Love #8 Vertical Threat in the Pat Day Mile. For the Derby, gonna box 16/17 and key #13 Attachment Rate underneath hoping to generate a big payout. Or maybe box them all.
Hoping Field Pass stays at 2-1. Will just go with a straight win bet on him. Think he and the favorite (Smooth Like Strait) are a step ahead of the others, and I like the pace setup for Field Pass more.
Pat Day Mile definitely is one of the more intriguing betting races on the undercard. Like the turn back for Rushie, so he's my top pick. Really just looking to beat Cezanne.
This applies to both Attachment Rate and Enforceable (and maybe Mr. Big News if you want to be charitable) in the Derby:
Therideofalifetime is definitely the most likely winner, but at a price, I'm at least a little interested in Belafonte (6). Will use him in exotics, along with Therideofalifetime (10), Pico d'Oro (7), and Midnight Bourbon (8).
Newspaperofrecord (4) is the likeliest winner on the card. I will be looking to do a straight exacta of Newspaperofrecord over La Signare (7).
I picked CeCe (10) to win, and I'll stick with that, but I was planning on her being the 2nd choice behind Serengeti Empress (8). Rather than do a win bet, I'll make my play around Sally's Curlin (6). Will key her in exactas/trifectas with CeCe, Serengeti Empress, and, to a lesser degree, Bell's the One (4). Bellafina is just going to have to beat me.
Moving away from Churchill for a minute: As the head of the Global Campaign bandwagon, I am proud to announce he now a Grade 1 winner. He just pulled a minor upset over Tacitus in the Woodward. It was the race I knew he had in him dating back to last year.
This is a race where I want to just pick a horse and make a win bet, since I think it is a pretty even race. Sacred Life (8) was my top pick, but that was when he was 6-1, not 3-1. I don't want him as the favorite. I think I'll take a shot with Somelikeithotbrown (9).
Impressive run by Authentic. To set a pretty fast pace and hold on like that, he certainly ran better than I thought he would.
Just that portion of the bet and the rest stays active? I canceled it and re entered bc I wasn’t sure.
Yeah just any combination that included Thousand Words. Any combination that did not include Thousand Words in that bet would still be active.
I’d honestly be interested to know. Gallant Knight knows more than I do, but I bought a few shares of a horse 18 months ago and it should have been about breakeven maybe a little less when she was claimed and I think I got less than 10% of my money back. There’s a lot of shadiness going on there. A Derby winner might bring some of that to light when shareholders realize how much MRH raked off of them. Went back and looked at the email I got from MRH. Zero return of capital from the Derby. Used to cover their marked up basis the horse and “future expenses”. They are holding 700k “in reserve” for their 10% stake in the horse LOL after 1.8mm win fee. ETA: math above is incorrect. 10% of 1.8mm went to MRH. So 180k vs. 1.1mm investment. He could win the Preakness (1mm total) and Breeders Cup (3.3mm total) and you’d still only have 2/3 of your money back on paper. No idea how stud will work with them. Presumably with the win today, and a working unit, he’s going to print some cash in early retirement and could be a gold mine if he produces some talent.
I stupidly bought a share of authentic from MRH and it would be infinitely smarter to have just put that money on him at the derby. I still had $100 on him so I’m up on him including the stupid MRH share but I can’t wait to see how bad they fuck me on my share of his stud fees
so he’s won $2+ mil over his last two races but the MRH owners aren’t going to see any of that bc of the kickers associated with the original purchase? owning part of him that includes his stud fees is interesting but like you said I’m sure there’s gonna be some fuckery based on what I’ve read
Yeah and let’s say he wins the Preakness, he’s qualified for the breeders cup classic with a million dollar bonus on the line. Let’s say he wins that too. That would be ~$4.6 million (BCC+Bonus) and ~$600k (Preakness) = $5.2 million. shares are 0.001% so if they don’t add to reserves (they will) that’s $52/share then let’s say they put him to stud and he gets $50k/live foal x 25 foals/year that’s another $12.50/year/share for ? Years I’m no expert, so my numbers could be off quite a bit but it seems like a terrible investment Edit: there is a kicker of $5.85 million due if he wins the BCC, $1 million if he wins the Eclipse and $1 million if he wins horse of the year so it’s even worse than what I originally wrote
I don’t think their fuckery will really get going until he becomes a stallion. And as much of a rip-off as it is, what are they doing that’s illegal? I don’t know the assumed relationship with spendthrift. The craziest part to me is that they bought 12.5% of the horse for $43,750 and sold the micro shares for a total of $2.6 million
just emailed 1000 words to rovell. it sounds like he is going to pursue this. to date MRH has made 400k on fees associated with Authentic. the microsharehodlers now owe Spendthrift and the original owners over 1.2 million
Can you let me know what spendthrift is? Finding this saga interesting but I’m not sure on all the players.
spendthift is one of the biggest stallion farms in kentucky. they're a huge deal https://www.spendthriftfarm.com/
