My friend chucked his 7 iron into a field of 8 foot tall reeds on a par 3 today. Other friend snapped a video of him walking into it field of dreams style to go look for it. came out 15 minutes later empty handed
Is this the normal schedule for overseding? The members don't ever play on the brown conditions do they?
My timeline is full of reactions to this. Pebble sits on what otherwise be probably the most expensive non-urban land in the country. If it wasn't what it is, it would either be an exclusive club or mansions. I think there is room for Pebble to be what it is and still find standard bearers for public golf elsewhere.
Granted, the Old Course in St. Andrews technically has a lottery system where anyone can play it for roughly $215, but even so many Americans book outrageous stay and play packages for guaranteed tee times that equate to roughly $800 for that round of golf nowadays. The UK certainly has a better system than the States when it comes to access, but the prices are still premium. Golf is expensive.
I like how he avoided offering a single suggestion beyond changing the ranking system I guess. Which would not help the underlying problem at all. Courses are closing across the country because they are losing money. There are always going to be special places that can charge premium rates, balanced approaches that can manage great courses at reasonable rates and pastures where you can play for $15 in a tank top with your own cooler. People always point to the lower cost at Bethpage, but that is a publicly owned course which is very different than a corporately owned course.
I think thats the difference. Pebble should be considered a semi private course and not a "Municipal" which is what they make it sound like
It is accessible to everyone. Just stay at the resort and pay the fee. I live in Florida and have lost track of how many people I know that have played there (it’s like crossfit, they have to fucking tell you). I’m fine with calling it a resort course. That’s what it is. But the general public is welcome to play it, with price being the barrier. But that’s true of a lot of things.
Part of me really likes these but not sure if I could actually wear them https://www.nike.com/t/air-zoom-infinity-tour-shield-golf-shoe-wide-rFQfM4/DD8343-124
With rain pants - which are always baggy as shit - I bet they look fine. go .5 up if you get them. I assume they fit the same as the normal infinity.
This that par 3 course you were telling me about? Played The Ocean Course on top tracer today. Amazing how tight those fairways are. Can't imagine how poorly I'd shoot in person!
No. Was rushed to start and then my friend brought someone that would piss me off so he could beat me. I was trying to out drive him by 80 yards on every hole and couldn’t keep it straight. Was 5 up thru 10 and ended up tied. Had lip outs on 17 and 18 that would have won. So pissed.
First time hitting a ball this year. Life circumstances have driven me away from playing for a long time (maybe half a dozen rounds/range sessions combined in 2.5 years) but starting to come out the other side. Ate a gummy, put Fleet Foxes in the earbuds, and started through the bucket. Surprisingly felt solid after the long layoff. I’m sure my game around the greens is rusty as hell. Definitely feels bad knowing my best golf is behind me.
If I had a dollar for every time I've heard this. "How your swing looks is irrelevant. It’s what happens with the golf ball that matters." - George Gankas
