nope, first year. It was a rocky first year to say the least.

Matt James also died a few months after Kelly took the job.

    93 things to say

1 — Okay, here we go! ND at …GI Joe 1988? What are those uniforms?

2 — 3rd-and-6 right away and Book bails them out with a twisting escape and dive to move the chains. Zero separation by the three visible Irish receivers—Mayer also encountered a safety over the top.

3 — It’s worth noting that when Brian Kelly told the announcing crew that Book needs to be more decisive and “fit a ball in there once in awhile” that Chip Long spent the 2019 spring season preaching the same.

I never pegged Book as the conservative type on short and mid-range throws back in 2018, but it’s unfortunately been a subplot since.

4 — The spittle collecting on Pat Narduzzi’s face shield is not a good advertisement for the product.

5 — Eichenberg beaten around the edge and Book is forced to scramble again, this time for minimal gain. Looked like 2018 for Liam on that snap who, incidentally, ranks as the nation’s second-best run-blocking tackle per Pro Football Focus, but somewhere in the 70s protecting the passer. (Banks is No. 1 nationally at guard in terms of the latter.)

6 — Michael Mayer’s second stiff-arm and broken tackle is appropriately followed by a stare down directly aimed at the tight end’s fallen prey.

7 — Outstanding pass protection this time, but it includes both Williams and Tremble aiding the cause, leaving the two receivers (that ran unremarkable routes), plus Brock Wright in the flat.

That can’t be a concept to return to against Clemson or Boston College (the Eagles have a decent pressure rate—better than Notre Dame’s, for reference.)

Strange drive right now as the offense gets its feet wet against Pittsburgh’s lone weapon, its defensive front.

8 — Tommy Tremble takes another soul in the run game. That dude has a screw loose out there, and I’m all for it. If Tremble returns in 2021…and we can assume Balis puts another 5-6 pounds on his frame = pure fury.

(Banks with a reaching hold negates the quality gain.)

9 — Book with another scramble on 1st-and-21 and I AM AMAZED that Tremble had the wherewithal to hold up and not kill the defender on an illegal crack back block. Traits!!

10 — 2nd-and-11 and freshman Ian Book finds redshirt-freshman Ben Skowronek for a 34-yard leaping catch and run for the score.

(Yes, I know, but I wanted you to be more excited for the play.)

High stab by Skowronek and some explosion in the open field. He might not have short-space burst, but Skowronek seems to be able to unleash it in the open field.

    7-0 Irish

11 — Crawford and Botelho get into it on the Pittsburgh sidelines after a solid kick return. I don’t think that’s going to be the last time for either of them. (Botelho has about 37 more such conversations coming his way…by 2021.)

12 — Is there a more boring form of offense than “the swing pass is an extension of the running game” BS?

13 — Third Down and Joey Yellen beats the blitz (and DJ Brown’s coverage) for an opening conversion. Decent defense by Brown but I’d rather not see that tactic in two weeks please and thank you.

14 — Ade with the bull rush, casts lineman aside, hits Yellen. One snap later, its Kurt Hinish with the punishing TFL.

Playing against bad offensive lines sure is fun. (That’s five in five games, if you’re scoring at home.)

15 — That’s the second time this season Shaun Crawford could’ve picked off—or at least attempted to pick off—a sideline pass dropped into bracket coverage over the top of the trailing corner.

The oddity here: He’s not a great hitter, but he has outstanding ball skills. I’m not sure why he’s taking that approach. Gain of 21, regardless.

16 — Yellen incomplete in traffic and DJ Brown will get credit for a pass breakup in which he should’ve intercepted it at full speed coming across the field.

I don’t like the Brown/Griffith matchups during November’s trio of contests.

17 — To be fair to both junior DBs, the Irish Nickel and Dime D is just utterly dominant against the decent and bad offenses they’ve faced to date. Bo Bauer and Clarence Lewis completely took away the underneath options on this 3rd-and-10 and the backline had it covered well.

