This team has had the same glaring issues for years. Theo and company just tried to blame it on countless batting coaches and Maddon. Different coaches, same (actually worse) shit when it comes to hitting this year.
Hard to do that when the roster isn't turning over. I would imagine we begin to see some changes this offseason and into the following with Bryant, Javy and some others coming up for deals. We also free up money from Lester and Chatwood expiring. With that said some in this thread (not you) need to tap the breaks. This team at times played fantastic baseball. This is a weird, shortened season and they team won the division when nobody predicated it. And very few even had us making a wild card slot. Let's have some faith in this team its on 0-1 and we get the possible cy young winner on the mound tomorrow.
So a few weeks back Javy came out and said he was pissed because MLB won’t allow players to watch replays of ABs. I guess this was in response to the Astros cheating. But I don’t understand why players can’t watch a replay. Someone know exactly what the issue is? Javy seems to be blaming his shit season on not being able to watch ABs back and make adjustments. He’s one of my favorite players but that seems like a red flag
He’s so crazy streaky. That WS run he was basically Babe Ruth. Then he’s a turd monster. The 2H of last season he was great and back to a turd monster this year.
Cubs have 205m committed to salary for the 2020 season. Pre Arb they got about 96m committed next year. They will have some questions in the rotation and Pen but they should have some money to work with. They also got the possible Bryant trade or contract extension.
Pretty sure it was in response to the #BangingScheme but the MLB is a shit show and rolled it into the COVID protocol.
Theo is going to have a big spotlight on his moves this offseason. Don’t think you can justify another season of returning the entire core back.
That last inning could not have been more representative of this season. A guy gets in scoring position and we go down 1-2-3 all striking out. It'll be interesting to see what direction the front office takes the team this offseason. The top of the rotation could be the best 1-2 in baseball and bullpen despite the issues to start the season looks like it could be really good going forward if we can resign Jeffress. I'm not sure what you do for the other 3 rotation spots. Alzolay should get a shot for one and I guess you could get Quintana on a cheap contract if you want. The lineup I have no idea what to do. You could replace 2/3 of it right now and I don't think I'd care at all.
Only guy I’d be really sad to see go is Rizzo. I think he needs to be a Cub lifer. Obviously losing Javy would suck and I love Contreras and his fire but I’m okay with a complete tear down and rebuild at this point. We thought this team would compete for multiple titles and after 2016 they’ve done nothing but let us down and under achieve. A lot of that falls on the lack of development of pitching but when you go in slumps like our lineup does and score 1 run in a 2 game postseason series the brunt of it comes down to the bats and upper management.
As much as I like Willson it might be time to see what you can get for him. Roll with caratini next year and some amaya if he's ready. Just platoon Schwarber at dh as he has no value currently. Move Bryant to lf full time if you think Bote can handle 3rd. Nico should get a full year at 2nd to see what you got. Put abbott or miller in the rotation full time. You wasted a year on abbott who was the 19 minors pitcher of the year for us and now he's 25.
Theo did an amazing job revamping this organization and making it a yearly contender both playoffs and World Series champion. He’s a legend for that. Hoyer gets to lead the retool and next generation of Cubs
Theo should become the new commish of baseball. probably gonna take an expansion team or maybe the Mets
Our booth was fucking fantastic. I listen to other broadcasts and weep for most other fanbases. We had it made. Go get Jason Benetti as a replacement or go say hi to Art Briles
lol Jason is a rockstar if he leaves the Sox it’s for a National gig not the dumpster fire that is Marquee
The only way that this is Casper's choice, and not a demotion, is if hitching to the Sox and ESPN 1000 gets him some national pxp opportunity. ESPN has been laying off people like crazy and their bench for baseball pxp wasn't deep to begin with.
It sounds like his desire to call a World Series was a big factor in this move as he's never going to get to do that for TV.
I’m not sure if he still is, but former Sox player and radio color analyst Chris Singleton was the national ESPN radio guy for awhile.
