Depends on how much your closing costs are if you wrap them into the loan amount.

5k in closing costs, divided by 36 months is $139 per month. Will your payment be at least that much less than what it is now?

an amortization table would be a more accurate comparison though

Jorts any advice on how to shop for lender’s title insurance? Looking for bottom of the barrel cheapest option possible. I’ve heard you can ask for a reissue rate on your current policy or something like that.

Title insurance is all about the same.
Reissue rates are on refis only, generally when you’ve been in the current loan for less than 36 months. You’ll need to provide a copy of your previous title insurance policy to the new title co.
I work out deals for my refi clients, with title companies, on their fees. We do a ton of volume, and have negotiated lower rates for our clients...

Makes sense. We refi’d 6 months ago and paid $554 (lender paid so the same negotiated down rate you referenced, I’m sure) and have estimated cost of $2500 on new refi sheet.

House im buying has an attached three car garage and a detached two car garage behind house. Going to turn the backyard garage into an outdoor man cave. I have a projector in my house currently, would a projector work in a garage with the door open? Or am I better off just getting a large TV for in there?

Here are the photos from the listing. Think I am going to build a bar along one of the sides, and put a pool table or poker table on the other side. Think maybe a projector or large TV against back wall so you can see it even if outside of the garage and get a couch or some nice seats

You can get a projector to work in a garage, you just may have to spend a bit more on one because you'll need it pretty bright.

We went with quartz and we love it. Super strong and stain resistant, doesn't need sealed like the natural stones. I think a lot of people like the look of the natural stone but I think it looks busy and outdated in many cases.

The savings is because they only need to insure back to the previous funding date & not back 60+ years... which is why they require the previous policy

Don’t they have projectors which can show a single stream or multiple broken up? If it worked I would think that would be the best of both worlds.

I'll look into that. The current projector i already have doesnt do that. So it would be a new purchase either way.

Also, if I throw a TV in the back of the garage, you think a regular TV would work or should I be looking at TV designed for outdoors? I'm guessing if I do the back wall it would be far enough away from sunlight that I think a regular TV should work

I looked into this two years ago. So there may be something new. But the only thing I could find was a piece of hardware that did it but it was cost prohibitive

I mean there are tons of sports bars which have projectors which can break up and show multiple games or a single game on the entire screen. I figured it’s a simple input solution.

I'm going to look into this. Because one projector even if I spend a ton to go top end would be cheaper than 4 TV, and when there is only one game worth watching i could just go full screen

Take it you could just get 4 fire sticks or something to plug in to each input to make that work relatively easy

That was my thought. One negative review was that if you only have 2 views instead of 4 the ratios distort the picture. There are others. I was just happy to find this as an option. I’ll be researching some more.

I can get an ultra short throw laser projector and an ambient light rejecting projector screen for the garage for about $3k, Can get that up to 150 inches. Think I may go that route, and then I can get something like that screen divider and watch four games at once if I wanted and it would still feel like four large screens.

I think we had this discussion before and most of the thread said regular TV. I have a TCL for outside and no issues with humid summers or sub 32 winters. It’s in an uninsulated garage.

This sounds like a pain, but it does make so much more sense for efficiency purposes.

Half of my neighborhood has mail drop boxes on their house which is not efficient at all and would suck as a mailperson.

TV's are super cheap now. I never liked the picture on projector (fuzzy/brightness/someone can walk in front of the beam/etc.) . You could spend under $1500 and get a big screen and 3 32" TV's.

I had some of the same issues with projectors before, but the ultra short throw projector with a professional screen seem to fix a lot of those problems. Video quality looks great in reviews I am watching. Projector only sits 7 inches in front of the screen so no issue with people walking in front of it, and the one I am looking at seems to display 4k up to 150 inches. I am sure TV has a better picture still, but I don't see any TV that is getting up to 150 inches that is in budget. Basically could turn garage into a theater

I’ve had both. And the room I had the projector in was windowless with one door.

If you watch a shit ton of movies the projector is the way to go. it’s prohibitive for entertaining and watching sports because you fight the need to keep the room dark enough for a great picture and bright enough so you and your friends aren’t in a cave

if you watch a shit ton of sports and entertain with a lot of guests, multiple TVs is the way to go.

What's the detached garage look like? is it like the older sheds that houses have that used to be used for keeping stuff like lawnmowers and tools etc in or something way more modern?

I looked into this very hard about two years ago. I ended up going the cheapo route and is what I ended up buying. It was like $150.

It allows you take 4 inputs into it via hdmi, and one output to the TV.

    upload_2020-9-10_11-19-7.png

It allows the following views. It really is only useful on the quadbox or the "1 big 3 small" which actually worked pretty well. This was on a 78 inch samsung tv. I would not do it on a smaller TV at a viewing distance of ~13ft.

I am going to upgrade into the 85 inch area or so and I am going to pick up this which allows for full customization (how you want the screens arranged, how big, 4k/1080p, etc. etc.)

Thinking if I get the projector and a 120 to 150 screen, that would work great splitting into 4 screens during football games. Each screen would still be large and i can go crazy large with movies or if there is only one game worth watching

Yes. Projectors have gotten significantly better even in the last year or so. The screen is very important. Don't go cheap especially if you are going to quadbox on a large projector. I had 2 uverse connections, a firestick and my xbox hooked up to mine and enjoyed it a lot. March madness is fun.

Watching YouTube videos, it seems an ultra short throw projector with the screens made for them that block light from other directions deliver great picture quality and don't have the issues a lot of older projectors had.

The dopest setup I've seen is an Optoma CinemaX P1 with an Aeon CLR (the original, not the CLR 2 or 3), 120inch screen. Its a movie theater, brand new for 5k.

It sucks that not only tv manufacturers have generally dropped PiP/PbP, but also that basically none of the streaming platforms have adopted or built out tech to leverage multiple streams. ESPN used to have a robust multiview on the web and perhaps on Android, but now its only on Apple TV (likely even only the 4K version, the model I have). Microsoft even dropped the HDMI-In port on the newest Xboxes. Last gen had it on both, allowing passthru.

Without a software solution (which is easy) we are all here talking about discrete hardware splitters and having to connect up to 4 video sources into it, which is cumbersome. I'm saving some of these Amazon links above to look at later. I have some extra Chromecasts lying around which means I don't have to worry about moving another box each time I want to run 4 at once.

Does anyone else know any apps (related to sports or networks that carry sports) that support multiview?