Pitt settles for a field goal and 7-3 deficit midway through the first quarter

18 — Tommy Kraemer can line up and run block, man…and come to think of it, he should probably return next season unless he’s just ready to give his future profession a shot—but that’s not a high draft projection, right? Is he the type of guard that could really improve his stock with another year starting for a quality team?

19 — Deep shot to Lenzy who is wearing the cornerback like an inside-out jacket.

Actually upon replay that is clearly pass interference. Come on, man, it was a fistful of jersey in solo coverage.

20 — If Liam Eichenberg is flagged for a needless personal foul against Clemson costing this ‘needs-every-inch’ offense 15 yards, I’m going to explode…and I won’t be in the press box, so I really mean it this time. You’ll hear it all over Granger. Grow up 74!!

21 — Twitter’s overreaction to Brian Kelly ‘Giving up’ on this drive after a Tommy Rees 1st and 25 run call loses yardage is why I need to refrain from live event social media…but I already knew that.

How was Pittsburgh going to score if not with a short field? It’s okay to Punt once in awhile, guys.

22 — Twitter is kind of bad for sports. There, I said it.

23 — Drew White penetrates, Justin Ademilola cleans it up. What a day that kid had in relief of Ogundeji. Zero drop-off between them for the first time I can remember, especially against the run.

It’s Jayson A this time (and White) on the next snap, and then MTA with the third down sack. Which reminds me…

    22 — Pitt’s OL Stinks.

23 — Man, Salerno is electric back there…

24 — C’Bo on third-and-2 converts. He seemed fresher than Tyree on Saturday, to which I say, if Tyree has in any way hit the physical or mental rookie wall, give him some time off this week so he can possibly hit a crease and go 45 yards against Clemson.

C’Bo would probably have an extra mental edge playing Tech anyway…

25 — ND will have to punt as Book has to shift in the pocket just as Brock Wright breaks wide open on a deep cross. Not really Book’s fault here though it seemed like it if you just see the wide open white jersey on the screen. He had to shuffle left to avoid the pocket pressure.

26 — Just occurred to me ND is going to have to change their signals for BC week. Hopefully it won’t entail Book running over to the sidelines as if it’s 1977 a la Joey Yellen.

    What is that, Narduzzi?

27 — Shayne Simon looked like a football player on that coverage win out of the backfield…

28 — The oddity of Kyle Hamilton’s pass interference:

    • He didn’t need to grab the jersey to stay with the crosser. Step-for-step regardless
    • He also could’ve allowed the catch and easily made the tackle well before the sticks.

And he’ll probably never do it again after talking to Terry Joseph, so no big deal.

29 — The McDonough/Blackledge disdain for Pittsburgh’s hideous uniform choice is appropriate and necessary.

30 — Do you think Narduzzi just wonders what those guys in red hats, or guys holding big placards are doing on opposing sidelines, blissfully unaware there are now such things as signaling systems in High School, College, and Pro Football?

31 — Pittsburgh had TWO 1,000-yard rushers in 2018. What happened to this offensive line?

Hamilton is chatty out there and in a mean way. I’m enjoying a full two handfuls of Notre Dame’s attitudes this season and that total seems to be growing.

32 — Book with another long scramble, this time 18 yards as he set up a block by Kraemer in space. Just thought back to Athens last season and the final drive: that would’ve been an inspired time for the designed Book draw to the field side in an effort to put Georgia on its heels. (Midfield with two minutes left.)

    Oh well, back to reality.

33 — Book is sacked as Kyren Williams is engulfed by the blitzing linebacker, but Book should’ve been letting go of a mid-range crossing route over the middle just as his ‘back was impacted. (Pause your TV on the replay view.)

I feel like Book should excel at such things at this stage, but it’s now foolish to think it’s going to happen. We’re going to rely on his toughness, quick feet, clutch play, and some occasionally nice throws instead.

Not the crispest routes out there, either. A lot of bending, which I suppose is by design but I’m not down with that design.

34 — Book to Skowronek on 3rd-and-14 for a leaping downfield grab, stumble, and 50 yard sprint for a 73-yard score…just as we all predicted!! Holy Cow have yourself a day Big Ben!!

