Airlines are saying they aren’t expecting to return to pre-pandemic travel volume until 2024, so despite their best efforts to convince people it’s safe to fly, the reality is that it’s going to fucking brutal for years.
Lots of experts in this thread the last few pages. Seems mostly to be justifying their own behavior or believing that inconveniences to them aren’t justified.
Safety plus other factors: Businesses realize they don’t need as much travel People are unemployed and have less travel money Uncertainty around “luxury” expenditures Choosing to upgrade their homes (due to amount of time spent there)
Totally agree on businesses realizing that you don’t need to get on a flight for a 1 hour meeting and fly back
We’re budgeting our T&E in 2021 at 1/2 of 2019. That’s going to be the new baseline. I can’t tell you how many sales guys (who used to complain about how much their job is under appreciated because they are on the road all the time) are complaining about not getting the points/ status/ etc.
A tad sensationalist of a headline when per the same article the “strict new rules” potentially being proposed aren’t even rules but rather recommendations like trying to avoid public transit or sitting at restaurants late at night.
Office tourism baby. Folks love them some good ol’ office tourism. On that note, office tourism is going to become somewhat a thing of the past post COVID. The pandemic has proven that most people’s reasons for traveling were marginal at best. Remote options work well enough for most, but not all, cases.
Probably covered, buy the in-home pool industry exploded this year. When you can't leave, build a pool.
It’s not just private companies slashing travel. Our business is primarily funded by state and federal contracts, and our travel time pay was just slashed in half. While there is a financial rationale, the justification we were given is that it’s not needed and will reduce risk.

I've seen people argue that he's either giving up, he's playing some sort of 4d chess or he's trying to cover up stuff or etc. Simple truth is that he's just fucking crazy. I can't wait for him to be asked about this at the next debate so he can fly off the handle and tell hundreds of thousands of families that what they experienced didn't actually happen.
It's prob like anything else in that he's jealous of the "favorable" coverage Fauci gets. Can't have someone look better than him but it's an even worse idea for him to fire him.
Interacted with someone Friday and Saturday who tested negative on Thursday but positive this morning. No symptoms but wanted to get tested again as a precaution due to upcoming birth of child. Going to retest tomorrow in hopes of false positive. I'm now quarantining. How long should I wait before getting tested? pperc
I wish. Went to an event I was obligated to attend and felt terribly uncomfortable at all along. Just hoping I got lucky somehow. Managed to not get it when my wife did back in May but who knows why or how.
Thank God Trump was there to save 600k of our countrymen from that raving psychopath Fauci. I'd love to hear the mitigation suggestions put forth by Fauci and rejected by Trump that if implemented, would have resulted in a death count 4x higher than our current one. It's like he's writing the oppositional questions for the next debate on twitter in realtime.
sent a screenshot of that to my buddy and his reply was “omg that’s a real tweet” where ya been all this time, fella
Guess who is going back to the office in two weeks despite having zero drop in departmental output. Such fantastic news. Did this once already in May, that lasted a month. I’ll bet it won’t even be that long this time.
Working from home has taught me to only focus on “big” projects instead of what i overhear and think might be important. I’ll be keeping that if/when we return to the office.
