It was 7 am and 55 degrees, so I was by myself, but apparently that included any fish bigger than a sardine.

    Encounter.

First fly rod so I wanted something on the cheaper side in case I didn't stick with it.

Very happy with it so far, but I have nothing to compare it to.

We captured a snail bullhead yesterday that was in the process of eating a much smaller madtom. After putting them in the bucket, the bullhead eventually gave up (the madtom’s spines were locked in the bullhead’s mouth to the point where I thought both were goners) and both wound up swimming off little worse for the wear, though the madtom was obviously a bit ragged. Kicking myself for not getting pics/vids of that.

Crazy. We were upstream of there on Friday. Was hoping to take Thursday off to go fishing, so I guess I'll see what it's like on Wednesday. Was going to hike up into the wild section at Burrell's Ford.

Yeah, I just put a depth finder and anchor trolly in my yak. Gonna try for some bull reds during this mullet run. Learned how to throw a cast net finally and can throw it from the yak. Have only caught catfish so far on the mullet.

We usually head north of Steamboat into the Zirkel Wilderness for a day but that’s right between 2 fires. Headed south and west into the Flattops instead. 9000 feet of elevation, spooky as shit fish, and I’m out of shape, but the wheezing was worth it for ridiculous beauty and buttery browns.

What kind fo waders do you guys use for streams/rivers? I have more Simms saltwater stuff than I need, but Im heading to mess around with some brown trout and that stuff would be overkill. Looks relatively shallow - do you just use hip waders?

Right now I just wet wade with wool or neoprene socks. Looking at waders currently, trying to decide what price range for them though.

I have only used chest waders. right now I am using the Redington Sonic Pro waders, they go for about $250 online. If you don't plan to use them but a couple times a year, you could go for the Redington Crosswater or Cabela's brand for around $100. I was going to suggest checking out Frogg Toggs but they really increased their prices since I got some a few years ago.

I use the Orvis Ultralight for Middle Tennessee rivers. They are convertible hip to chest which comes in handy fishing tailwater.

If it’s summer it’s a pair of old sneakers.

I got a pair for wade fishing barrier islands in the winter 4 years ago from Magellan at Academy for less than $100 and the should strap broke on the 4th time I used them when I tried to take them off at a funny angle. I wouldn't go cheap on waders.

Hiked up into the wild section of the Chattooga. Didn't get much, which I was surprised at. Also bushwacked into King Creek to try and catch brookies, but it was too overcrowded except for one small spot. Had a little one come up to take a look at a dry, but nothing else. Will try the Chattooga again next week.