35 — I would Drop 8 against Book on 3rd-and-Long until he finds a way to beat it. (I assume Brent Venables might be hip to such tactics.)

    The Nard-Dog is not.

Skowronek 14, Pittsburgh 3 and Book took a shot on that touchdown toss

36 — That’s gotta be a great feeling for a player like Skowronek who is still (relatively speaking) trying to prove himself to new teammates.

37— Pittsburgh’s Wildcat formation surprisingly gains nothing over the right side. Seriously, stop recycling Mark Whipples. I can’t imagine being a Pittsburgh fan these days.

38 — Speaking of layups, Yellen is not a wonderful quarterback. Though he seems like a fine young man…

39 — Mark Whipple screaming into his soaking wet visor cannot be inspiring much confidence among his younger Panther pupils.

40 — 3rd-and-1 and Kyren Williams’ forward lean converts for a first down through an unblocked Damar Hamlin. That is absolutely a Run Stuff vs. most ‘backs. Williams have proven to be above most ‘backs.

41 — No Jet sweeps today so far? Must be something Pitt does well penetrating the edge?

42 — Book misses the throw on his first read, a corner route to a decently covered, Mayer but that type of pass completion would take this offense to higher ground. Lenzy was solo right with no safety help, but this one was going to Mayer all the way. (No idea if Lenzy was open deep).

43 — 3rd-and-12 is high off of Lenzy’s hands on the drag route. Blocking was set up downfield, too, but I don’t think Lenzy would’ve shaken his cover man to make it the full dozen.

    Punt.

44 — Bo Bauer with the 3rd Down Interception. I don’t know if you realize how crazy that sentence would’ve been deemed at this point last season! What a job by the junior linebacker who’s carved enough of a niche now to play his entire career in South Bend AND can play two more seasons.

A true success story for what seems like a top tier team guy and blossoming player as a junior.

45 — I can’t tell if JOK has the nerdiest of all celebration runs alongside Bauer, or if he’s just so excited he can’t contain himself, but I applaud it either way.

Also, Yellen is um…not a problem for opposing defenses.

46 — Fun fact: Bo Bauer wanted to play baseball at ND, too, but Brian VanGorder said no.

47 — Backfield wheel route to Williams gains 20 after a few stop-and-start jukes. Book kind of babied it in there and Williams had to fully stop to catch it running up the seam.

A fake Jet to Avery Davis to the same side (boundary) set that pass up to a wide open Williams to slip out undetected.

48 — Book is quick, man. He’s going to need 15 carries for 65 yards vs. Clemson though. Maybe vs. UNC, too. That’s game’s going to get a little bit loose down in Chapel Hill…

49 — Ian Book for a 3rd-and-1 sneak and the Irish are now 3-for-3 in third-and-short situations, this one to the Panthers 15-yard line.

50 — I don’t see how those face shields are more convenient than masks? Especially with a headset and glasses.

51 — It’s possible Tremble is more chippy than Chase Claypool was. Actually, who am I kidding. Tremble probably has to turn down a dozen fights a game the way he plays. Claypool was always ready to scrap at the slightest indignity.

52 — We could’ve had a Book to Wilkins corner-route touchdown on 2nd-and-9, but Mayer took his flat route a little too deep and Panthers DB Jason Pinnock makes a helluva read, leaving his assignment (Mayer) to make a play on the ball. Book probably needs to sell the Mayer option with his eyes before releasing that corner route though.

53 — Javon McKinley draws pass interference and the Irish gain possession at the 2-yard line as a result. You know what that means! Four Tight Ends! Touchdown Kyren Williams.

Line ‘Em Up. Move ‘Em Out.

54 — Three great aspects of this run: Tommy Kraemer pulling with ferocity…Wright and Takacs double-teaming the left end six yards into the end zone…and Kyren Williams deciding he needed contact when he could’ve scored without it.

I wonder what Takacs Plays to Touchdown Percentage is? You figure he’s been in on 8 scores so far…probably 17% of his snaps are touchdowns?

