Let’s see what Castro’s stat line looks like at end of season. Robert has about 100 more at bats than him. Willi issue is he doesn’t walk. He didn’t in the minors, and he only has 2 walks on the season so far. His BABIP is like .440 right now, so he’s been pretty lucky.
Oh I'm in no way saying Castro is a better player than Robert, just keep waiting for him to come to earth and he keeps doing better. He may sneak into ROY conversation
I think Roberts is a lock. Kyle Lewis will finish #2. I could see Castro getting some top 5 votes though.
It's probably Harold Castro because I'm not getting my hopes up for anything more interesting than that.
It’s really disappointing Boyd had a chance to keep us a game back from the WC as he’s our ace but he just shit the bed in 3 innings
I want very badly for this season to be real for him. He's almost at a 1.000 OPS And he can play SS for all I care if he keeps hitting this way.
Tigers have a lot more offensive pieces than I expected going into the season. Wasnt sure we had any regulars, but I can say I'm comfortable with W. Castro at SS, Jeimer at 3b and Reyes and probably Jacoby in the OF for at least a couple seasons. Wouldn't shock me to see Schoop back. Still need a couple impact bats, especially someone who can get on base a lot and draw walks. But the offense in the rebuild seems further along than I expected. But then again my expectation was absolute rock bottom Need to SP prospects to start panning out. Hopefully we bring in a real Pitching coach next year.
It would be nice to have a position player that is worth a shit in our lineup. Unfortunately this season has proved that it’s pretty risky to rely strictly on pitching prospects for your rebuild. If Mize and Skubal pan out, we are going to have to wait at least until 2022 or 2023 for them to make an impact. By that point, I doubt Avila is around.
I’m not sold on Castro at SS. Below average defender/arm. I think his best fit is at 2nd, or as a utility guy playing 90-100 games a season.
I'd be fine with him at second too. I think between him, Paredes, and some other guys we have, despite me liking Schoop, I could definitely see and be ok with going with what we have and spending some money on a big bat at 1b or corner OF spot.
You’d think they start spending money this offseason, but the free agent clsss isn’t anything to write home about. This is what we’re looking at They’re not gonna spend on guys like Springer, Lemehiau, and Realmuto. Notable free agents for 2020-21 Catcher: J.T. Realmuto, Mike Zunino, Yadier Molina First base: Yuli Gurriel Second base: Cesar Hernandez, DJ LeMahieu, Jurickson Profar, Daniel Murphy (mutual option) Third base: Justin Turner, Zack Cozart, Jake Lamb, Marwin Gonzalez Shortstop: Marcus Semien, Andrelton Simmons, Jonathan Villar Outfield: George Springer, Yoenis Cespedes, Michael Brantley, Joc Pederson, Jackie Bradley Jr., Jay Bruce, Giancarlo Stanton (opt-out) Designated hitter: Nelson Cruz Starting pitchers: Corey Kluber (club option), Trevor Bauer, Robbie Ray, James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Jake Arrieta (club option), Marcus Stroman, Jose Quintana Relievers: Blake Treinen, Alex Colome, Andrew Miller (vesting option)
Would imagine they look to resign Schoop/Cron/Romine and a stopgap player for RF. Try Castro at short with Goodrum back to supersub. Paredes back to the minors. No big money spent until 2022.
They have been doing the stop gap thing for the past 3 years. At some point you need to sign guys to long term deals. Schoop played himself into a multi year deal this season. If not from us, some other team will give him one.
Maximum positional value!!! I know you're joking, but don't give them any ideas. Or they could move forward with him at 3B and Tork at 1B and be set at the corners, but they won't.
I still don’t get what they’re tying to do with Tork at 3rd. Unfortunately we can’t give the Tigers player development stafff the benefit of the doubt either.
We're in an interesting position to make some moves with our financial flexibility at a time when the rest of the league is coming out of a season with no revenue. If we play it smart (lol), we have a chance to be really busy in what could be a down market and make up some real ground. For example, If Springer's price is down at all from what it may have been pre-COVID (and he's about to turn 31, so that's possible), I'd be all over that. I've been driving the Joc Pederson bus for a while and think he'd be a really good fit. I don't want anything long term, but I'd even consider Marcus Semien if it was only 2-3 years. I have zero interest in Bauer (personal hatred for him), and we shouldn't be in on any pitchers for more than one year unless they're bargains.
