He is an over-specialized coach, and when that specialization isn't operating at peak efficiency, the holes in the rest of his program's development are horribly exposed. It's just happening earlier than normal this year because Rattler isn't as good yet as Baker, Kyler or Hurts, but this problem has already been exposed in the last few playoffs.
He doesn't instill quality Midwestern big 8 values in his team. He still has some swc in his blood and not enough milk and farming.
They gave Alex Grinch an $800k raise after what happened against LSU, making him one of CFB’s highest paid coordinators
Damn shame Rattler got indoctrinated in the liberal hot bed of Arizona. I always enjoy scouring the home boards after losses like this but I certainly wasn't expecting something like this.
I fully support their decision to not recruit California and the apparent liberal haven that is Florida. Would be quite the bold strategy.
When I think of when Oklahoma actually played defense I go back to when Roy Williams was out there as a physical headhunter at safety just fucking kids up with no regard for their life and he was born and raised in Okla...oh he was from California, nvm
I love how when any midwest program is having issues it’s because they don’t recruit enough home grown talent. Like by the coaches recruiting California and Florida, they are just missing out on a team full of 5 star local farm boys
"Everything that ever goes wrong is the fault of my political opposition." That seems pretty on point with a lot of people in this country.
fyi Oklahoma has a whopping 12 kids combined from Fla/Cali on their 2020 roster. There are more kids on the roster just from OKC and Tulsa which iirc are located within the state borders of Oklahoma.
I just checked a map and can confirm that Oklahoma City is indeed located within the state of Oklahoma. Still researching Tulsa.
Understood, I know they’re too busy indoctrinating y’all with those libtard brain-washing machines to teach geography.
Its damn near impossible to a build a legit defense given his style of offense and the style of offenses in the conference. Its just awful for defensive player development, there's a reason why the big 12 has just been horrific at producing nfl defensive talent in the last 5-10 years.
I think the problem is worse than that; they’re also soft on both lines and can’t really run even against mediocre teams. It’s like their practices are just three hours of pass skel
Thats sort of what I am getting at, the entire league is setup to protect the ol(quick passing games, wide sets, 95%+ of the time in the shotgun, never play with hand on the ground, super mobile qbs) so its really bad ol play for the most part(ou has been good here though) which impacts front 7 development.
I love Nd going back to it. Use your oline. That is your strenght. Do not try to follow the current style.. Play your game. i am old
It is(big 12 is way ahead of all other power 5 conferences when it comes to offensive scheme) but in other leagues teams are at least prepping for and playing against more traditional offenses that emphasis power and the ol. Obviously its not 100% of the problem but I think its a bring reason why schools like Texas and OU can't produce good defenses and more nfl players.
Oklahoma has captured its first outright "first top ten team with two losses" title since 2009, though they also claimed a split title in 2016.
