I don’t want to do anything that’s going to mess up our money to get Giannis. Him with this core is going to be scary as hell
I’m interested in seeing if Okpala takes a jump and sees more time next season. And think Gabe gets involved more. But I’m also interested in trading anyone not named Butler, herro or Bam for Giannis
he gives them another season that means he turned down the extension offer, that would be excellent news for us
This. Make no mistake, Giannis is making his decision this offseason. If he refuses to sign his extension, he’s leaving at the end of next season. Think Anthony Davis last year. Told NO he wasn’t extending so they traded him. the secondary sign is if Bam doesn’t extend this offseason.
Kinda obsessed with the idea of Melo as a Jae replacement if he cashes out somewhere else. There’s definitely a drop off defensively particularly on the perimeter, but the melo we saw this year was active as hell and is still a big body who can bang in the post. He rebounds like a 4 too and can still give a lot offensively, particularly when he’s not asked too do much.
Oh absolutely. I’m just thinking this coming season. And I’m still on the Giannis train obviously. No turning back now
Why would this happen? So Bam can take less money on his first big contract so we can bring someone else in? Won't, and shouldn't, happen. Bam deserves his money.
he still gets his money. But his cap hold will be a lot less then his max contract. So by waiting to sign, Riley has more cap room to play with next year while Bam still gets the exact same contract. It's simply an order or operations thing.
Sign him to a nice one-year deal to hold the roster serve for a year and not to tie up any Giannis money would seem like the best route to go.
This article makes the same mistake Fusiontegra did. There’s no benefit to giving Bam his extension now. He’s a RFA and the Heat will 100% max him. Doesn’t matter if it’s today or next offseason.
It does if he feels disrespected. In which case he can just sign a 2+1 or 3+1 max with another team which Miami will then max. See e.g. Gordon Heyward or Kawhi Leonard.
I'd be interested to hear Pat talk candidly about how his approach has changed after how he reacted to Lebron leaving and then how he handled Wade going to Chicago.
There’s nothing to disrespect him with. Here’s the convo. “Bam, you getting a max. If you sign it in the summer, we have more space to bring in a max guy. the only risk is Bam getting hurt. But you’d think he’s elite enough that anything other than career ending still gets him his max.
I don't feel worried about Bam. But what the fuck do I know.. we'll be coming back to this page next year with my shit takes lol But I stay the conductor of the Giannis train. It is fucking happening. At some point
You mean right after he just got hurt. Would you personally be cool with that deal and the risk involved? Not saying he won't agree to it behind closed doors, but even if he's okay with it now, after seeing his draft mates get maxes, he might not be.
I just don’t see Bam trying to rush to sign a deal this off-season unless he knows Giannis ain’t comin, since the Heat can match anything he does so no point in poison pilling the heat and creating bad blood. Sharing agents with Giannis is like when Wade and Bosh shared agents they all knew what the play was.
Not poison pilling to take the max for less years to become a free agent sooner. Just the norm for max level players that aren't signed early. Wouldn't call it rushing either. This is when players that are worth an extension sign. Especially with a chance that the cap goes down next year, would make more sense to lock in now.
Looking at mock drafts and honestly like 4 players, I want a PG at 1.20. Jones or Maxey. Also, I'd love to have Ibaka. And Malik Beasley, not because I'm a homer but I'm being a homer, he plays D and shoots relatively well. Great for the second unit!