    21-3 Irish

55 — Drew White and Hinish talking some serious ish to Vincent Davis. I’m guessing something along the lines of ‘Your rush efficiency is less than 13 percent, Ha!”

56 — Pittsburgh’s main goal on this drive—getting the play in from the sideline via the spittle-ridden but indiscernible whisper—is realized. However, a fourth down timeout by Notre Dame with 20 seconds remaining foils the master plan, as Isaiah Foskey comes untouched off the left side for a smacked punt and eventual recovery in the end zone.

That’s 8 games played with two blocked punts by Notre Dame’s future sacks leader.

    That’s also the ball game.

57 — Punt Returner Matt Salerno is the fourth player to greet Foskey in celebration after the score. Now those are the Traits I’m looking for!!

28-3 Irish heading into the break

58 — Simon on the spot in coverage again, but can’t quite defend/get a hand on the Yellen pass that sails out of bounds. Right now he’s just executing the assignment, running to the spot without really understanding why or how the opponent might attack.

That would’ve been a nice play, aka “assignment correct,” in the opener, but the Irish need to Buck to be further along at this point.

59 — Boy Crawford REALLY squatted on that route. Easy TD if Yellen wasn’t spooked and awful by this point. Punt. (Hurry by JOK, FYI)

60 — I assume Lea is not going to tandem blitz JOK and Hamilton nearly as often against Trevor Lawrence. You need some athleticism at the second level too, right?

61 — I enjoyed Todd McShay in the sideline role. Having a scout down there, whether you like him or not, is valuable in a broadcast. One reporter (Molly McGrath), one scout. I like the concept.

62 — Aaron Banks the only player leaving the field after a third down conversion moves the chains. BK is as confused as I am watching it.

63 — Javon McKinley’s footwork is uh, not clinical, on the sidelines. Let’s just say he hasn’t watched his Cris Carter highlight tapes of late.

64 — Mayer on 3rd-and-10 with a beauty for 12 yards. This offense would be LIGHTS OUT with one weapon at wide receiver. And I’m taking senior year TJ Jones level, not even Floyd or Fuller or Claypool.

65 — Delayed toss to Jafar Armstrong. Kind of reminds me of…

66 — I need a ruling on McKinley’s 41-yard catch-and-run: A ‘Loaf’ followed by a fortunate playmaking explosion? Or an obstinate, uninspired, adherence to the play call that happened to work out?

Either way: Tommy Kraemer and Jarrett Patterson with a quality efforts downfield and McKinley showed some serious acceleration late. Would’ve been a cool highlight to his career had he plowed into the end zone.

67 — I’m digging these goal-to-go huddles! It’s like 1987 all over again, especially with Narduzzi and Whipple having their QB come to the sideline for the play-call. Book even resembles Terry Andrysiak!!

Unfortunately, he occasionally throw likes him, and I’m not sure how that happened after watching the 2018 season unfold.

Irish settle for a field goal and 31-3 lead on a wholly ineffectual goal-to-go series. McKinley too often makes himself easy to guard in the red zone…

68 — Another Defensive Stuff. Justin Ademilola has had a heckuva day.

I don’t believe Todd Blackledge is necessarily off-base saying this, but if Notre Dame holds Clemson to 21-24 points, do you think the word “Solid” will no longer be automatically affixed to “Notre Dame Defense”? Isn’t it more than “Solid”?

69 — I don’t mean to speak ill of Yellen, but lofting a pass between JOK and Hamilton at this point in the contest seems self-defeating.

Interception by the former. What a player! What a late signee!!

Always remember, whenever we’re wrong, Prister and I had JOK ranked #4 and #3, respectively, in that 2017 class.

(You know, ‘cause we had Darnell Ewell ahead of him…)

70 — I just deleted something disparaging I wrote about Yellen because of Sean McDonough’s sad story about his personal life. Kind of ruins the fun of this column…

71 — McShay compares JOK to Patrick Willis (Hall of Fame) and Roquan Smith (ND Killer circa 2017). Is there any reason we can conceivably convince Wu to hang out in South Bend one more year?

