Don't think it's scheme as much as talent. Teams in the SEC will get bulldozed by the talent of teams like Bama, LSU and UGA if they don't emphasize that shit. OU has no one on its level it needs to fear in terms of talent in the Big 12, and even they aren't recruiting at the level of the elite SEC powers and OSU. All they have to do it win shootouts during the regular season, and they play like they know it.
I'd lean more towards recruiting and coaching as failing to get and develop defensive talent, regardless of schemes
To be fair, his bro was a qb coach at our dumpster fire of a team So by the transitive property, he's an absolute fucking moron
While not lsu, uga, osu, clemson or bama, OU and Texas have recruited int he next tier. They have cycled through a ton of defensive coaches that had big reps coming in and several who have been successful since too (Brent vendables). Schools like auburn, washington, Ole miss, BC, Wisconsin, Mississippi state, Miami, Florida, Michigan, Iowa, Penn State have all fielded several really good defenses and produced more or equal defensive nfl talent and they all recruit at a worse or equal level to UT and OU. It goes beyond coaching and recruiting, either theres just flat out lack of emphasis on it (like you said ou knows they can win the league with shootouts) or theres a clear tradeoff between having that offensive style and defensive player development.
I feel so sorry for OSU fans for that one year your defense wasn't amazing and you had to finish 13-1. Definitely makes you guys following OU around and talking about your old DC in these threads several years later less weird.
This is dumb. Oregon had a top 10 defense during the height of the Chip Kelly offense era in 2010, 2011, 2012. Oregon churned out way more defensive NFLers than offensive ones during those days too.
Oregon ran a spread, the Pac 12 offenses they faced were nothing like the air raid systems that exist in the big 12.
Are you for real? The PAC 12 had the two most notable air raid offenses in the country during that time.
2 out of 12 teams, when all your defense is seeing every week is pass heavy spreads/air raids because that's your teams offense and all your scout team runs because thats what all your opponents run I think it creates defensive player development issues. Like I said it goes beyond coaching and recruiting because ut and ou have recruited plenty good enough and cycled through plenty of good defensive coaches.
But all the teams in the Big 12 don’t run the air raid. Plenty of passing teams yes but not all air raid.
It’s hard for me to imagine doing two things after looking at that: 1: thinking, “fucking nailed it...” 2: I should take a picture of it and share it with the world.
As someone that has met Alabama fans that went to Auburn and vice versa I support this (they are the wooooooorst) #Alabama Crimson Tide #Auburn Tigers
I knew a few that still rooted for UGA. The worst were the Bama fan parents of kids that went to Auburn. One buddy of mine was a real bad drunk and liked drugs waaaay to much. Sidewalk Parents of course blamed it on Auburn....that would never happen at Bama. So he got put in the hospital one night our Sophomore year & his parents pulled him out of school after that. Transfer him to Bama b/c no one parties there He was in rehab pretty quickly after that. Eventually got his shit together and graduated from UAB, so good for him.
