I’d be legit freaked out having to listen to that wind howling all night, I’d take a daytime landfall every time
Night landfalls suck. when the power goes out and you’re sitting in a dark and silent house and all you hear is the drone of the radio weather guy and the whistle of the wind going through the seams of the house. It sucks
Exactly, the hell with that - only thing that would freak me out more is a tornado hitting at night since you can’t see the damn thing
unless you were dumb enough to stay in a flood zone, what's the point of listening to the radio? The storm will pass when it passes. You are at its mercy by this point. Light some candles, crack open a beer, and play some board games with the family.
I feel terrible for the people who were affected by Sally, but fuck I feel like we had about 10 days or so heads up and people just left their fucking boats in dock, stayed in flood zones, etc. I know covid throws a wrench in some options but it doesn’t feel like most people took any precautions.
Baldwin County definitely wasn't as prepared for it as we should have been. But part of that is because it went from Mississippi landfall, to mobile, to Baldwin/Escambia over the course of about 28 hours, and by the time it was certain, we were in non-stop rain. We got more damage from this than Ivan, way way more. Very weird storm.
My in laws were affected pretty badly, but to be honest I don’t think I would have left if I were them. Sally changed a lot really quickly. Cat 1 then (as predicted at the time) got to pretty much Cat 3, and by the time that occurred the flooding had already started happening. No one knew exactly where it was going to go, plus it sitting. As Tiffin said, really weird storm.
Just got a boil water notice from the city of Fairhope. So that's a good sign. Left to bug out to Arkansas for a few days, seeming more and more like it could be a week or so.
Well I certainly didn't expect the first Greek storm to affect Portugal and Spain. When was the last tropical storm to hit Europe?
Europe getting impacted by Subtropical Storms and Post-Tropical Storms is more common than you'd expect. Once the storms get into Europe, the NHC hands the forecasting duties over to European weather services, so the NHC tracks often stop just before a European impact occurs. But a Post-Tropical Lorenzo last year hit Ireland and the UK, Post-Tropical Leslie impacted Portugal/Spain in 2018, Ophelia impacted Ireland/UK in 2017, etc.
Delta is going to keep blowing up in a major way between now and Wednesday. Almost ideal circumstances for rapid intensification. Fortunately the further north in the Gulf Delta gets, the less favorable the circumstances become.
Of course I’m supposed to go to Playa del Carmen on Thursday - guess I’ll be playing the waiting game to see how much shit it tears up as it rolls through before I decide whether to pull the plug on the trip Wednesday night
I guess the base commander at the base my brother is at got reemed for not prepping enough for Sally, so my brother is having to move to their backup site tomorrow before we really even know where this is going. And also bring all his deployment gear since he’s their no-notice deployer right now.
two days on and this track hasn't moved much. They're really good at this forecasting stuff nowadays.
Bunkie seems like a real asshole, I’d be willing to bet one of her friends has a cock and she getting extra pipe time in these conditions.
we were supposed to leave tomorrow morning...looks like a shitload of trees & power lines down everywhere there but not too much crazy structural damage
Buddy of mine was in Tulum last week, Monday they all flew to Mexico City to hang out and wait out the storm. Seems like it was a smart idea now.
Yeah no kidding I’ve been down there before when a tropical storm hit near the Mexico/Belize border, so we got hit with the dirty side of the storm for about a day. It was about 15-20 mph sustained winds & about 10-15 min of torrential rain when a rain band would move through, but nothing else was too bad minus them closing the beach in front of the resort. That thing kicked up some pretty gnarly waves, so I can only imagine what the waves from a hurricane look like when they come rolling in. I’m sure the beaches are pretty non-existent at the moment due to the sand being eroded back out into the ocean.
Tulum: when you want to go to Mexico and still have the comforts of rosemary beach demographics all around you.
No lie, saw this headline earlier and thought it was some kind of college sorority joke. So the forecast is calling for more than glitter?
Weird ass weather in central SC this morning. Basically still dark at 8:30 but warm and windy outside
