Went back and found it. Always liked this conversation between JTE and Jason. https://aquariumdrunkard.com/2009/04/10/long-shots-justin-townes-earle-jason-isbell/
Yeah it was. Cory Branan is the only person that I've ever seen ask the audience to just shout out what they want to hear.

I love this entire show but I’ve never been more moved by a televised performance than this iteration of 18 Wheels of Love. “And she said, Patterson, it’s Chester” gets me every time.
Holy shit, thats insane. I just paid $200/4 person for shovels and rope next month, and I get to sit outside rather than stay in the car.
PBS subscription ($5.00 a month) is a great value. ACL archives, This old House, great performances, American masters, antiques roadshow, frontline, etc... so much good content.
Patterson is doing a Noonchorus tonight dedicated to Southern Rock Opera. looking forward to hearing what he has to say about it.
Maybe, but they’re a band hit especially hard by all this. The venues they usually play aren’t going to open up for a long time, and even outside of the band they’ve got a group of crew that’s been with them forever to pay.
I’m supposed to be tagged in all Dawes mentions This is a great song and as far as I’m concerned they’re 4/4 on new songs. It Didn’t Fix Me kinda feels like the predecessor to Crack the Case where the narrator gives up hope.
Not a huge Dawes guy but getting there. Caught the 2nd half today and that was my immediate thought too in regards to crack the case
I know we all hate Shonna but John Neff was a really talented guitarist and DBT was better live when he played third guitar and Gonzalez plays keys only
I feel like I got drunk one night listening to it and offered up an idea to a friend, but I’ve since forgotten it. Maybe I’ll give it a good listen to recall.
Reading online, appears to be in reference to Bush’s response to Katrina. But DBTs have only become political in recent years :)
Without looking I would say it’s about a southerner waking up to the bullshit myths he’s growing up knowing as truth but I guess you could say that generally about slot of their songs.
I asked the Mrs. this exact question on a vacation road trip recently. We listened to Brighter than creations dark in its entirety. The main messages I take away are; -most people foolishly live their lives for an audience that doesn’t exist. The anxiety of living your day to day concerned about other’s perception of your daily life is wasted energy and no one is actually paying a attention anyway. - life is short, you can’t take it with you. Or as my uncle says, “I’ve never seen a uhaul following a hearse.” Use your time here for the benefit of others, don’t chase material gains stepping on other people to get there. - Dont waste your time chastising other’s points of view for your own crusade because you’re no better than the things your judging in doing so.
This especially is what Ghost to Most is all about, IMO. Skeletons ain't got nowhere to put their money. So worry more about your current life and less tangible things than money. I have read it's about GW Bush. I think that's certainly who is talking about in this verse: Saving everybody takes a man on a mission With a swagger that can set the world at ease Some believe it's God's own hand on the trigger And the other dumping water in the streets Talking tough is easy when it's other people's evil And you're judging what they do or don't believe It seems to me you'd have to have a hole you're own To point a finger at somebody else's sheet GW definitely had the swagger to set the world at ease post 9-11. And it was easy to talk tough about Bin Laden or Hussein and their beliefs. But it's much harder when people pointed the finger at him.
