buy the Hulu/Espn/Disney bundle the only way you can avoid ads on Hulu is through purchasing the bundle through Hulu. Dumber than shit.

I thought you could upgrade your Hulu sub to ad free since the bundle pricing works out as you get a credit for the price of the ad-supported Hulu, or at least I’m pretty sure that’s how mine works (I bought mine through Disney+, btw)

Paramount+ will include content from Comedy Central, CBS, BET, Paramount, and other ViacomCBS brands, as well as new original series, live sports, and breaking news.

According to ViacomCBS, Paramount+ will launch in early 2021 in Australia, Latin America, and the Nordics before expanding elsewhere across the globe. The new service will build upon CBS All Access, the brand’s premium add-on service, and serve as a one-stop shop for all things ViacomCBS, from movies to TV shows and more.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the best method to get the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle with Hulu ad-free?

I believe I am currently signed up with the bundle through Disney+ and my Hulu definitely still has ads... Should I cancel my current bundle through Disney and sign up for the bundle through the Hulu site or app?

I think the way I did it was sign up for Hulu through iTunes & the bundle through Disney+ and I get a $5.99 credit on the bundle when I get billed by Disney+, but I think I can upgrade to Hulu ad free if I want & just pay the difference between that price & the credit
