Normal package with Brees at QB, Taysom Hill package, and Winston to come in and throw the deep ball. Payton stays ahead of the curve.
It’s going to hurt us later in the season when teams start scheming against the Saints to eliminate anything underneath, and balls thrown 15 yards across the field, because that’s all Brees has left at this point. He had that one deep throw to Cook down the sideline, but can he do it consistently? However I don’t think Payton would bench him. They might say he’s “injured” or something so they can play Winston.
I want to see him struggle on deep throws with a clean pocket before I say he's done. The entire offense was just out of sync this week.
I was happy to see Taysom a bit in the 4th quarter. One of my criticisms of the way we use him has been that we mix him in a few times in the first half, but then he disappears in the second.
Shit. Also a concern he tries to come back too early and never lets it fully heal. Hope Sanders can step up. Feed AK41
With the 3 week IR this year, it can't be that bad if the Saints aren't putting him there yet. I hope he's back for the Packers game, he's tough as they come so I'm hoping they haven't put him on IR hoping he can be back for that game.
I also have zero faith in Tre'Quan, could see Harris getting a few more snaps as well. Also, supposedly Brees loved Fowler in camp, not sure if he sees the field more also.
That’s the other issue - Brees’ arm strength. It’s going to hurt us as the season progresses. You gotta have a QB who throw a deep ball.
Thomas is the reason Brees career has been extended. It’s obvious he is the key to the O now. Brees missing him tonight
We look fucking awful. I know no preseason and we are working out the kinks, but this is embarrassing.
Probably just wishful thinking but I wonder if we’ll see a lot of week to week change in team performance across the league
I'm not pressing the panic button yet, we got smoked by the Falcons last year, but we have not looked good the first 2 weeks. I think the D will come around, and our OL will be fine. But Brees' arm strength seems like it has regressed even further. He's averaging less than 5 yards in the air per attempt!! That's laughably low.
We’ve had some slow starts in the past and got on a nice roll as the season progresses. Secondary needs to learn how to defend. It was nice to see Sanders finally remember how to catch a ball
So I think I've been one of the most adamant Brees defenders around here, but shit I think it's true - he can't push the ball down the field. We're having to rely on long drives (outside of freak plays by AK). We've had some shit calls go against us - but I think the main thing for the defense is where the fuck is the pass rush, where is Cam Jordan. If we're not blitzing and leaving DBs on an island then the QB has all day to sit back there. We laid an egg against the Raiders, and Green Bay is a damn good team- we have to get hot and get on a run here quick or it's going to be a long season, followed by a little bit of cap hell coming up.
I’m not ready to quit on him just yet. He’s never had an arm. I thinking he’s psyching himself out. Schedule is about to get easier. Rack up some wins and gain some confidence
I think we'll still be fine, but I don't think we can beat elite teams if we're only able to throw downfield 15-20 yards. Our roster is too good, I can still see us winning 10-12 games. But I don't see us as legit super bowl contenders unless something changes. It's Jameis time.
I think it’s going to take another two games to see what this team is really made of. Everyone was just thrown into the fire with no preseason games to work out the kinks prior to beginning the season. When Brees gets Thomas back, I want to see how he does, but I’m losing patience with the offense. We can’t have a quarterback who can’t throw a deep ball in this offense. I like Jameis, but he is going to make poor decisions. I feel like we could be heading to a 9-7/8-8 season.
We'll be able to beat the bad teams, it's if we get down a couple of scores in the 4th, or even a one-possession game late in the 4th - I'm not sure we can push the ball down the field. We need Davenport back or something to help the pass rush, not having him and Onyemata sucked Sunday.
Some of the calls we definitely earned, and we should probably be in the top few still - but some of those were absolute bullshit.
we can/should go 5-0 or 4-1 in the next 5 games. With Drew's physical limitations we're not a super bowl contender but we should make the playoffs, then when the season is over we start sorting out life after Drew
Could we just start using Latavius Murray more? Put Kamara in as slot? Do we have any true deep threats?