72 — I know this nugget from 2013 early-game warm-ups: Stephon Tuitt and Sheldon Day were much better pure passers than is Kyren Williams. Yikes. Pass interference anyway against Tremble but that was an impossibly poor throw by the early-season Irish MVP.

73 — You know who else throws poorly for a former great skill position football player? My old neighbor Tony Alford. Sorry, coach!

74 — Mayer Elevates. Get some. That’s just not fair. Get used to it. Touchdown Irish.

38-3 but Book was inexplicably late on that throw. That’s not how its drawn up.

75 — I am positive that Jordan Botelho is one of the last three guys on this football team you’d want to cross at 2am…

76 — INT Nick McCloud, and the NC State grad is about two quality games away from surpassing Cody Riggs as the best graduate transfer in Notre Dame Football history…pending Skowronek.

    (Gilman was standard transfer)

    77 — Man, Shaun Crawford is one trash-talking Boomer…

78 — “Every time we try to tell a story about Joey Yellen he throws an interception and comes off the field.” Yikes, McDonough! (He should write an occasionally sarcastic weekly film review.)

79 — Todd McShay notes that Notre Dame might have the best defense among Clemson, Bama, and the Irish, but that the passing attack is the difference. I’m glad someone that’s seen them all live can say that. Gives me hope.

Also…it’s impossible to play defense, at this level, against the following gauntlet to win a title: Clemson, Clemson, Alabama, and Clemson/Ohio State in a four-game series, which is what ND will have to do. (Though they could lose one of those first two Clemson matchups…still have to win two more after that against the trio of elite.)

80 — C’Bo with a TD. But that was probably an Aaron Banks, Liam Eichenberg, Jarrett Patterson, Robert Hainsey, and Brock Wright TD, in reality—With some backside Kraemer and double-team Mayer thrown in.

    45-3 Irish

81 — You can tell the OL loves C’Bo…

82 — Alright, final thought on this topic, but it’s a good thing Jordan Botelho wasn’t the teammate in question when Jimmy Clausen walked out of CJ’s Pub with a shiner in late-November 2009.

83 — Notre Dame’s backup DL is better than Pitt’s starting OL. This is embarrassing, though it makes me happy that Tyler Palko is cursing somewhere in his living room…

84 — Okay, it’s substitution time! (So there will be fewer things to say…he said hopefully).

I just saw #13 and had no idea who it was. It’s Lawrence Keys…I was thinking Genmark Heath circa 2017. That’s not a great sign for the junior slot receiver.

Also a sign of senility, but I digress…

85 — The most impressive thing about this fourth quarter is how well-schooled and focused ClarkLea’s #2s and #3s are, up by 38 on the road in front of basically no one.

86 — The silver lining in not having a true starting Buck is that your third and fourth string Bucks are comparatively damn good in blowouts…

87 — Redshirt-freshman OL Quinn Carroll makes his Notre Dame debut and it’s at right tackle. (Kristofic, Gibbons, Correll, Dirksen, Carroll). He’s high on the list of happy guys that 2020 does not count against anyone’s eligibility. Career-reset coming for Carroll starting next February.

88 — Isaiah Pryor looks pretty good in this Rover role. Like a Big 10 athlete or something. And I’m about to talk to him in 38 minutes, if you must know! (Postscript: Good interview. I’m rooting for him to make an impact next year at Rover and this year to continue it on Special Teams.)

    89 — Irish take over with 7:49 remaining… Handoff to #8…Reminds me of…

90 — Braden Lenzy. Hamstring. Out for Clemson, for all intents and purposes, BC. Back by Thanksgiving Friday? We simply cannot have nice things…

“That hurts. He’s their one speed guy…” Todd McShay’s truth is what really hurts…

    2COMMENTS
91 — C’Bo Flemister has no use for your ‘star system’ 247Sports!! FIRST DOWWWWWWWN!!!!!

92 — Notre Dame wins a game 45-3 but loses its two speed weapons that were purportedly necessary to contend with Clemson. I’m conflicted. It’ll be the Spirt of 1993 vs. 2020 on the field Saturday, Nov. 7, in South Bend.

