outdoor bike I understand the cage indoors I don’t get it. Outdoor it took me some time to get used clipping in and out almost bit it a few times. That danger isn’t there indoors.
Oh yeah I have friends use clips on mtn bikes for some reason. Guessing people don't want to bother with the cost of shoes
Peloton called with a Nov 30th delivery date. I asked them for something closer to Christmas, and they offered Dec 23rd (and were extremely thankful I was willing to take a later delivery, sounds like they're getting hammered)
The other aspect is just a convenience thing -- changing shoes to hop on/off the bike. I'm still guessing we'll spend the money on proper shoes, but I don't particularly see it as necessary. WSJ review kinda alludes to it in regards to bike+ and the hybrid workouts. https://www.wsj.com/articles/peloton-bike-review-rationalizing-a-2-495-exercise-bike-11603026000 I recently took a 30-minute boot-camp class taught by Robin Arzón. The class started with a seven-minute bike ride, then 13 minutes with dumbbells, and then back on the bike for 10. Twirling the screen toward my workout mat and weight bench made the process easier. The hardest part was what Ms. Arzón called a “Mr. Rogers’s shoe change”—the cumbersome process of unclipping your cycling shoes, then changing into sneakers, then doing the reverse, while increasingly exhausted.
So there is this amazing pause feature. Also I don't put on sneakers, I just do the weight part barefooted.
I use the Peloton shoes, but my mountain bike shoes have SPD style clips that are recessed into the shoe such that you can walk around easily in them. This might be an option for you down the road if you get tired of the baskets.
See, that’s the kinda insight that made me hold off on buying peloton shoes. That’s what we’re after, thanks!
I'm pretty new to the board (I have lurked for a while but this is actually my first post)but I have found this thread. I ordered a bike on 10/12 and the earliest delivery date was November 23. I got a call on Tuesday that my delivery was moved up and I actually got it yesterday. I don't even have the accessories that I purchased yet. XPO delivered it and said that I was very lucky because they have been hearing of delivery times out to 8 weeks. My roadbike shoes were SPD and I needed to order some 3-hole cleats. My wife's road shoes did not have a 3-hole plate so I was going to order her a new pair of shoes. I get the message and had to hop over to Amazon to order cleats and shoes. They are supposed to arrive later today. I was excited to get the bike in and took it for a quick spin in my tennis shoes yesterday and it was going good until I had to get out of the saddle. My foot slipped a little and I realized how dumb that was. So now I'm just waiting for Fedex to come.
Just the Bike. We have a room that we use to workout in with a TV and the auto tension adjust was not something that I thought we really needed.
I’ve done the bootcamp workouts and the ones I’ve taken the switching is not an issue. I’ve gotten plenty of time to switch shoes. It is also used as a recovery time. I am not judging everyone should do what they think will get them to workout more. Keep in mind you will lose power and when you do bootcamp workouts the shoe switching won’t be a huge deal.
These are the type of clipless I use for my outdoor cycling too. I also have hybrid clips on my bikes. That way if don’t feel like clipping in I can still ride with my regular shoes.
What should I look for on amazon? Do they refer to them as being recessed or? It's all pretty new to me. I'm just learning about the different SPD vs Delta stuff
Search “reversible dual sided clipless” peddles. They are exactly what they sound like. They have the clipless on one side and a platform on the other. https://www.hixmagazine.com/best-dual-platform-bike-pedals/
Peloton arrived today. Two questions off the bat: 1. Is their a free trial? I logged in with my account I created when bought it and it seems like I have access to classes. I haven’t been charged though. 2. My wife and I have never been on a spin big with clip in shoes. Does getting clipped in/our become easier? It was a giant pain in the ass tonight.
1. no they gave free access to the app a while back but not the regular /bike one. You just might not have gotten charged yet. 2. Like everything you become better with practice so yeah. Best way I heard it described once was think about putting out a cigarette on the ground with your toe. This is a perfect tutorial on how to clipout. Lol.
Just got done with ride #2. Big fan so far, especially since I can toss in quick rides at the end of weights.
I just dropped being on the keto lately, I am a former vegan and used to do CrossFit..this might be exactly what I need next
These are all lies by the way, except that I was training hard using some CrossFit principles but they are not CrossFit principles and just normal training. They just put a name on it
Holy shit, you are an enormous pussy. If unclipping/changing shoes while “increasingly exhausting” is worrying you, the actual workouts might kill you. I can’t wait to see the posts from you about how much your butt hurts and asking for recommendations for a softer seat like the rest of the ladies on the Peloton Facebook page do.
JFC dude. You’re generally a cool guy so I hope none of this is serious. Not sure why you appear to have an issue with him but honestly who cares what/how other people workout?
It’s about $600 more not being a big deal to me on an already overpriced bike and having something easy to hop on and off in between meetings. What the fuck is wrong with you, anyway? Seriously. I’d love to better understand why your such an insufferable fucking douche.
rulethirty and Boo MFer! can you two please not? Can you please take your squabbling to a different thread? Really don’t want to thread ban anyone.
Dude, I appreciate your insight, but the last time I came in here before the bike+ and asked about a swing arm, you were just as much of a weirdo about it. I’m all for joining the peloton cult, but this thread has been straight hostile and I can’t for the life of me understand why. As you said, who cares?
I honestly forget what I wrote. At the time I remember not understanding the need for it since I did all my none bike stuff on my iPad. I don’t hold on to stuff so like I said I honestly don’t remember our exchange. I still feel the same about the swivel. The bike plus is cool but none of the upgrades are something I need.
Hey, that's totally cool. That's why they segment the market with different products. But from my perspective some dude I don't know just called me a pussy for buying something that will let my wife keep her cross trainers on, and prior to that I had people giving me shit about putting a bike in our unused living room, and prior to that people telling me to buy another tv instead of putting the same exact money into a bike that solves it... And then the guy who gave me shit about asking about a third party swing arm threatens to ban me for asking why the guy calling me a pussy is a such a douche. You've got to admit, that's super fucking weird.
I just want to get the thread back on track. I didn’t want a back and forth which unfortunately it appears that’s what we got anyway. Again I don’t remember our exchange. You getting shit for where you put the bike and the cages is weird but I also thought it was harmless ball busting. So let’s start fresh and move on. I am not going to thread ban anyone I just wanted to stop the arguing before it got out of control. I’ll stop too before I do the exact thing I didn’t want. Have a good one and hope I can help if you need more assistance once your bike arrives or before.
Thanks for the help. I'll make sure to stop back by whenever I'm in the mood for randos calling me a pussy.
