350 mile range isn't bad. Price point blows though. $110k to get the 350 mile battery is dumb. $80k only gets you 250 miles. Reservations are full on the top trim level. Curious how many they made available.

Seems like we are still 3-5 years away from a huge market of electric vehicles. It’s frustrating seeing all these cool looking cars then see they are 2-5 years out from production and start with their high end ones first.

I pay my car off in 5 months and would really like to go electric in a year or two. Not sure what I would go with though.

The price sucks for the distance.

But I actually like the design of the truck

My wife's care is paid off & I'm driving her old 2008 IS. I hate car payments. I really want an EV, but don't drive much at all to make it worth the extra cost. I'm at like 5,000 miles a year.

I'll probably take my wife's RX and she'll get something new eventually after badgering me for a year or two.

Agree. They need to be like $60-90k instead of $80-110k.

Is this just the general electric vehicle thread now? I just bought a 2019 Chevy Bolt the other day, need to still get a new 240v oulet and circuit installed in the garage but I'm pretty excited. 2020 model was has more range but it's a lot more expensive currently, the 2019 was $26k and has a 238mi range give or take driving conditions.

This was first car I ever bought. I drove the car my parents got me in HS for 12 years. So I bought brand new in Feb 2016 and I’ve almost 130k miles on it. I like the idea of saving the payment for a little while, but know I’ll have a hankering for something “new”. Which will either be a slightly used something or and EV if it seems right.

I log all my gas (give or take a couple times) and I’ve spent almost $14k on gas with this car.

My 2010 has 150. Meanwhile my wife's 2003 that she's had since 2003 has 80k. It had 60k when we first met and she still had an old sentra as a daily driver. The sentra died 2 years ago and she's just now replacing it.

Yea it seems like all the late starters are getting close to getting into the game now. Tesla may still have the best one but it's good to see new options available outside of their 3-4 models. The selection was too limited for the EV segment to get too big. That's about to change.

Once there starts to be actual SUV and trucks out there, the game is changed. Those consumers are the late adopters and if they are on board then whew boy... this is about to pop off.

That and an expanded charging network. It's just a matter of time at this point. I mean when Jeep is making an electric Wrangler, it's clear the direction things are going.

Nah I don’t feel like I travel a lot for work, but I guess a couple few hundred mile trips every other month adds up. I’ve got 70miles round trip to work each day the last 3 years. Then I go to most Football games, home & away.

edit: hadn’t really thought about how I have so many miles, but 3 years of 70/day x 5 days a week is 54,600.

Yea, a daily 70 mile commute is a hell of a commute.

I’ve predicted that ICE cars will be dead or mostly dead within 5 years. At some point soon the price of entry, plus maintenance, plus all the factors are going to just be too much for almost everyone not to convert.

actually watched a pretty interesting video recently with a bit of a deep dive into Fords financials and the prediction was they would be bankrupt within 4 years.

Lack of oil changes, belts, fluids and maintenance in general is why I wanna go full electric more so than lack of gas (even tho that’s a big factor too)

I doubt it's the time involved, probably moreso the cost. An oil change is around $60. A problem with a belt is likely to run a couple hundred dollars. Cut out those costs and it starts to add up.

It's this. The maintenance costs of an electric vehicle to an ICE vehicle are a fraction. You've got tires and brakes and that's about it. With an ICE you've got regular oil changes, battery, Tires and brakes, fluid exchanges etc.. Even things like what I'm dealing with this month. My Pilot is just getting past 100k miles so I'll need to put a new timing belt on it before it snaps and that'll be somewhere from $700 to $900 to do. It's not like the maintenance cost savings will completely offset the higher cost of an EV but it definitely helps.

very accurate and also the transmission blew in the first 8,000 miles and it was one of their first tiptronic ones and was a $13,000 repair which was luckily still under warranty

Must have gotten lucky with mine. Car before the Tesla was a 2011 Audi Q7 Diesel. Only problem I had with it was the blower motor going out. I'm sure the dealership would have charged an arm and a leg but I just did it myself. Was like a hour of time and $100 for the part.
You don't even really have brakes as a maintenance cost. With regenerative braking you barely have to use the brake pedal. I'm sure the pads will need to be replaced at some point but it's going to be a while.

you cant keep harping on singular things, the point is the totality of all things

I currently have a sonata hybrid and the front grill has a motor to open and close it when it's using electric vs gas. That motor died and it's a $2300 repair. Again, luckily covered within the 100k warranty for hybrid parts. The repair took 7 days and had a rental for that time but it's just another thing I have to deal with.

And they design the shit to make sure only they can work on it. Tried getting oil changes at smaller corner oil places and none of them could reach the filter to change it.

    Was so annoying.

Paying premium gas prices and costly repairs made me go to a hybrid. Seeing some of the costly repairs exist in the hybrid is what is making me go full EV, plus random gas price hikes, while I know aren't a lot of money just annoy the ever living shit out of me