You don't hear about it until they get there for good programs and then they "run stairs" as punishment and miss a quarter.

    recruiting scoop

Notre Dame’s 2021 class is currently ranked No. 11 in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. There are 19 commits set to play for the Fighting Irish and there are a few spots left.

Let’s take a look at where things stand with the prospects remaining on the board for Notre Dame this cycle.

    SLIDE1 of 9
    FOUR-STAR RUNNING BACK DONOVAN EDWARDS
Notre Dame looks to be trending down with elite running back Donovan Edwards. Michigan remains the team to beat according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but there are other heavy-hitters in play including Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State and Oklahoma. Edwards is currently focused on his final season rather than recruiting, so look for things to really ramp up after the playoffs are concluded. He recently stated that he plans on going to Michigan, Georgia and Alabama for game day visits on his own, but that was it for now. If that is the case, it’s not great for the Fighting Irish.

    SLIDE2 of 9
    FOUR-STAR CORNERBACK CEYAIR WRIGHT
Notre Dame is definitely involved with Top100, four-star cornerback Ceyair Wright, but there are a few that are likely in better position as of today. Most believe the top contenders in this race include the Fighting Irish, USC, Stanford, Oregon and Michigan. However, most expect him to remain on the west coast at either USC or Stanford. Notre Dame is doing all it can to push the right buttons, but seem to be on the bottom half of the Top 5. That said, there is likely plenty of time left to charge before he makes a decision.

    SLIDE3 of 9
    FOUR-STAR ATHLETE TITUS MOKIAO-ATIMALALA
Nothing has really changed all that much regarding the recruitment of four-star, two-way standout Titus Mokiao-Atimalala. The pulse has always been that Notre Dame, USC and UCLA are probably the top three contenders, with Arizona State, Cal, Maryland and Michigan. However, I genuinely believe this comes down to position preference. The Fighting Irish staff believes he has ridiculous upside at safety and feels he can be molded into an elite talent at the position. That said, he seems to be gravitating toward playing receiver. If that’s the case, I would expect him to stay out west and likely land with the Trojans or Bruins when all is said and done.

    SLIDE4 of 9
    THREE-STAR CORNERBACK THERAN JOHNSON
Notre Dame turned up the heat with three-star cornerback and Northwestern commit Theran Johnson back in September. The Irish offered and were hopeful that the in-state talent would prefer to land with the Fighting Irish over the Wildcats. Notre Dame likely offered following information that the offer would be a game-changer. My feeling is they were given some poor information because Johnson has been locked in with Northwestern and doesn’t look to be wavering on his initial decision at all. From what I’ve gathered, Notre Dame has moved on from trying to flip him, so don’t look for him to be mentioned beyond this.

    SLIDE5 of 9
    THREE-STAR LINEBACKER KAHANU KIA
Notre Dame will host three-star linebacker Kahanu Kia next weekend when Clemson comes to town on Nov. 7. Although the Hawaiian won’t be able to attend the game, he’ll get his first look at the school, campus, and surrounding area. The fact of the matter is this one will come down to fit and relationships. Notre Dame feels great about its chances to land him and I’m starting to think the Irish could quickly become the team to beat after he visits South Bend. That said, Utah, UCLA and Stanford are all in play as well.

    SLIDE6 of 9
    FOUR-STAR OFFENSIVE TACKLE CALEB JOHNSON
As we said when four-star offensive tackle Caleb Johnson first committed to Auburn back in May, Notre Dame wasn’t going to give up on this one all that quickly. The Fighting Irish staff have been in touch with Johnson and his family and are looking to flip him from the Tigers. As long as he keeps the dialogue open, Notre Dame will make a run at him. As we’ve said, the Irish staff are working hard to get him on board. It seems some closest to him are more comfortable with the school and program than he is, but he’s still listening to what Notre Dame has to say.

