The wild turkey Kentucky spirit it really good. May be the wrong price compared to rare breed and Russell’s 10 yr, but it’s got a great flavor

This Single Oak Project better be damn good. Didn’t realize it’s only a 375ml bottle. It did come with a piece of the stave, so that’s pretty cool.

    grabbed ECBP B520 too.

North Carolina sucks and holds almost all of it for lotteries.

And that's in the best case. In some counties the board members just keep it all (whether for themselves or favors).

Maybe it’s my libertarian leanings, but get the government out of trying to orchestrate the whole fucking thing.

Let the distillers decide, or pass the decision down to their distributors (yuck.)

My first suggestion would be to give all allocations from all distillers directly to me so that I can fairly and equitably distribute the remaining bottles to the proletariat.

My opinion is the lottery system is a decent way to allocate anything that would otherwise be in extremely high demand. I don’t like the system gaming and having to stand outside doors in COVID to get the rare bottles as they hit the store. I also personally don’t like that being buddy buddy with a shop owner gets you special treatment and the ability to personally allocate if you are shop owner. I understand the benefit to them with loyal customers etc. but I think it seems wrong.

TLDR team state lottery for high demand bottles even though I never win

Sazerac has sold so much Platinum 7X, Benchmark, and Wheatley on account of tying allocations to other line’s sales that it’ll never change in non-control states.

yeah, that's a horrible idea. the distributors are evil mother fuckers. that's why you have to buy 1000 cases of fireball to get any allocation and that's why stores have to mark up the good bottles to levels that make you want to burn them down.

I think the lottery is probably the best, but I think the online one is too convenient/easy for someone to get a bunch of entries from friends. If they made you go to a liquor store to sign up, I bet they could cut the number of entries way down.

I also like a few of the liquor stores around me who have signs up that they randomly set out their allocated bottles, so it has to be right place/right time. There is no perfect answer, but I don't mind that one.

pick up in person, tie it to your state ID, can't pick up for someone else. if you get friends/family to sign up, so be it. everyone gets an entry.

What you’re describing here I assumed was from the distillers, not distributors.

    Yeah, nah.

No, the distillers have very little say, if any. Distributors and some store owners are where the problems lie.

Saw where Knob Creek 12 year cask strength is starting to hit retailers. Not sure on MSRP but I've seen it priced at $90. Guessing that's the end of the 12-15 year store picks.

That's almost exactly where I'd question it... but probably still buy it if they raised it to that universally across the country.

Just my first time seeing the C920.

I can generally find it at the rural store I frequent for $60.

Yeah that's a no brainer for me at 60 and while I usually can't find it on the regular, I can find it enough with other people and in my non-covid travels to keep it in stock. When it pushes 80 I'd have to question.

I did. Only good price change I noticed was they took EC Rye down to $25.

Barret Parkway had one BH10 for... I forget now, but I think it was $78. Not a bottle I’m interested in. They’ve got a Calumet 14, but they’ve priced it ridiculously at $160 if I recall correctly.

If you're ever in the Triangle the Durham stores have had some lately (the A and B batches anyway)

One of my friends has had a lot of good luck in Durham stores, I live over by State and don't get out to Durham often, but it's not like it's a far drive or anything. Any store there particular worth stopping by?

The new store on Roxboro St is one of the biggest ABC stores I've seen in NC. When I was in there a few weeks back, they had both A and B ECBP, several Makers Mark Picks, 3 different regular EC barrel picks, a 7 year MGP rye pick from Barrel, a Woodinville cask strength pick and just an overall better selection than any Wake County store I've been to. I go to the one on 55 more often because it's closer but again, a better selection than any Cary or Apex location.

Surprisingly, Angier ABC is also a great store and gets a lot more picks than Wake County. Raleigh Bourbon and Banter always sends their picks to Durham or Angier so Wake must to hard to work with or something.

For some reason I thought you were in Onslow County but I may have been thinking of someone else.
