He seems like the type that’s got more avant-garde to him than you’d imagine. He’s absolutely the hillbilly-hippie type. Like he “just” released an album and I’d be shocked if we get another one before 2022. God, I hope I’m wrong on that one.
I’ve only recently gotten big into Tod. Dude’s history is crazy. Dude dropped out of high school at 14 or 15 and started hopping train cars and doing drugs. Makes Using Again a lot more poignant.
Eh it was about 2 years between his previous one and this one. Probably a similar window depending on how the pandemic throws things off
It’s p funny that if you took all the Tyler banter we’ve had over the years and put it itt itd probably be 20 pages. It’s almost like the ones that care the most have said everything already
Yep. That song and the first track on his new album. He's an awesome songwriter and he's definitely been through some shit
And it’s funny you mentioned this stuff resonates like good hip hop. Totally agree. Go listen to All that I’ve got is You and tell me they’re not the same sort of thing.
CUtigers put me on Tod a couple years back and I thank him for it. That dude writes music from a perspective that needs to be heard.
I suppose I could count the proper release of Live on Red Barn Radio in 2018, which were also phenomenal. I think he’s got quite a bit of unreleased material that’s even been part of his live show. Take My Hounds to Heaven, etc.
There’s a reason why this stuff resonates with me. This take is a Jack from hustle and flow but hip hop is the blues. Americana is probably even a better example of it.
Yeah I wasn't counting his gap between bottles and bibles and purgatory. Purgatory and country squire was ~2 years when he was starting to blow up. Imagine that'll be the pattern
Try this one I’m 100% not a country music fan. I spend more than half my time on this board talking to myself in the hip hop thread. I love Tyler Childers. He’s one of my favorite songwriters ever
There’s a handful of lyrics that I can’t forget. Here’s one example “I count the days and watch as the haze fills his eyes I won’t complain it’s a privilege to live and die”
Idk there's some great stuff on that record. I think I like that one top to bottom better than purgatory
I definitely like Creeker and Matthew a lot and one or two more but I’m not a big fan of the album as a whole. Maybe I’m off base with that thought though and the polish of CS is a better place to start idk
CS is definitely a step back, but I’ll admit, when I first heard “All Your’n” I was underwhelmed. And now? I think it’s a jam.
I’ve alway dug All Your’n and it’s typically something I’d scoff at. I don’t think it’s a bad album by any means I just never revisit but a couple songs. It’s in general not my thing. Everything else he does I press play and ride with once or twice a week.
I have literally no real connection to country music and I use the term “Americana” to separate the stuff I truly enjoy to the shit in country I truly loathe. It’s not an official way to denote genre it’s just something I do to make myself feel better about what I listen to
I just always assumed he was a dipshit making terrible music based on his name and the way he looks. I’ll check it out!
I with your. To be fairrrrr, If i understand correctly, potentially, the intro “Send in the Clowns”, followed by a collection of civil war time era instrumentals provided for quiet reflection, followed by a poignant outro track with a message was no accident. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. It’s a kickass instrumental if nothing else.
Also I think Tyler won the pandemic. Got sober and put out an album of him playing the fiddle with that killer track at the end
I listened with one ear bud in and another on a Zoom meeting so I may have missed it; I’m guilty of being a dumbass here. Also guilty of reading too many fan group posts and poaching ideas ...someone did a good breakdown of the years each of those songs were written. But the Send in the Clowns being on the nose...I didn’t hear that mentioned Specifically but that’s on me if he did. It was a perfect dig, bump set, then spike on his part. Assuming it’s been an album of commentary instead of one masterfully executed track at the end, I’m wondering how that would sound. That he’s getting into the fiddle again is a huge bonus to me. It compliments his sound so well. Either way, dunce cap engaged.
