At a restaurant with a wine friend last weekend and he ordered a 16 Caymus. Said it seemed corked and sent it back. They brought another bottle of the same thing and he said it tasted different than the first bottle but still not very good so he sent that one back as well and we just chose a different wine. Very weird. Only sent back one bottle in my life.
I think I had a couple hundred bottles to start without one. I’ve had 3 this year. A couple last year. Probably 10 in my life. My theory is I’m much more sensitive to it now than I was 10-15 years ago when I was getting in to drinking wine. My wife didn’t notice it was corked last night but I opened a second bottle of the same wine and she agreed the second was much different and better.
Has anyone(East of the Mississippi) experienced extreme delays in shipments vis Fedex? Not too happy they decided to ship in the first place(CA temps where 90+) but now it is just sitting in Nashville.
Pretty crazy deal on this. From Groupon. Qupe Bien Naciendo Estate Syrah. I got 2 cases as it retails for $45 on their website and via groupon, with free shipping, it is well under $10. This would make a great gift as it is from a great producer. If you want to use my refferal that would be cool. https://www.groupon.com/visitor_referral/h/589941eb-7f08-4b33-9727-8d5088844c1a https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-qu...l_option=3fd3a793-8d98-46ba-b73a-1d7386a82837 https://www.qupe.com/2016-bien-nacido-syrah-hillside-estate-santa-maria-valley
Bien Nacido is an elite vineyard but I think $45 is an inflated price point for Qupe. Less than $10 is a bargain though.
Nothing like being woken up at 3 in the morning to a shelf breaking in my daughters closet and 7 bottles of wine shattering all over the floor. Didn’t get to sleep until 6am. My fault for probably putting too much on the shelf, but what a nightmare. Fucking NY apartments. Goodbye rug too.
Hello I’m new here. Is there a post with recs for new wine drinkers? I’d like to keep at least a few bottles at home for nights I don’t feel like drinking bourbon. The wife likes Pinot noir but used to buy the cheap shit like Barefoot. TIA
Just grabbed 6btls of the Qupe to go with a handful or two of mags I bought in Jan. when they were running a clearance through K&L. Fucking awesome wines.
Never been a wine drinker but spent the week with the wife and bro/sis in law in Finger Lakes New York hitting up wineries. This region is not known for their reds so I'm addicted to rieslings now I guess.
Missed the window on the Caymus. Was a bit stiff. Still pretty good but definitely has moved past its prime. Moved on to this.
Didn’t notice this was a 2015. The small tasting I just did was fantastic. Still needs some more time though
I’m sorry about the wine and rug. It is too late now but I highly recommend having Wine Away on hand for cleaning red wine spills. It is an amazing product.
Mixing hydrogen peroxide and dawn dish soap together and applying will take care of any red wine stain
when your finding out what you like, why go over $20 a bottle. What they should be looking for is the %grape over marketing
the better QPR for me is in the 20-30 range. Martin Ray Sonoma Coast is good, widely available and around 20/bottle Ken Wright Willamette Valley is around $25 regions I’ve focused on are Sonoma Coast/Russian River Valley/Anderson Valley/Sta. Rita Hills in California
How does everyone store a red once it has been opened? I have read a lot of different theories but curious what yall do?
Suck out air with Vacu-Vin. Return to 55 degrees. Anecdotally it probably gives an extra day versus just putting the cork back in.
I had a girl spill the largest glass of wine I’ve ever seen from right below my bow tie to my socks at a black tie wedding. I was so covered in wine that my wife joked that I looked like Jackie O. But, wine away got it out even after it had dried.
I did bite on the last bottle mystery pack of Cali Cab. I need more (especially young) like a hole in the head, but I can’t seem to not buy these things. Spoiler MYSTERY CASE #2 is mostly NAPA CABERNET TO THE MAX -- trust your hyperactive Napa Valley wine merchant, you will be BLOWN AWAY by this one! Some hints: $645 retail. Today? Carve off $345 and pay $50 a bottle. Pure MADNESS - there are wines in this case that sell for well over $100!! NAME-DROPPING alert!! We’ve got a wine from mega-scoring rockstar Mike Smith, a wine from 100-point winemaker Tim Milos, plus Dave Phinney….Denis Malbec, too! Even a cool new Araujo family project in there...maybe…? YES!!
I almost pulled the trigger but I have a case of de negose #49, a case from their marathon ready to ship and should be getting a case from viticole next week. We now have a storage problem in our tiny wine cooler. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands for wine coolers to look at.
no personal experience but I hear Euro Cave and Le Cache are the best but $$$$. Can sometimes find used on Craigslist. Just my opinion. I think unless you’re going to go top of the line, then I would recommend Offsite storage. This also depends on the wine you’re storing and how long you want to store specific bottles. At my offsite the lowest option is 10 cases.
