the rumor is that he was waiting for doc to retire to get the NBC job but that’s a lot more travel than even a team guy/part time NBC guy has. Tampa bay is a good team with a great organization but for a veteran announcer, the opportunity to live in Tampa is also incredibly appealing.
What are they saying here? They didn’t really commit to winning or did they say they’re in a full rebuild mode.
They said they’re gonna suck for the next 5 years so bear with us and hopefully some of the young talent is exciting enough to see in person.
blackhawks deserve some credit for finally realizing they don't have a team that can compete. Too bad that they have a bunch of real bad money that they won't be able to move.
I hope they suck for another 50 years and all the 'lifelong' Hawks fans that popped up go back to the shantytowns from whence they came.
I want the Hawks to do what Detroit did and be unconscionably bad and then get a bunch of top 3 picks.
It’s funny because despite how bad Detroit has been they haven’t had a top 3 draft pick in over 30 years.
Stan on a apology tour for handing out dog shit contracts and now being forced into a holding pattern of hell
What’s the fucking point of putting Matthews in organization rankings, he’s well into his 2nd contract
I would argue he wouldn't need to make the trades he did had he not handing out deals like the one Seabrook is currently on. At one point in another inview he pointed out how rare it is for a team to have a core 5 of 6 players to play 10+ years together... well yeah that will happen when you overpay or pay for down side.... Most smart franchises wouldn't do that.
sergachev in there is dumb also. Should be a 100 game cutoff. Far too many guys aren’t prospects on that list.
They were always going to have to make trades. The problem is instead of getting prospects and picks they were always trading for players like anisamov, Shaw, Murphy, saad, etc
I would hate to win so many cups in a certain timeframe that my team never gets a top 3 pick. That would be terrible.
Minnesota has only had a top 3 pick once in their history, and it was before the inaugural season in 2000. We have one trip to the conference finals (and got swept in them) to show for it. We are fantastic at being the 7th best team in the Western Conference on a yearly basis, though.
Yeah, that sucks. Though I think you have a solid shot this year. That roster, and the recent moves...
I don't expect to be good, but I think the top 4 D are too strong to allow the team to go completely in the tank. Think we end up in a similar spot to last year, with a pick in the 7-12 range or so.
Cap circumventing contracts eventually bite a team in the ass unless you can find a LTIR reason to get rid of it. This was always the price the blackhawks were going to pay for that decade of dominance.
No team has given out more bad contracts than the Rangers. They’ve had to buy out Richards, Girardi, Spooner, Shattenkirk, and Lundquist. Plus paying Staal over 5 mill a year and then trading him for nothing and paying Brendan Smith over 4 mill a year. This Trouba deal might end up being a disaster as well. Not that he is a bad player, but not worth the contract
the rangers have an incredibly talented group. My concern with them if I’m a fan is will they give contracts to the right players. Also, can trouba prove he’s a legit number 1 D. If not, they may look to make a trade to get a true number 1. That is the most important position in today’s NHL.
That’s every rangers fans concern. DeAngelo just took a team friendly 2 year deal, so that was a step in the right direction. Georgiev signed for 2 more years at a reasonable price too. Now they are waiting on Strome and Lemieux, who aren’t the most talented guys, but will help bridge the gap till the young guys are cooking. Trouba will have this year and maybe next to prove he is that guy, if he’s not and DeAngelo and Fox are better, he’ll be traded. The Rangers have a top RD prospect in Sweden (Nils Lundkvist) that would hopefully be on the roster in 2 years to move into one of those RD roles. The real issue is who is the 2C after Mika? Strome? Chytil? Definitely not Howden. Some fans hope Kravtsov can be a C, others want to try Lafreniere there. This is the place where the Rangers need to deal some of their many prospects for a potential 2C or hope they can get one is FA, but then they’d be overpaying.
In a few years the Rangers will have like 23 mil tied up in three wingers. Now granted, that could be money in three of the top 10 wingers in the league, but that’s insane.
you could always see a trade. You would just have to hope that your trade of a stud winger for maybe a defenseman doesn’t work out as hilariously bad as it did for the Edmonton oilers.
I do too, but Chief clearly doesn’t understand the precarious position he’s putting Bowman in by asking some of these questions. Granted, I’m not defending what Bowman’s done. He hasn’t done a great job. But you’re basically begging him to admit that he doesn’t believe in the group he’s put together or that he didn’t try to put a contender on the ice this year. The reality is it’s impossible to ice a Stanley Cup contender every year in today’s NHL. But a GM admitting as much publicly - especially in a medium like Barstool Sports - is going to be a PR nightmare. He’s being asked to be brutally honest in this interview, when doing so puts his own job at risk with management. It’s a bad equation in today’s world.
then don’t do a media apology tour. Fucking wear it as a GM and don’t ask the media to soothe the fan base and make your job easier
