I had never spent a lot of time with Panopticon, but really got into them over the weekend. The live album and the Kentucky LP are pretty great.
discovered these two European black metal bands with similar album art from famous paintings, one from Denmark, one from Portugal. really good atmospheric black metal. like Drudkh without the baggage. Afsky - Ofte jeg drømmer mig død Omitir - Ode
The Bell Witch and Abigail Williams ones are sick I want a poster of the Bell Witch one but that would be kind of weird to put up on the wall
It's not battle jacket season but I've got the itch to start on a new one. Maybe fewer patches this time, my other jackets weigh about 10lbs each and the pockets are inaccessible because I don't use posery iron on patches.
I don’t collect but I’ve got a few that are pretty cool. ISIS last tour probably being the top. They had a local artist make a print for the date they played here, so bet it is pretty unique. anything I have us rolled up in tubes, not on display.
Mine are rolled up in tubes too, but I'm thinking about pulling my favorites out and start to frame/hang them. It'll require me to remove a few cd racks but I think it'll be worth it. I have enough cds in boxes already a few more isn't gonna matter.
they played an A+ venue where i live on this tour i didn't go because i had some final that i don't even remember. probably my biggest regret outside of never seeing Rush
Yup. Don’t know how many I have but collected for awhile and when we remodeled the house a few years back finally framed a bunch up. Was quite the expense.
I looked on ebay for bulk ordering frames and the damn frames are gonna cost 3x what the posters did.
Awesome! Few things look cooler than show posters. Wish I had more wall space, 5 bedrooms to myself and I'm out of space.
Spoiler Here’s a sampling. Turns out more punk than metal. Including one John Baizley print because it looks cool. Have some more of his stuff as well as the guy Maarten who did some of the Purple artwork. Went overboard on that for a period around Purple coming out. Definitely have some more Mike Thrasher stuff stashed away. Mostly eBay finds.
I think this was both the last show I went to and the last poster I got before the pandemic shut everything down
Those are fucking awesome! Your Baroness is way better than mine. Plus I think mine was an opening slot and not the main. Do you remember where you got the thin black frames?
Pretty sure everything there was from Michaels. Hot water music, thrice, and lagwagon were off the shelf, the rest were custom
I'll have to seek out one of these Michaels. I need thin black frames that don't take up much room so I can hang extra posters with the space saved.
If there is a Best Buy in your neighborhood, chances are there is a michaels right around the corner from it
Looks like there's one about 25 minutes from me, it use to be by a Best Buy but the BB closed about a year ago. Thanks for the tip, been looking on-line and it's hard to get an idea of what you're buying without being able to look it over in person.
you know i generally dont like deathcore...for a lot of reasons. breakdowns are lame. deathcore fans think it is the ultimate form of metal when it isnt. etc etc etc but. but. but. not all of it is complete garbage just 99% of it.
I definitely prefer pure HC over the mixture of the two genres, but every so often deathcore gets one right.
its a very strage genre. even the "good" deathcore bands are so hit or miss (mostly miss). theres some really talented vocalists though. my only exception to the mostly miss rule is infant annihilator, which is barely a band. but i enjoy their schtick. that one slaughter to prevail song is pretty fun
Found out Black Metal has a geography based sound like Death Metal use to back in the 80's & 90's. Learned this when I went looking for bands similar to my new favorite Katavasia. They have a name for it too, Hellenic Black Metal (Greece). This may force me to look back through Rotting Christ's long discography. I also need to spend more time with Polish Black Metal.
I'll never understand some people's fascination with 24/7 politics, unless it's part of their job it's just weird. I generally only use politics if I'm looking to troll someone. My whole existence on this forum came from a political troll job that failed nearly 10 years ago. Left the forum I originally came from for good when they changed leadership and wanted the vets to push products to the new members.
knowing this board and the people who post on it, it could be as insignificant as not liking whataburger
Yes, very much based on regional scenes/sounds. In addition to the Greek and Polish/Ukrainian scenes you mentioned, the Swedish, French, Finnish, and Icelandic scenes are also stylistically distinct. Rotting Christ is one of my favorite bands. Here are the albums I would recommend: - Thy Mighty Contract - Non Serviam - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers (these first 3 are their classic ‘trilogy’) - Theogonia Other notable Hellenic BM bands are Varathron and Necromantia. The Polish/Ukrainian BM offerings are musically quite good (ex: Mgla, Drudkh), but watch out for the racists. They’re everywhere.
Cascadian black metal is a thing too apparently but I've really only listened to Wolves in the Throne Room
One of my friends loves this band and I just... don't get it It's like a parody of br00tal death metal
