For the people who say government can't ever do anything right, this alert system is pretty cool. Everyone with a phone within like 50 miles gets an alert and a link to an info site immediately when a warning is issued
You aren't wrong but... being in the same county and thus receiving those nerve-wracking buzzes even though you aren't impacted is quite a... rush
that's my parents' property in estacada on top of day hill. the locals out there in bulldozers trying to do what they can to protect their homes were apparently told they'd be arrested if they don't evac
Fuck man that’s terrible. I’ve got a ton of people I know either evacuated, ready to go, or just choking on smoke. Hope their house comes out the other side ok.
Red Cross seems like the popular answer Aside from that you could "go local" and find your nearest evacuation shelter and hook them up with useful stuff (food, personal hygiene, etc)
My wife’s work is collecting food and clothes tomorrow so her and I are going through everyone’s closets to give everything we can right now.
possible stupid take: maybe the massive fleet of c-130s that we all paid for could have been mobilized to fight the fires out here
Definitely recommend the donate blood thing. Red Cross has been running low as it is ever since Coronavirus hit because people haven’t been going out and because a bunch blood drives have been cancelled throughout the year.
I know Lincoln City is being torched but it’s suppose to have rain for a week starting Sunday. I really hope it gets here.
And just think - the readings throughout the state of Oregon have been on average twice as bad as any in the bay area today, and it's been that way basically since Monday.
the thing that pisses me off more than anything right now is the assholes that are looting Mill City among other places devastated by these fires
Most likely Red Cross. They’ll be doing all the shelters for evacuees. Or if you want to help animals look for the local organization coordinating that effort. They’ll probably need pet food, crates, etc.
A chick I’m friends with posted an obvious fake pic of fires basically encompassing the Golden Gate Bridge just so she could post a matching pic of her riding a bike across it. Reminded me of everyone posting pics of themselves in front of notre dame cathedral when it burned down.
I found a link to donate to Red Cross for the wildfire efforts specifically and donated there and had my employer and wife’s employer match it. I’ll dig up that link and post it for those interested.
Two cities, populations of 7k and 5k and on the I-5 corridor, completely wiped out. Climate change is fake though, stupid libs
At this point I'm just assuming all of that sort of stuff is bullshit I liked the one where antifa started fires in Southern Oregon, because you know, there are tons of antifa types in Roseburg
Next door neighbor's son lives in Mill City, was talking to him after work yesterday and he says it's real
just drove over to pick up a burrito, parked at USF. Saw their baseball team on the field practicing with an AQI of like 196 or something my god. As if making them engage in activities during a pandemic wasn't bad enough
It's legit. https://kval.com/news/local/two-men-accused-of-looting-inside-oregon-wildfire-evacuation-area https://www.kptv.com/news/sheriffs-...cle_0082ad08-f37e-11ea-9f97-b36723416fa3.html People suck, and I wouldn't want my shit stolen, but in the grand scheme it's a pretty small issue.
The distribution company I work for in Oregon (Portland metro) had to send everybody home last night because the air-quality got so bad. Got word that one of our biggest supply chain stores (Fred Meyer, think of Wal-mart that isn’t the scum of the earth) distribution center had to do the same. Safeway/Albertsons is in same area so that may happen too. In other words, you might see a rush of people trying to get supplies because there might be a couple days shortage (let’s hope for that rain). Good thing *checks notes* we aren’t in a pandemic. Oh that’s still happening? Well carry on 2020, carry on.
Yea, let’s just say I went from a 2020 mood of unpleasant to even more unpleasant to start the morning.
