This AM move is purely marketing. Wolff even said so as much stating that Ashton Martin is big in Germany.
Don’t get why Mercedes didn’t put Bottas and Hamilton out together in clear air. Disappointing Bottas didn’t get a chance to go for it.
Max out on the first lap. Bottas beats Hamilton off the start. Vettel with a broken wing. Gasly out of the race. A lot happening on lap 1.
I don't like races where Max gets wrecked considering he's the only one who can consistently challenge Merc.
No idea why Grosjean is upset the rear of the field started without the leaders going. Bizarre. Only 13 cars left.
Man idk if its the track itself or the lack of knowledge of the track but this is crazy. Also i really feel for Max. Such an amazing driver continuously fucked over by something out of his control. RBR needs to step it up and get him the machinery he needs to win
Turned away for a brief moment, turn back to watch and I see car parts flying everywhere on the straight
Don’t think so. First was caused by Max dropping back so fast and second was just the restart. We haven’t even seen a full lap yet lol
Low key storyline the rest of the way....can my guy George Russell get a point for Williams since there's only 13 or 14 cars left?!?
Well shit....he got a terrible start and is behind both Racing Points. Hamilton got in front of Bottas. We're probably going to get a Merc 1/2 finish and a Stroll 3rd and I'm going to puke.
I’m glad others hate Stroll too. But I just don’t know if it was the Netflix doc that gave me the hatred.
Good lord Ferrari. They also started hinting at more of the same next year. Looks like they are going all in 2022.
Did not know that the movie studio named Ford v Ferrari here in America but named it Le Mans '66 in Europe.
Kimi cracked me up today on that radio broadcast. His engineer should have known to answer him more directly.
What a weird race. The best part of this season, though, is definitely getting away from Tilke tracks every week. Fun to see so many tracks that either have never been used, or it's been since like Senna/MS days that we've used them. OT: is there a way to watch archived IndyCar races without buying some dumb NBC subscription? I've had no luck finding streams, etc. Wanted to see one of this weekend's because Mid Ohio is such a cool track, but was busy during both races.
I agree, kid is so afraid of losing his seat that he couldn’t even enjoy the win. The radio to the crew was basically thanking them for not firing him.
As long as Red Bull has Max so elevated above the #2 driver this is going to be an issue. They should break away from their development program until they can find a legit second driver. Not only is Max's talent tough to contend with, but the car will always be tailored to him as well.
it seems like a toxic working environment. but a lot of those teams do. bottas has the best job in the world. just drive around the best car and get 2nd every week and probably make like 20m a year. seems like his job description is basically don't be an asshole to hamilton and dont crash
This hits the nail on the head. What RB is trying to do is have Bottas, but lack the car needed to put him day in and day out in that position. Max is a crazy talent, and has shown he gets every bit out of the car. Alex gets just a little bit less out of it, but they cannot reasonably expect to have two Max’s while also wanting a clean 1 and 2. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. Alex I believe is neck and neck for 4/5 in the driver’s championship. The merc runs away from even Max. I really don’t think outside of maybe Seb, or Danny Ric. Guys who have been in that car before. Anyone could come in and get any more out of it than Alex does
I think the big thing with the current RBR setup (sorry if someone already said this) is that they REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna be the next Ferrari and have a driver development program that's prestigious, etc. But...success of that is mixed. I wish they'd just cruise the market and find a #2 who is a good fit but won't be Max. That guy exists: he's Mexican, and doesn't have a ride yet for next year.
On race day Albon does a really nice job. In part it’s because he has the 4th best car on the track. I don’t think anyone expects him to be out pacing Max. Max is elite. But he should be competitive in the same mold as Bottas. And he’s not and that’s the key issue. instead of having Albon in 4th and being able to play strategy games with the Mercedes Albon has terrible Q efforts and Max is on an island alone. The fact he’s such a good race day driver is probably why he’s still in his role. Pierre struggles to qualify and wasn’t strong on race day. I have no doubts in my mind a Bottas or Seb would get more out of the car.
RedBull has a good history with its drivers program. Webber Seb Ricardo Max Your going to have a few guys who just don’t live up to the hype and they fall to the wayside.
F1 needs more teams... that’s the larger issue. So many talented guys who can’t find seats. It’s a shame. let’s pray the new regulations allow for more teams to join. I saw an article that Mercedes LOST 19m last year between operation cost and winnings. But that was deemed a success because of the advertisement they get from being in F1 and winning the championship. If some teams could actually turn a profit without being champs that would help the sport tremendously.