    SLIDE7 of 9
    THREE-STAR CORNERBACK KHALIL ANDERSON
Notre Dame continues to evaluate three-star cornerback Khalil Anderson. The next offer at the position could be to the Pittsburgh commit. The staff loves his athleticism, two-way ability, and upside in the secondary. Anderson remains locked in with Pittsburgh, but the staff feels they could flip him if everything works out. In all honesty, I think there is only one other cornerback they are still recruiting harder to this point, but he’s also committed elsewhere.

    SLIDE8 of 9
    FOUR-STAR CORNERBACK PHILIP RILEY
That cornerback they are still recruiting is four-star cornerback Philip Riley, the former Notre Dame pledge who flipped to the USC Trojans. Notre Dame is still in communication with Riley and the staff is trying to get him back on board. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess to where things end up come Signing Day, but the Irish aren’t ready to wave the white flag and are working to get him back in the class for a second time.

    SLIDE9 of 9
    THREE-STAR CORNERBACK JORDAN OLADOKUN
    11COMMENTS
The former Iowa commit is back on the market, but I don’t see Notre Dame making a run at three-star cornerback Jordan Oladokun much longer. In fact, we feel good about saying that we’ll likely not have to mention him anymore beyond today, barring a change of heart from the staff. It seems, at least as of right now, Notre Dame is talking to Anderson and Riley and the staff is hopeful that one of them lands in the class with the Fighting Irish.

That makes a ton of sense, two weakest position on this team recruiting wise and players returning.

I still find Narduzzi's comments more self serving that anything else. After getting absolutely humiliated in all 3 phases of the game he is going to act like he played against prime Tom Brady Patriots.

Yeah, let’s calm down a bit here. Nd has faced a shitty schedule, let’s not get too hyped up yet.

It also doesn’t mean Nd is not a very good team right now. Like always there will be a couple of pieces missing. Qb and wr play can’t compete with the elite teams.

    that’s recruiting

Crazy hypothetical time. ACC Championship game.

“The title game participants will be the two teams with the highest win percentage in conference games. There will be only one division.“

Let’s just say ND loses to Clemson and runs the table. Miami (only loss then to Clemson) wins out. I couldn’t find any tie breaker after highest win percentage in conference. ND won’t play Miami so there is no head to head. Someone tell me how ND doesn’t get screwed in this scenario so I can go to sleep.

Edit found this. That would be a crazy scenario to have to figure out. https://theacc.com/sports/2020/9/23/FB_0923200510.aspx

It sounds like in the scenario we both go 9-1 with a loss to Clemson, we'd go to to #5 on this list. You have to pay a shit ton of money to get access to their stats (I might be wrong?) but the computers like us a lot so far this year, so I think we'd be fine:

    Congrove #5 - https://www.collegefootballpoll.com/rankings/
    Massey #5 - https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm
    FPI #7 - https://www.espn.com/college-football/fpi
    Sagarin #4 - http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm

    1. Combined head-to-head win percentage among the tied teams.
    2. Head-to-head competition versus the team within the conference with the best overall conference win percentage and proceeding through the conference. Multiple ties within the conference will be broken first to last, using the league’s tiebreaker policies.
    3. Combined win percentage versus all common conference opponents.
    4. Win percentage versus common conference opponents based upon their order of finish (overall conference win percentage) and proceeding through other common conference opponents based upon their conference order of finish.
    5. The tied team with the higher ranking by the Team Rating Score metric provided by SportSource Analytics following the conclusion of regular season games.

Clearly so much can happen between now and then. I appreciate the reply was thinking along the same. It would be comical to get to #6 and not get picked and go back to being an independent.

Miami plays UNC so this could make a lot of that moot if UNC wins then ND beats UNC.

Agreed. Definitely good that FSU beat North Carolina since NC didn’t have to play Clemson. Also crazy to see that NC State got the lucky draw and didn’t have ND or Clemson in their schedule this year.

for sure. Beat UNC and most likely there is no issue.

The most fun scenario would be when we would somehow beat clemson. Wont happen but still. At that point it would almost be worth to just throw the UNC game to avoid playing Clemson a second time. Thing that ruins it is that they play Miami the weak after they play us

Now that I am a fan of a conference team I can finally say that conference championship games make this sport worse and no one can call me a hypocrite or whatever.
