What company? I’m also in Atlanta and my yard is a disaster. I just started using Arbor-Nomics to do regular monthly service, so giving them time for results given how bad my yard is. However, I’d like to have more than just the typical aerate and drop some seed and leave service.
Friendly reminder for us warm season bros that a lot of places are now ready for pre emergent. Here in Raleigh, NC we are at about 71 degree soil temps and falling, so winter weeds will start germinating soon.
I'm thinking of doing a fall pre emergent soon Never done one before Anybody have a suggestion for something to use on st augustine?
This is what I use: https://www.domyown.com/crabgrass-c...MIsKem-KLw6wIVDk2GCh2g4gUtEAQYAiABEgI2rfD_BwE I have messed with the liquid and I think they are cheaper and probably more effective but going granular is so much easier to just get out.
I'm still spraying and pulling weeds here just north of Charlotte and it's going to rain for the next few days.
Should take a look at Greencast for soil temperature monitoring. Just got the email, Charlotte still above 70 degrees but getting close. Specticle Flo going down soon.
Put down preemergent and fertilizer last week in Dallas, because that’s what Neil Sperry told me to do. I’m thinking about trying a winterizer this year.
how long did your yard smell? It's only been a few days for me, but I'm already getting shit from my wife.
Yeah, I've watered the past two days. I think it's starting to settle down. I read online it could last two weeks, and I was hoping that would not be the case.
Honestly didn’t notice anything, but I watered it in that day and then it lightly off and on for maybe the next four days.
I've discovered the key to making rain Just let my lawn go a little more than a week without mowing and it will start raining every couple of days soaking everything so I can't mow until its super long and my yard looks like nobody lives here
Have any of you battled brown patch or dollar spot on bermuda and had any luck? Think my yard got over fertilized in August and burned up. Curious if anybody has had any luck with fungicides and how I should apply. Bought some Prophesy from Anderson’s. Haven’t applied yet.
I battled them a few years ago. Even the commercial i hired couldn't keep them at bay. They destroyed my front yard If you aren't expecting rain, get dichotomous earth
Just rained a lot , does that help ? And my yard ppl keep sending emails about them . What is the cure?
The rain makes the DE useless I didn't get rid of them until it stayed dry for a while and I dumped the DE on the lawn Chemicals would kill them, but they'd be back in a week killing more.
Bifen I/T. 1oz/1K ft. Spray monthly. No bugs. It's the same AI that most of these mosquito guys use. I treat my turf and landscape. Very few bugs.
This or if you can get your hands on Suspend Polyzone which will provide longer term control though not sure the effectiveness on Chinch bugs.
Going through it now. Posted here a couple weeks thinking i was losing my yard to a fungus. Had a guy come and told me it was chinch bugs. I had him treat it immediately. I’ve been doing my own lawn care forever and never had them before so I was certain it was a fungus. I’m pretty sure he used Arena and it’s been a few weeks but I think they are under control. I told him I use Specracide for pest treatment and he said that usually does a good job.
take all my likes. literally have an amazon window open for a soil temperature probe. Greencast has my zip at 76*, meaning ive got a longer window than I'd assumed on applying P-E.
I had it bad 2 years ago in my zoysia. What I use is a mix of two active ingredients to attack it from a couple of ways. Easiest is just to get these both from your local store: https://www.homedepot.com/p/BioAdva...VCuazCh28lAZyEAQYASABEgLuB_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.homedepot.com/p/Scotts-...VCuazCh28lAZyEAQYAiABEgJ1TPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Now that you have had it, it's very likely this will be a yearly battle. Start putting these products out in a preventative manner during transition seasons. Around here one of the bad times is late spring, early summer when we get a lot of rain and humidity makes a big jump.
You likely don't need to put down fertilizer this late in the year, only P-E. What is your USDA zone? or Zip?
You're fine to fertilize in Tampa if you want, does your grass even really go dormant that far south?
Depends. Some years I can go pretty much December to February without having to mow, or maybe mow once or twice Some years I have to mow every few weeks when it's really mild
FWIW I don't believe Azoxystrobin treats dollar spot effectively. NC State is a great resource for fungicide effectiveness based on type of fungus. https://www.turffiles.ncsu.edu/diseases-in-turf/dollar-spot-in-turf/ Chlorothananil is a great contact fungicide for both, but needs to be used on your highway easement as it's not labeled for residential use.
that’s what I thought but have never had it in my yard. Wanted to make sure before I start reading bags to see if they kill it added to list dollar weed, crab grass, and basket grass
Looks similar to my spurge in DFW, but likely a different species. Could easily be a type of clover too.
https://www.domyown.com/crabgrass-c...MIsKem-KLw6wIVDk2GCh2g4gUtEAQYAiABEgI2rfD_BwE I have had good success with that. Actually putting it out tonight.
Has anyone in Birmingham (or 7b/8a in the South) done St. Augustine grass from sod? If so, was it a good choice? What should I expect to pay? I have a backyard that is VERY shady. I had some shade fescue growing well for a couple years, but the hot and dry Summers here lately pretty much killed it all. I could do some amending and try again, but I'm lazy, and the yard is very rocky, too. It's not a big yard, pretty much 50'x50'. Anything you can offer would be helpful. I imagine my window for sodding this Fall is getting really small, but I am open to knocking it out.
So I put a bag of that Scott’s triple action down about 4 weeks ago... worked great. I do have two spot that have a little weeds left...not bad.... However I still have 1/4 bag left of the Scotts. Would it be okay to throw it down in those spots, or would it be to much?
Recently moved into a home that was a complete rebuild so the yard is a mess. Back yard still has some construction debris and top soil has been completely removed after they graded the yard (all mud). Had someone quote me for landscaping the front and back yard as well as complete turf management for the grass (seed, straw, etc). Total yard was 3600 for turf renovation and then 7200 for landscaping the yard. Seems high but I am completely new to this. thoughts?
Way too many variables here. Is it something you could reasonably do yourself or is it too big of a project? I don’t have a big yard, but it was essentially a soggy mud pit after neglecting it last fall and it being covered in leaves for the winter. I did a little research and seeded it/fertilized it myself and it looks great now. $10k+ seems absurd to me.
I would doubt you should sod in the fall. My sod farm said sod during the growing season, but hey if a contractor will guarantee the install then by all means - that's on them. If you had rocks, I'd consider having it prepared professionally. I have no experience with fescues. I can get plain or raleigh st augustine for $185-$225/pallet here in 8a (DFW area). Other species cost ~$225+, more in line with Zoysias etc.
So I paid someone to reseeded two weeks ago and laid down some top soil and I'm having a few bare spots where either the seed washed our or it didn't take for whatever reason. I'm thinking of getting something like this to fill in those spots. Good idea, bad idea??
I forgot to check this but I ended up paying someone to come aerate, over-seed and fertilize. They came today and Greencast says it's 64 degrees, so I should be good. My only concern is whether they did in fact over-seed. Can't really tell and I am very tempted to go buy more and seed again myself. All of the crabgrass had pretty much died off, too, since we've had the few weeks of colder mornings.
you absolutely need to get the seed variety he got if you don't' want different looking species in your lawn. I'd ask your installer. The seed blend (varieties and ratios) should be on the back similar to nutritional facts.
