They put great at bats together the whole series. Didn’t give anything away. We were just up there hacking with no patience.
They went in from game 1 with the intention of dragging out at bats against a thin staff knowing it would pay off in a long series and it did.
Some overall, hindsight is 20/20 thoughts: - Wish TdA had gotten a break. Flowers was fresh, and TdA became a shell of his NLDS self. He got progressively worse as the series went on it seems. I wonder if a day or 2 break from catching would have maybe gotten his bat rejuvenated. -7 total runs in the last 3 games. Think it's safe to say that the offense was the real issue this series. - Bad babip, and great Dodger defense. Why did the Red Sox trade away Mookie? Hate that the Dodgers got him. - I hope we use the offseason to work on going deep into counts. We didn't run any pitch counts up, and to repeat what they said on ABT, it felt like we were the football offense that goes out to try and give the tired defense a rest, but continues to go 3 and out every series. - They killed us with 2 strikes. Plate discipline man. They clearly work on it, because even their bottom of the order guys have more than everyone on our team. - Team looked gassed, and injured. What could have been with a healthy Duvy, Soroka, Freddie, Ronnie, and even Hamels? - This should be a fun offseason. To improve we have to keep as many pieces of the bullpen as possible, and can't just lose a bat like Ozuna without making a move to replace it. - How are we so bad at baserunning all of the sudden? 2 enormous blunders between last night and faux tag by Ozuna. - Does Newk come back as a RP? He's awesome in that role. At this point, HE should want to be an RP, because he's going to kill his career after another season like this one. - Wouldn't it be great if we get both Ozuna and Bauer next year? I'd like our chances with those 2. - If we do make moves, our biggest 3 trade pieces are now Waters, Bryse, and Wright, correct? Pretty sure Bryse just went from a low value trade piece to a high value one with his start the other night. Assuming we have to give up 2, who would you pick if we made a trade?
Nah. Just look at Rays/Astros game 7. Putting your players in the best position to succeed wins game 7s. That is a result of great coaching and roster management. Rays have it, Braves don't.
Looking at the payroll for next year we’ve got about $65-75 mil on the books (with arbitration estimates and O’Day’s option) and every significant contributor coming back but Ozuna, Melancon, Greene, Flowers, and Markakis. Would think they could get to at least the $150-160 mil range next season. Spend some fucking money, Liberty. Definitely need a big lefty bat somewhere, would love to bring back Ozuna, solidify the back end, and maybe add a high end starter. Right now we’ve got something this on the 40 man for a total of 30-31 spots depending on Folty. Not sure who might need to be added this offseason for Rule 5 protection but I’d think there’s a good chance Waters and others could end up on here and Ender could be off. SP: Fried Soroka Anderson Wilson Wright Ynoa Touki Folty? De La Cruz RP: Martin Matzek Smith Minter Webb O’Day Newcomb Pfeiffer Sobotka Walker Weigel C: D’Arnaud Contreras Jackson IF: Freeman Ozzie Dansby Riley Camargo OF: Ronnie Duvall Pache Ender
On another note, no one is allowed to complain about the 162 game schedule ever again. It feels like I blinked and this season was over
I felt he should have bunted too but we still would have had 2nd and 3rd 1 out of Dansby had stayed put
Nah, Liberty will expect us to make it back to the playoffs with the same or lesser payroll. It's about the bottom dollar.
If we squeeze games how much are squeezing profitability and does that turn some of these already ridiculous player contracts upside down? Honest question and just musing. For the longevity of player health I could get behind a smaller number of games with more off days (like 150, because I’m selfish).
If anything we need to go to 180 games for at least the next six years so these poor owners can get their games back
Obviously he’s better than not playing, but his inability to cut down his swing to try and just get on base hurt us. He had at least 2-3 swings that series that are usually gone but he just didn’t have the power with that wrist. Caused him to make more weak contact in the air sadly. And I know that’s easier said that done but it just speaks to our one outcome approach at the plate outside of Freddie.
It's crazy how clear it is when he's hurt. He plays hard. Get that man some milk in the offseason (plus good roids) to strengthen the bones
Wrists are weird. For some guys, regular swings hurt less than altered swings, even if the results don’t match from those normal swings. Hard to know what the deal was for Ron without more info on the wrist.
ya'll are crazy if you think Liberty is spending $150 mill this off season. There's virtually no chance.
What happens to mix it up? Does he take it with him? Do we steal it? Is it dead forever? If we had won a WS, I would've been mixing it up in every professional setting possible.
After letting Donaldson go and striking gold with Ozuna, I'm going to be so fucking pissed if Liberty thinks they can do the same thing a third time. I know we can't resign everyone that was good for us who can become free agents, but Ozuna would be amazing to keep if the DH stays.
I don’t know why some of you are letting yourselves get your hopes up. There is no way we re-sign Bug.

Stop freaking out. There’s no NBA season any time soon and baseball is on a five month break Why the fuck would anyone pay to have the RSNs right now anyway
Whoever the hell we sign better be a lot of fun because JD and Bug have been a blast the last two seasons.
Is there a chance that the NL owners don’t want it? Pitchers don’t get paid less for not batting, and each NL team ends up paying more for a DH??
