if you want to venture outside of Asheville by about 30 minutes, WIllie Brooks' BBQ is one of my favorite spots in Maggie Valley. can probably find good peanuts there too and a lot of good breakfast spots, bit more of a motel/roadside attraction town than Asheville proper. can also swing through Waynesville, NC, where there's a nice downtown and some good breweries like Frog Level & Boojum Brewing ...
sunny point the goat breakfast also it won't make you feel like shit for the rest the day the way basically anything on the biscuit head menu does getting old sucks boys
in WAVL, Tastee Diner is often overlooked, but also a fantastic breakfast and nice spot to eat outdoors with good weather ...
i usually end up there especially when traveling solo as Sunny Point is always slammed. unassuming spot and have to order at the counter, but the food has always been top notch and the patio a bit more relaxed IMO. not to say Sunny Point isn't the #1 breakfast spot in Asheville though
Heading there in 2 weeks. Got tickets for the outdoor Isbell show and secured a little Airbnb. Reservations for Curate done as well. Hard to beat Asheville in the fall
I was the first person at biscuit head this morning. Enjoyed breakfast out there. Went to wicked weed for beers and boiled peanuts. Then funkatorium. Burial. And one other spot. Back home now. It was hot in the sun. Rest and regroup. May try to get 12 Bones as soon as they open tomorrow.
Went to new Belgium last night. Unreal campus. Couldn’t believe how huge it was. Then grabbed pizza down the street. At sunny point now then hiking later.
Update: Sierra is NOT open. Curbside only. However they had a handy curbside menu ready and I was able to get a box of clothes and beer shoved directly into my trunk. I am now the owner of hop socks
Had 12 Bones yesterday after a little hidden hike off the blue ridge. Managed to snag some more boiled peanuts at a bar in west Asheville. Debating on taco billy or the biscuits and gravy from sunny point. I heard Hole for donuts was great.
Actually ended up going to Tastee instead. Yoga. Some beer from bottle shop. Finally took a little rest. Forgot to mention that I also caught sunset at grove park inn. Place was packed.
Let me ask my buddy. It wasn’t too far past the exit for mount Mitchell. Right hand side. There’s actually a little white gate for service vehicles that was closed. And it’s a little trail off to the right. only about 15-20 minutes. Decent incline, but great views. Nearly 360.
- Promised G we'd build a snowwwwwwwmmmmaaaaaaaan (if you've seen frozen, you get it) - Trip needs to be the week between Xmas and New Years - Not really excited about flying - So that leaves NC as probably my best shot at places I can drive to - Looking at the Boone area, Sugar Mtn and Beech Mth. %0/50 if they have snow but both seems ot make their own snow so I should at least be able to make a damn snowman - What's the best place to stay in that area? I saw a "4 Seasons" but quickly realized it's not a Four Seasons. - Preferably I'd like a small cabin to ourselves on the side of the mountain but idk if that's a thing there or not Thanks, y'all.
http://wolflaurelcommunity.com/ Just stayed at an air bnb here for my bday. I just chilled at the cabin admiring the leaves but all kinds of shit you can do including skiing. Would love to retired living there
What did you think of Tastee Diner? I'm glad to hear they are open still, wasn't sure if they'd make it this year ...
How crazy was the storm last night? Thinking about heading up there today but the powers out where we're going, trying to guesstimate out how long it'll take to get back online.
Ok boys. Heading to Hot Springs for week of Thanksgiving. Give me your must eat places around Asheville.
I'm assuming you know this, but it's a decent drive down to Asheville from there. Any type of food you particularly like or don't like? Casual or Nicer places? How do you feel about eating in restaurants during a pandemic?
Others can chime in but for me: BBQ: 12 Bones in River Arts District Tacos: Taco Billy Pub Style: Pack's, Foggy Mountain Breakfast: Taco Billy, Hole, Sunny Point, Biscuithead Latin: Salsa's, Nine Mile (Jamaican) Asian: Blue Dream Curry House, Itto Ramen Bar Fried Chicken: Rocky's Hot Chicken, Buxton Hall BBQ (Fried chx sandwich is unreal) Italian: Vinnie's That's a pretty good start, all fairly casual.
The GF and I did Red Ginger right in downtown based on some suggestions on here and from Tobias and it did not disappoint. It was delicious.
dont follow thread close enough to know the opinion of this place, but after a stop by Burial i ate at Luella’s on saturday. i enjoyed the brisket and hushpuppies. wanted brisket and buxton hall seemed to be your pulled pork fare.
I’ve never had the brisket there but heard from several folks that Luellas is the place for brisket. I’ll never get anything other than the fried chx sandwich at Buxton now that I’ve seen the light
100% agree on the fried chicken sandwich at Buxton Hall. I have wanted to try to other things on the menu, but will never say no to that sandwich.
never got their bbq in the years i lived in asheville just because i couldnt bring myself to pass on that sandwich god its so good
Think we’re going to try to do Asheville for the 4th. Last trip was late January 2020 right before everything shut down. It’s been too damn long.
Ate at Blue Dream for the first time in a while last night. Not sure why I waited so long...always so damn good chicken korma with level 4 spice
I could go for some Blue Dream on a rainy day like today. I think curry is the ultimate comfort food for me.
Their website makes it seem like reservations are needed. Is that the case or were you able to walk in like you could before covid?
I regularly find myself at Haywood Common. It’s always easy and above average. If it doesn’t work, we just go to Zia...which is the same.
did haywood lounge survive all this? their owner was such a nice guy who did EVERYTHING and they had great wings
