This marks a tremendous shift in the betting odds on the next barstool employee to drop a racial slur on video.
Whether you like Kmarko or not, if his departure is in any way related to Minihane's shit, then it's a really bad look.
From listening to the Pod with Dave and Eddie, it sounds like Dave hasn’t been happy with the blog side of things. Whether it’s what gets published on the blog, the amount some people are putting out, or who is blogging certain topics (he mentioned having the right bloggers handle certain things). So that’s why they wanted to give Coley a shot because he’s more likely to be able to communicate with the bloggers and get them going if needed. Sounds like Kmarco was more relaxed.
Nope. If I remember right when Eddie asked how Kmarko felt Dave said he wasn’t sure if he even knew yet. I think Dave mentioned him as one of the original four and he’s got his back though, so it didn’t sound like he’s bailing or anything. Might just go back to strictly blogging.
I didn’t dive into it much when it happened, but Dave just mentioned something about KFC not getting “his money” from the Penn deal for another 3ish years.
Apparently frank asked for a ridiculous salary and the negotiations were not easy so a) what did you think he originally asked for and b) what do you think they’re paying him
I think most guys had lock out periods of 5 years. IIRC only Dan and Erica has major liquidity events. I bet Frank asked for $150k and they are paying him $80k
Brandon being like i won’t talk to him, can’t wait for the first day he’s in the office and big cat makes Brandon introduce him to the yak group
I really only pay attention to select people at Barstool, so I never understood the hate I’d see for Kmarko on Reddit (since I never saw anything he did)...but between that lame drink book, this blog, and some of the texts/emails sent to employees this guy just comes off as a giant douche. Maybe a little extreme but from what I’ve seen he’s probably lucky he’s an original guy.
He comes across as pretentious dick. Obviously who knows what he is really like in person, but the internet persona he created for himself sucks. He is trying to play a Van Wilder character but he’s not funny so it makes him look like an asshole.
Using a picture to try and make fun of coley and then an entire blog bragging about his accomplishments. Yikes
I think based off of text conversations posted by him and coworkers we can assume it’s not really a schtick
Kmarko seemed wildly unqualified for the job. Coley seems wildly unqualified for the job. Job seems hard.
Did anyone read Kmarko’s post about it? Some observations: 1. The lead photo of “editor in chief” and the description he points out by saying it’s a handsome Caucasian bearded man wearing glasses - so he wants to create a perception it’s him. 2. He uses the most unbecoming photo of Coley. Quotes - “I launched barstool in New York and run it single-handily.” “I led all bloggers in page views and engagement.” “I taught myself Google analytics.” “I became a point person, a manger.” He then says he wanted people to feel comfortable to come talk to him, but later says he didn’t give a shit what anyone thought of him. LOL Here’s the quote that answers everything: “While I thought 11 years of loyalty and hard work would earn a professional conversation ...” Bottom line and my point of view: This guy is the most insecure pretender, who wants to be something that he’s not. The entire blog is piss show of how upset he is, and pretty much saying “I built this place and here are qualifications to show it.” Or better yet, the blog is one giant CV. He can’t be upset with the way the company handled it. That’s for par for course.
