Just saw the Hardy botch/injury. How the fuck did they let that match continue? Also isnt this the company that claimed to care about wrestlers safety and was going to offer health insurance and benefits to their wrestlers (although I think they ended up with exact same policy as WWE)
Trying to find a link, forgot this was tonight so I went to Bleacher Report to see results of matches that already happened. Seems like it hasn't been a great show thus far. Bleacher Report hosts their PPV and usually gives very generous grades for segments has given the matches pretty low grades, with none in the A range and 3/5 getting C's.
I’ve said it before but the Cabana/DO stuff is my favorite angle in any company right now. This was perfect tonight.
I'm all for this tag match. Love the FTR gimmick in AEW, enforcing tag rules and the old school gimmick is great in a company who has a great tag division but no real rule enforcement. Also Page is going to be a big star
Wish there was some old school bookers who helped lay out some matches. That was a great suicide dive by Omega, but its less impressive when its like the 4th one I've seen already tonight, and I've only watched the last two matches
This tag match has been real good, but its starting to drag. How long is this ppv supposed to go? Edit - as I type this pace is picking back up
Kenny's knee sure healed quickly...seconds after announcers said he likely had permanent structural damage
FTR as tag Champs, heel Kenny, potential run as top face for Page....a lot of good comes out of that finish
Love ftr and that tag match beside it was maybe too long. Really looking forward to the title match. But this match ain't for me
That was a solid match at the end. Really slow throughout the middle. Happy Cassidy got the win. Jericho is making him a star.
Would have let MJF cook with the belt. It's all about the chase anyway. Ambrose doesn't do it for me.
After watching that botch onto the table, I’m actually concerned for Matt. Sounds like they took him to the hospital. Hopefully he didn’t actually crack his skull or has a brain bleed. People die by lesser hits to the head than that
I agree that is nothing to joke about but I still laughed thinking about how many times she has had to tell Matt “Don’t be dumb!” as he is about to go to the ring for a match
Tag title match was great, hardy spot and treatment of it was terrible. They can’t let Cody come back and beat the dark order. Lee has to go over
Bleacher report didn't give a single match tonight a grade above B+. Also gave 7 of 10 grades in the Cs and didn't give Hardy match a grade. Not high praise from the website that hosts the PPV. Not a great show overall, but some matches endings hint at some things they can do going forward that would be cool. Is it the worst aew ppv? At least it didn't have a truly awful moment (beside dangerous spots and botches).
Sloppy show with some great moments. Women's title match was good Tag Title match was great World Title match was great I especially love the Page/Elite storyline. It's carrying the show for me. I expect Full Gear in November to feature Page vs Cody and Kenny vs Mox, with Page chasing the title afterward and winning it at Double or Nothing next year.
The Casino Royale match can be AEW’s version of the Royal Rumble if they start booking it correctly. Have 5 waves plus the joker spot. - start with your initial 4 in the ring - each successive wave brings out 4 more wrestler (for each suit in the deck, the joker entrance should only be one entrant) - first the 10’s entrance, then the jack’s entrance, then queen, king, ace and finally the joker entrance - space out each wave to like every 4 minutes. - that’s easily 25 wrestlers involved
AEW came out today and said that Hardy passed the concussion protocol which is why the match was “restarted” Spoiler
Pretty funny considering I swear I saw a quote late last night that it continued because he told the doctor he was good to continue. Unless that is their protocol, are you ok? Then they are trying to CYA
They're going to eat shit over this for a while, and rightly so. Tony should have stepped in and stopped the (damn) match. That way you limit Matt's risk, give Sammy some free heat, and set up a rematch later.
They deserve to eat shit over it. I can’t imagine what protocol he could’ve passed. He literally couldn’t even walk more than a few steps before falling down again. Horrible decision to restart.
I like AEW, and wwe keeps making more dumb policies that make it harder to like them. Id ideally like a mix of the two. I think AEW let's the talent do what they want to their own detriment. If they just reigned it in a little bit it would be perfect. You know, someone to tell them that every match doesn't need 10 suicide dives. someone who can go over matches with them and limit some of the ridiculous risks they take. someone who can just make sure what they do makes sense, like not sell a knee where you can't move and then immediately do a post match angle where you high tail it to a car in the back without a limp. I definitely think the aew way is closer to right than what wwe is doing lately, but they need to tighten up.
And I dont want to be overly negative. They do a lot of things well too, and I think there is a better chance they figure it out than WWE does. But WWE is such a machine it won't effect them nearly as much if they dont
